I enjoyed the local references to Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands. The story seemed to take a while to get to the climax and it seemed the author was really thumping through the thesaurus to find obscure and unique words while leading to the culmination of action. Once that was underway, the writing moved along with ease and I did not feel distracted by excessive effort to keep my interest.
