I’ve always known where I stood with Elliot Decker: enemies. Until one day, a brush with danger brings us closer, forcing us to confront our long term rivalry. As we realize that our animosity hid our true feelings, we recognized the time we wasted hating each other. We find ourselves falling fast and hard in love.
Falling in love with Madeline Hart saved my life. After years building a life together, Madeline has a tragic accident and loses her memories. She doesn’t remember the man that she loves but the boy she always hated. She fell in love with me once, can she do it again?
This debut was an emotionally beautiful love story.
Mads and Elliot touched my heart. They weren’t soulmates but they were absolutely meant to be together. They had a rough start but later they clicked together as two pieces of a puzzle. Their bond was so heartwarming that led to a great and meaningful relationship. One of a kind. I was under the spell of their love and the only thing I did was root for them.
While I loved both main characters, Elliot was the star of this story. His background was very heartbreaking and it was the reason for his attitude and closed off personality. His character growth hold my attention and I was amazed.
Elliot and Mads went through wonderful times but also difficult ones. Yet, their love was still there, the hope, the strength, the faith, the support.
I appreciated the depth of characters and plot development, and moreover the lack of steamy scenes that would have compromised the story’s tone. The alternations between past and present were very well executed.
I understood that the author wanted to establish their deep love for each other, but it was a little too much for me to read their exchange of "I love you" more than 50 times. Also, there were a few repetitions that could have been left out.
I wish the epilogue would have been longer and not a slight glimpse of several years later. I just wanted mooooore!!!!!
Wonderful cover, wonderful title, for a wonderful love story!
ARC REVIEW: ‘Til You Came Along by Lorissa Padilla ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
I don’t know who I pleased to be getting so many AMAZING ARC reads lately, but I am loving it! ‘Til You Came Along is another one jumping to the top of my list.
Elliot and Mads are amazing- their chemistry, communication, healing journeys, and love is top notch. Also, what is it with amazing book boyfriends named Elliot?? SOLD.
TYCA is written in dual POV, dual timeline (my favorites!!) with Elliot having the current POV and Madeline having the past.
Okay so LITERALLY only one book has ever made me cry (on a plane no less) but this had me honest to god tearing up at some of Elliot’s broken scenes. I just wanted to wrap him up in a hug and never let go.
Included tropes: 📖 rivals/enemies to lovers 📖second chance romance 📖grumpy/sunshine 📖he falls first (!!!) 📖marriage in crisis 📖dual POV 📖dual timelines 📖closed door 📖book boyfriends named Elliot (okay not a real trope but I’m making it a thing!)
TYCA is @lorissapadillawrites debut novel, available for purchase and on KU April 18th- add to your TBR now!
The blurb sounds cosy. I like the cover. I didn't know the author is a book cover designer herself! The forget-me-not flowers on the cover are a nice fit, going by both their literal meaning and their significance in the story.
Two chapters in, it gets better, and you're in for a ride. The chapters alternately toggle between the past and present, which is tricky to pull off, but the author does so with elan. The writing throughout is very good. It's a closed-door romance. This is the first book I've read that has a short epilogue, and I'm satisfied. I'm eager to read more from her in the future. This is a very strong 2023 debut.
While it's a dual POV book, Elliot is more of a star than Madeline. He's impatient and lacks empathy. He's codependent on Madeline. It's frustrating to read his POV when she loses her memories. The book also lightly touches upon the subject of gun violence in the United States. The majority of this book deals with grief, like the grief of coming from an abusive family, the grief of losing your memories, and the grief of your spouse forgetting you. I love the way the scene when he comes back to Madeline after being off the grid for two days is written.
I found this book endearing. It's definitely emotional, with both of the main characters crying at several moments. If you've watched the movie The Vow, you'll like it.
I received an e-ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
THIS BOOK !!!!!! I was captivated from page 1. The love between all the characters is so wholesome and heart-warming. I’m a sucker for alternating timelines and I loved the way Elliot and Mads’ story was intertwined over the years. Lorissa is a phenomenal author and I can’t wait to read everything she writes!! I’m so thankful I got to read an ARC of this- I will be buying a physical copy immediately!!
Til You Came Along will be available for purchase on April 18 for paperback & Ebook. It will also be available on Kindle Unlimited.
This book took me a hot second to finish due to the consequences of my own actions, but I am so glad I finally just forced myself to sit down and finish.
