FROM THE AUTHOR OF THE FAST-PACED AVENGING ANGELS SERIES COMES A NEW KIND OF WESTERN HERO.
Fourteen-year-old Connor Mack dreams of a life full of adventure—while he’s stuck plowing, doing chores, and being worked to death on a half barren family spread in East Texas. He plans to one day flee the beatings delivered by his hulking older brothers and lazy pa. But he knows when he does, he has to take his twin sister, Abby, with him.
Connor gets his chance when River Hicks, a man wanted for the murder of a policeman in Fort Worth, rides into town with a pack of bounty hunters on his trail. As the gun smoke clears, and Connor has killed men for the first time in his life, he knows this is his and Abby’s time to escape their life of abuse.
Knowing the law will soon be on their heels, they follow Hicks—an outlaw driven by his own demons and deep secrets, which somehow involve the Mack twins.
Conner has a lot of learning and growing up to do…and he has to stay alive to do it.
Read along across nine action-packed books as odds are defied, relentless dangers are faced, and treacherous journeys of self-discovery are navigated in an attempt to carve out a life of freedom in several gripping tales.

II stopped reading at chapter 34. The author portrays young mac in a way I find distasteful .His sister has it all over her brother in common sense and general knowledge and she is the one quick to pick up on things around her. I was with special operations forn12 years in the Army and if you didn't have situational.awareness 100 % of the time you would eventually get killed . mack does not have a clue but hates it when he is corrected but he obviously gets tied up in things when he has no idea what's happening . The Author has already written death to folks tied into.Maxcks.mistakes so I decided to stay away from . mack.will.probably become.a.Gunslinger at some point but how many people will die because of his stupidity and total.lack of understanding human nature before he has a clue of what is happening in life.
Great storytelling, but it needs work from a good editor...
I loved the story. Fun, lots of action, some intrigue. What you expect from Mr. Hart. I'm going to let myself believe that this is some of his early work, and that the stories didn't start out to be a series. There are a fair number of timeline errors between the separate books, as well as general historical errors. (I'm a native Texan, who grew up in and around Beaumont.) All-in-all, this is a series that I can recommend, but it would be better with a bit of rewrite thrown in.
Very much enjoyed reading this series. The author didn't have to resort to sleeze or filthy language to keep the readers attention. Just an excellent storyline with top notch writing. I will certainly be looking at Mr. Hart's other literary offerings. PS I'm a former Marine and have lived a lot of color. Just believe the Best Authors should be able to entertain me and my grandson with good English that's not offensive to us, or his Mother.
Great set of books...however first one was too long, should be made into two books. Second book was a rea.l disappointment and I would have stopped the series but after that the rest of the series were some great reading!! Will be reading more of this author's books. Truly great books!!
I enjoyed the 1st book the second turned in To file language which I don't tolerate if an author Can't use the English language to benefit himself and the reader then he's not worth reading the book Audios and goodbye
This may be the best western series i have read. It has a great hero in River Hicks. If like me you love reading a good western, then get this series, you won’t be disappointed.

Props to the authors for invoking several classic Golden Age tv western series. The obvious are Palladin, wanted dead or alive, gunsmoke, and wells fargo. You'll find several others. The down side is the editing, grammar, and syntax are bad enough to be intrusive. Some commas wouldn't hurt.
When I read westerns, I don't have a thesaurus nearby. This author seems to like to show his knowledge of words, even though some of his are erroneously used. I really doubt that many in this time used the million-dollar words in the first place. Words written correctly are also not the way people of that time and place would pronounce them, ie. bantam; it would have been pronounced as banty and braham would have been pronounced as bramer. I have done reviews and editing for many years and, again, I prefer to read a book without having a dictionary or thesaurus.
