Emerging from an undergroundprison was only the beginning to finding freedom.
Edith and Benjamin have longed for the fresh air and independence of the Above, but now that they’ve reached it, they discover a world where the women’s rights movement never occurred and the 19th amendment doesn’t exist.
Vivian, a conspiracy theorist who has a strong online following, has tried to warn the public of the Elite and the secret underground society buried beneath Cades Cove, part of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park in Tennessee. Along with her team and a surprising co-leader, she strives to rescue those who are trapped underground.
The new sights and sounds of the Above are overwhelming to the couple’s senses, not to mention the complex system of technology and advanced inventions they discover. To Edith and Benjamin, they’ve jumped over two hundred years into the future to find a world that doesn’t match the history lessons they received as children.
As more truths bubble to the surface, Edith struggles to come to terms with her new reality while also planning a rescue mission for those left behind in The Below.
Meanwhile, Frances remains in the Buried Reserve with her secret lover. Betrothed to an Oliver against her will, she is in a race against time to uncover the hidden pasts of the Olivers and use the intel to her advantage.
Can the rescue team reach the Below before more eliminations take place?
Do the citizens of The Buried Reserve want to be saved?
In a suspenseful sequel to “Below”, Sarah Seaton Myers takes her readers on a journey into a re-imagined history in this dystopian fiction, set in the mountains of East Tennessee.
When I first began to read the book. I was intrigued by the book summary, as I made it halfway through "Above", not only was I spellbound by the unique twists and take on a dystopia world happening in a time frame that will first shock then capture the readers attention, but Sarah Myers has created a new dystopian tale I could picture as a Netflix series.
The characters are unique, and there is a slight steampunk vibe to the story. The setting is both captivating and believable given the unique grasp both in geography and incorporating familiar terrain, Meyers easily world builds a story that left me binging both books. I couldn't put them down, nor was I wanting to due to seeing if some of the theories I had of what might happen would happen .
Meyers creates a fresh take to the dystopian genre, and one which draws the reader in with conversational dialogue, which comes across as casual and believable, believable world building, and use of suspense which easily draws the reader in to the story.
Still recommend this series! More like 2.75 soooo close to 3 but I just can’t give it that.
Was really excited for this series due to it being the setting of Cade Cove, the National Park on the edge of my hometown, Townsend, TN. I love the overall concept of the story but feel like it had the potential to be a 5 star read with a few more rounds of edits and maybe another handful of hours. All three books in the series are around 4 hours. Maybe I just like big books with lots detail but even just 2 more hours and I think it would have been better!
Love the dystopian concept of a hidden world under one of the most visited National Parks. This feels like it could be a real life thing that’s only being joked about in fiction! It was published in 2023, so the epilogue at the end makes it even realer- talking about how Cades Cove now has parking passes, which is a new real life park feature only happening in recent years… that had me questioning if this story was fact or fiction!!
In the story of “Below” the two escapees form an alliance with others who are aware of the underground civilization and the government mining and misinformation. They join forces to make plans for those “Below” to escape. It is not easy, and the story continues with some of the characters from the first novel being even more involved in the government's plans for “Below” and those who live there planning their own escape. Sarah Myers does a good job of continuing the plot of the first novel and this one is just as entertaining as the last one. She goes back in time occasionally to explain how the civilization living below Cades Cove began and how it continued. If you read “Above” and liked it you will enjoy “Below”.
Loved the Above, wrapped up well in the Epilogue although there is scope for more stories to be told from Ediths' best friend Frances and Edith's brothers' perspective.
The concept of these 2 books - Below followed by Above is unique. It looks at what might have happened if something happened in the past and how the ripples and consequences of that might play out. The Below is dystopian whereas the Above, life is very similar to the present day except the conspiracy.
Above is really enjoyable, it is all set in the present but in two locations Above and Below.
No spoilers but if you can you will want to read both books back to back to really appreciate them.
I am enjoying this series. It's an incredibly unique concept that is quite intriguing. I really enjoyed the strong female characters leading the charge. I also think the men are also great characters.
This is the second book in the series. My opinion is it can not be read as a standalone.
I definitely recommend this clean novel. I have Beyond on my Amazon list! Can't wait! ❤
I loved it. So captivating and interesting from the first page. I love good clean adventure books of this nature. I can’t wait for the next one! Great read!