I absolutely adored this book and felt like it was such a great take on the amnesia trope which I already don’t see often. The emotions were raw and real. I think this was a stunning debut novel.
There were times I wanted things fleshed out more, like the MMC’s past, or maybe what holidays were like for them. And I felt like the author used ellipses wayyyyy too much, but that’s a personal problem on my end - LOL!
I will absolutely be continuing to read this authors books and seeing what’s next. I am wholeheartedly attached to her story telling now and need to keep going.
3.5 rounding up!
No spice, so don’t come for me if you see this review and read it and get mad there’s no spice. It’s beautifully done and I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way on that front!
This is most likely my top book of 2023. Lorissa's debut is absolutely stunning, beautifully written and is packed with all the feels.
The past - we hear from Madeline, and how she quickly fell in love with Elliot Decker. We know Elliot and why he is the way he is - how much he grows. You fall for Elliot just like Madeline does, hard and fast.
The present - we hear from Elliot, and how the love of his life is hurt, and wakes up with no memory of him. From him - we see them fall in love all over again. Be warned....I cried. His emotions could be felt through the pages and I just felt for him - when his happiness slowly started coming back, my heart grew.
I loved this book so much. It was heartbreaking and inspiring all at the same time, the dual time lines meeting in the middle. Beautifully written and perfect in every way. Elliot and Maddies love story is one that needs to be told, the love that stands trials and lasts - no matter what.
I was so honored to read this book and will never not recommend it to everyone. I can't wait to have a copy for my shelf - this is one you won't want to miss.
I loved this book! So sweet! How lucky are they to have found each other and her fall in love with him not once but twice ❤️ Mads and Elliot are perfect! Their story gave me butterflies! Excellent Debut Novel!

This was such a sweet story. I loved the dual POV portrayed in the past and the present, it was the perfect way to really help the reader dive deep into Elliot and Madeline’s relationship. I didn’t realize just how much I enjoy reading second chance romances until this book. 🥺
My favorite dynamic here was the fact that Elliot was obviously the grump, but also crazy about Madeline at the same time. I love the very real conversations the two have together, the dialogue felt so genuine which only reeled me into their relationship even more. Grumpy/sunshine and enemies to lovers are my two favorite tropes, and this book has its own spin on them which I really enjoyed.
If you like: — grumpy/sunshine — second chance romance — grumpy MMC who is actually a cinnamon roll MMC — enemies to lovers… to strangers
I highly recommend reading this book. It’ll be available for purchase and on KU on April 18th! 🤍
Told in a dual timeline and Dual POV, ‘Til You Came Along tells the gripping story of what happens when a love built from the ground up faces the toughest challenge imaginable, and if it’s strong enough to last when every single odd it stacked against it.
Mads and Elliot’s relationship was forged in the fire of high school hate, a hard past, and forgiveness. The trust these two have in each other is enough to bring tears to yours eyes. It was incredible to watch them grow as individuals and then strengthen each other as a couple. It is equally heartbreaking watching them fight for every bit of that back inch by hard-won inch.
This book will make you feel all of the feelings. It will make you fall in love, it will leave you in tears. Every hopeless moment is met equally with hope and love. I love both of these characters so much, it made my chest ache when they were hurting, and I cried for their losses and victories.
It also holds one of the best friendships I’ve ever seen in a romance novel, and I hope we get to see certain characters explored more in the future.
Simply and truly put, this book is absolutely stunning. The dual timeline is done seamlessly and leaves you wanting more with every page, having both perspectives during this journey worked so indescribably well. It was absolutely impossible not to root for these two from the very first page. Every single person who wants a relationship with someone else should read this book. Lorissa Padilla is an incredible debut author and I absolutely cannot wait to get my hands on more of her writing.
I soooo wanted to LOVE this book but it fell a little flat for me. I love the premise and that definitely reeled me in for the first half of the book but I was disappointed with the lack of conflict between the MCs in the story. I was hoping for more of a struggle between Elliot and Mads post accident. I also do not love the idea that Elliot and Mads relationship is the sole reason for Elliot’s drastic change in personality, along with how quickly he was able to overcome the traumas from his past, which were significant! Childhood trauma is deeply seeded in who a person is and can take many years, a lot of work and the support of medical professionals to overcome. Of course having a solid home base and a loving supporting partner is essential but I was disappointed that there was no mention of therapy or outside support even at the suggestion of Mads. The way the story reads is that Elliot was so broken that he barely conversed with people and just by being with Mads he was able to overcome that and just by sleeping next to her he no longer has nightmares triggered from PTSD and when Mads love was removed from their relationship Elliot quickly slipped back into experiencing his trauma. Over all I do not want to be too harsh on this novel. I thought the premise was good. I enjoyed the back and forth style of the chapters switching from then and now along with the varying view points switching from Mads to Elliot. If you are into romance novels and are not looking for a whole lot of conflict and conflict resolution between characters. For me the storyline fell a bit flat and redundant by the end of the book I could not listen to Elliot and Mads gush over each other anymore. Maybe I’m a cynic but I much prefer to read novels depicting more realistic stories of love with more bite and grit.

🪴 The vibes: - dual timeline ; dual POV - Amnesia - Highschool enemies - Marriage in crisis - Fade to black
🪴 My thoughts: 'Til You Came Along follows high school rivals to college lovers, Madeline and Elliot. After realizing the animosity they held towards each other was misplaced passion (surprise, surprise) - they fall hard and fast in love. They spend 7 years growing in that love as they build their life together. But when Madeline has a traumatic accident and loses her memories, she only remember the boy she hated in high school and not the husband she loves. Elliot is now forced to face a darkness and loneliness he thought was gone forever as he fights for his marriage and tries to make his wife fall in love with him again. She fell in love with him once, can she do it again?
💐 With the past timeline being in Madeline’s POV, and the current timeline being in Elliot’s POV- this was an absolute page turner. The romance in the past timeline felt fast to me. Madeline is 18 so I think it fits for the age in some ways. Also- we all know I like a slower than slow romance. So this may just be a me thing.
💐 But the romance in the current timeline gave me that slow vibe I love. It felt like a good level of angst considering the trauma they are dealing with.
💐 I really liked this one for the plot and the uniqueness of it. The idea of this story is one of the most fascinating plots I’ve heard of. In execution- I loved so many elements going on. I loved Elliot’s patience and the support of friends and family.
💐 There were some moments that felt forced or just moved a little bit too quickly for me. I couldn’t figure out if Elliot was endearing or maybe a little obsessive with his interest in Madeline in the beginning. (Reminiscent of Edward/Bella). The couple does feel a bit codependent to me throughout the book.
💐 Overall- I thought it was a really good read and super unique compared to other books I’ve read. The experience was very entertaining. It’s only when I pick through it with a comb that I start realizing that certain elements felt just a little off. So im considering it a win as far as vibes are concerned.
🖤 Lastly - I loved Madeline and Elliot’s friend Ana. I loved her support through all the disasters going on with her friends. I cannot wait to read her story next.
Fun fact: The flowers on the cover are Forget Me Nots. Which I thought was a cute Easter egg from the book.
this book tells the story of Madeline Hart and Elliot Decker. Madeline always thougth they were enemies, until a danger situation brought them closer. they finally realize the time they wasted “hating” each other, and find themselfs falling in love, fast and hard. after years building a life together, Madeline is involved in a tragic accident and loses all their memories together, only remembering that Elliot is the boy she hated in all her high school years. she fell in love with him once, can she do it again?
this is a dual pov that had me smiling in one chapter and crying in the next one (but i’m totally okay with it ahah). i fell in love with Elliot (new book boyfriend alert), he’s so precious and the love he has for Mads? BEAUTIFUL, everyone deserves a love like that. he never give up on her, even when she pushed him away.
it’s a really beautiful story. it shows that the right person could save you, even when you’re certain you’re life is a mess and don’t deserved to be loved. everyone deserves to be loved. Madeline saved Elliot and he finally realized he was enought to someone.
if you’re a fan of romances or need a book that makes your heart warm, i really recommend this one!
Wow, I am still speechless how much this book has sucked me in. I couldn't put it away. The story of Elliot and Mads is a very special one. Two soulmates that found to each other in the beginning of college and are happy ever since. Until a fateful day seven years later change their life drastically: Making them to strangers again. Elliot does everything to fight for their love, for their life, for their happiness. But will they succeed?
This book feels like two books in one, as we discover two storylines at the same time: Their time back in college as well as the current time after the accident. I enjoyed to explore their love and this book made me believe in love again. This is a compass for love. If you don't find someone that you feel with like Elliot and Mads does with each other, it's not worth your time.
Lorissa's debut is amazing and I am so happy that I found it and read it. I will definitely put Forget-me-nots on my list of favorite flowers now. Oh and I will write more sticky-notes to my future boyfriend. And will take a salsa class with him!
Have a million more praises to say about this book, but don't want to bore you.
'Til You Came Along is a beautiful debut from Lorissa Padilla. The story takes place in a dual timeline, chronicling how sunshiney Madeline fell in love with grumpy Elliot, whom she has known since high school. In college, an accident brings the two together and Madeline learns that maybe her impressions of Elliot have been wrong all along. In the present timeline, the two are happily married, but a car accident steals Madeline's memories after high school. She still thinks of Elliot as her enemy instead of her sweet, sensitive husband and he has to try to win her back while giving her enough space to heal.
It is absolutely beautiful to watch the characters fall in love not once, but twice. The writing is so sweet and tender that it will absolutely bring tears to your eyes. The book also explores some dark themes, but tenderly. Elliot has escaped a family abuse situation it is Madeline's warmth that helps to heal him
This book was just so sweet and lovely! Definitely check it out if you are looking for something really heartfelt and emotional with second chances, grumpy/sunshine, dual POV, he falls first, and closed door.
Lorissa is one of the kindness souls that I have met on the world of Bookstagram. Her marketing skills are superb and drew me in immediately! I’ve had this book on my TBR list for a while now and I finally got to it, preparing my heart to be broken, and pieced back together! This book did just that.
It starts out a bit slow, but in a good way, like how you have to push through that first season of the office to get to the really good stuff that you can’t put down. That’s how the beginning felt for me. I had to know, what was going to happen! Why did they hate each other at first? How will she get her memories back or will she? Will they have a HEA? The suspension was killing me…. In the best way!
Towards about 30% of the book, I was hooked, and couldn’t put it down. My heart broke so much for Elliott and the way he loves Madeline, SWOON! I love my softy male characters with big hearts. He was easy to love!

Dual timelines Second chances Marriage in crisis She looses her memories Fade to black Sweet romance True love
A very heartfelt read, the story is told in dual timelines, one from Maddie’s point of view during their freshman year and Elliot’s point of view, which happened after Maddie’s accident. Elliot had a wounded past, and Maddie was the sunshine girl.
As I said, it was a heartfelt read. I had tears reading about Elliot’s past and how he was keeping up with Maddie after the accident; he carried the whole book for me.
One thing that I was not happy about was how El’s continuously stated that Maddie’s gave him happiness; he is here because of Maddie, and so on. and I am glad that he realized that it was not right to be dependent on Maddie for his happiness and peace, but even after that, it was repetitive.
Maddie I know she was going through a whole other turmoil, but I hoped she could have communicated more with El’s or taken baby steps.
Her parents did make up for El’s parents and how they welcomed him into the family. El’s grandmother was a sweetheart and loved Ana and her goofy personality!
I loved all of the characters so much but I absolutely loved Elliot Decker the most.
Personally I felt everything he was feeling as I read. When he was sad, I was sad, when he was heartbroken I was heartbroken for him, when he was happy I was happy. You just truly get invested in his character and his emotions as you read (at least I know I did). He is a complicated character (with good reasons) and I think there is so much growth from him.
I loved Madeline, such a heartbreaking experience that she goes through. Ana was a favorite side character, she is the kind of best friend you want to have.
The dual POV, the back and forth then/now timelines had me at the edge of my seat wanting to know what happens next.
This book gave me The Vow vibes but so much better.
I am so proud of Lorissa Padilla for this debut novel, and on top of that she designed this beautiful cover.
I finished it in a day and felt all of the feels. It was like if Nicholas Sparks and Emily Henry had a baby. There is humor, depth, growth, friendship, angst, and so much love.
I want to highlight a few things:
Dual timeline/ dual perspective: Madeline’s perspective follows her college years and “how they came to be” while Elliot’s POV follows their present day, beginning where there is high tension as Madeline has just been in an accident.
The back and forth timeline/perspective really works, highlighting what each character loves about the other, their biggest fears, etc with poignant humor and longing.
Character relationships: There are no characters in this story that don’t serve a purpose. They’re all unique and meaningful, and the interactions are realistic and fun. Ana’s scenes are some of my favorites!
Fans of enemies to lovers, grumpy/sunshine, and marriage in crisis should definitely pre-order this lovely book to get it on April 18!
This was such a heartwarming read. Not only that, but it’s a story deeply rooted in healing which I absolutely loved. It was impossible not to root for these characters as they embarked on their emotional journey together.
I have such a soft spot for Elliot. His story especially was just so touching and sad and I NEEDED to help him find his happily ever after. I was totally sucked in and at the mercy of his story in particular. The amnesia trope is seriously one of my favorites. Like reading a book all over again for the first time. Getting to fall in love all over again, that plot is just so exciting to me!
I especially loved the dual timeline, which gave so much story depth. There was just no way I wasn’t going to be absolutely invested in this story.
I really loved how the book had past tense and presents. However, I wish that the past tense and the present tense wasn’t just one person I would have liked to see Madeline‘s point of view after she woke up and how she was feeling towards Elliot. And in the past tense I would’ve liked to see how Elliot was feeling about Madeline and the certain situation especially after his grandma’s funeral. I would’ve liked to see a chapter of him sitting in the bar with internal turmoil.
I loved the chapter with the funeral and the following chapter when he comes back.
Also, throughout the book, the “I love you” were kind of excessive and gave me 1000 thousand boy kisses vibes (which is a book I actually despise). it gave the book a sort of a young adult/teen type of feel. Which kind of made it hard to not skim at the last few pages. However, I like the book a lot and I am very excited to read the next one in the series.

• BOOK REVIEW • ‘Til You Came Along and ‘Til I Reach You Lorissa Padilla ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 • • • Words cannot begin to describe the emotions I felt during these stories… feelings of joy, hope, anguish, fear… all bundled tightly into this gift of Mads, Elliot, Hayden, David and Ana. What a ride. Lorissa magically writes these narratives that are so authentic, raw and WOW. They sweep you up and take you along on a journey of healing and love. A journey that gives you goosebumps and smiles wrapped into two beautiful stories. The story of learning to live, to practice patience, that healing takes TIME (and a little music). Mads and Ana are easily two of my favorite characters. Best friends from elementary school and always showing up for each other no matter what happen. Literally. Each character has their own story of loss and joy. The dual timeline within the books of leading up too and current day is perfectly done with not one once of confusion. If you want to feel your feels, cry and giggle. These two are for you. Lorissa does include a note within ‘Til I Reach You that gives TW and lets you know to skip ahead and you won’t miss vital storyline details which I greatly appreciated the sentiment! Please make sure to read all TW as this story is heavy but ends so beautifully.
I did receive an ARC for ‘Til I Reach You. Thank you!
Honestly this one just didn’t hold my attention. Madeline and Elliot’s relationship in the past felt fast and forced and a bit confusing. The current timeline started out sweet with Elliot really wanting to help his wife regain memories after a tragic brain injury, but eventually the relationship felt a bit odd. I’m not exactly sure why, but Elliot’s character felt almost impulsive and obsessive throughout. The whole, “I was this way until you came along” thing felt like an excuse and made their relationship feel codependent. I kept comparing this to The Vow and I just didn’t really like these characters or the way the story was set up.
Let me say that I loved “Til I Reach You” by this author. LOVED! And I loved Ana and Elliot and Madeline in that one so maybe because I read that first, this one felt “off.” Seriously, don’t give up on this author if this one didn’t work for you! Read the next one!
Wow! Simply, wow. Lorissa you killed it with this book. I’m a sucker for a dual point of view book. I could not put it down. Each chapter left me questioning how the book would tie together at the end and left me longing to keep reading.
My heart broke for Elliot and the pain he felt. I laughed, cried and cheered Elliot and Madeline on the whole way. You can feel the passion in their relationship through the entire book.
If you love stories of redemption and second chances, then this book is perfect for you. You will fall in love with the characters and not want the book to end.
Such a beautiful piece of art Lorissa! Thank you for the chance to read it and support your work!
'Til You Came Along will be available for purchase on April 18 for paperback & Ebook. It will also be available on Kindle Unlimited
Love love loved this one! I think the story was so beautifully written. I hung on to every word, every emotion 💙
It was swoony because of Elliott and Madeline's love for one another 🥰 Madeline learning to love Elliott tugged at my heart strings ❤️ "I've always known she is too good for me. She is... incredible. She is light. She is so pure and joyful. She is sunshine." 🌞
It was also emotional because it tackled challenging topics, such as, addiction and abuse. Elliott's family and past especially got me 🥺
I loved the writing flow! I love that the story went back and forth between past and present. The way the chapters connected to each other weaved everything together perfectly!! 👏👏
I think this might be one of my favorite book covers tbh 💙 Once I figured out the meaning behind the cover, I adored it.
