Product Description

A dangerous serial killer hunting women is on the loose in Charlotte, North Carolina, a charming community known as the Queen City. Nikki Jennings is an up-and-coming news journalist, assigned to covering the story for her local news affiliate. Her journalism work puts her alongside the lead detective on the case, Taylor Nichols, who is leery of becoming close with the media, but Nikki is determined that she can be an asset to his investigation.

Not only is she entrenched in the search for the murderer, but she is also navigating the cutthroat television news business that has dangers of its own lurking behind every camera. As the investigation drags on, fear rises in the community to new levels as more and more women continue to go missing.

No one can be trusted, and the news headline remains the Who is behind the Queen City murders? Both Taylor and Nikki will be reminded, serial killers are supreme experts at living double lives, and sometimes those closest to them often know them the least.

WOW!

I was super impressed with Kaitlyn Vincie’s debut novel, Save the Queen City. It left me hanging on every page and kept me questioning myself until the very end.

Nikki Jennings is a less-than-experienced reporter that moves to the city of Charlotte from small-town Tennessee during the height of a serial killer investigation. Nikki finds herself thrown into lead journalist on the case that will stretch her in ways she could have never imagined. As a young, new, rose-colored-glasses female journalist, she is confronted with the typical mean girl at the office, a cop that doesn’t see her as an ally, and discovers that her dream job is full of secrets. It all seems worth it to Nikki because she meets her dream man, or so she thinks.

Vincie did a fantastic job with the character development in this novel, and the ending did not feel forced and kept me guessing throughout. I also really enjoyed being a Charlotte local and reading all about the local spots that they visited and I think the author did a great job describing the city and helping the reader understand the city’s vibe, even for those not familiar with the queen city.

The book also touched on some sensitive topics, including harassment in the workplace. I thought Vincie did a great job addressing it, and was a great way to support those in the industry that have gone through it and those that haven’t, gave them insight to what might go on behind the screen.

I hope this isn’t Vincie’s last book as she has a true talent and recommend the book to anyone that lives local to Charlotte as I think you will find it super interesting. I also would recommend it to any of my friends that enjoy a good “who done it with a twist”.

Absolutely ridiculous but for some reason I read the whole thing. Not a terrible premise but certainly would have been better if an actual author had written the story.

Save the Queen City came up on my Instagram feed by a Bookstagram follower based in Charlotte, North Carolina. I was eager to read this book because the setting takes place in Charlotte, and I grew up and went to college there. I will say, it was a lot of fun reading a book I had personal ties to, especially since I recognized all the landmarks mentioned throughout!

This book was a light, easy, and fun thriller to read. I hate to compare books, but although I found the ending of this book very predictable, Kaitlyn Vincie’s writing style was WAY better than Jeneva Rose’s book The Perfect Marriage, which also had a very predicable outcome too (both books are chic-lit thrillers). I’m honestly surprised Save the Queen City hasn’t gotten noticed or picked up by critics, but maybe it has something to do with the publishing agency she went though (or maybe it’s a self published book?).

If you grew up or live in Charlotte, went to UNC Charlotte, and/or like chic-lit thrillers, this is the book for you! Save the Queen City is also on Kindle Unlimited, so if you have the subscription, it’s definitely worth the read!

Best of luck to Kaitlyn Vincie and hope she continues to write more novels in the future!

wow!

Such a fun, twisty book ! As a Charlotte native it was fun to connect with the surroundings and mourn what use to be (RIP Epicenter). The final twist is one I never saw coming, which makes it even better !

I loved this book SO MUCH! It’s been awhile since I found a book that I couldn’t put down and this one definitely fit the bill. Also loved the fact it took place it Charlotte. I really enjoyed that it was written from a journalism perspective and the twists and turns in the storyline kept me guessing the entire time. Kaitlyn Vincie knocked it out of the park with this one!

It's possible that I loved this because it's based on Charlotte so it was fun being able to picture all these things actually happening.

But even without that tie, it was finally a book that I just couldn't put down. It's been awhile since I've had one of those and guessing how the ending would play out had me putting the book in my purse for any extra seconds to read.

I am SO impressed that this is a debut novel. Such a fun, quick read with great twists. As someone who thought she wanted to be a broadcast journalist, I loved the insight into what that life is really like. Highly recommend Save the Queen City!!!

Shocked by how much I loved this book, as murder mystery is not my usual genre. But this book was such a great read, it’s hard to believe it’s a debut novel. Every time I thought I knew what was happening, I’d be blown away by a new twist. Congrats to Kaitlyn on her incredible debut, and I can’t wait to see what she does next.

The writing was good—engaging dialogue, character development and storytelling was descriptive without too much "filler." It was a quick read, which I enjoyed. I'd like to read more from this author after she has a few years to hone her skill.

HOWEVER, the plot was so incredibly predictable, and very hard to believe. All of Nikki's relationships were forced to develop much too quickly. Nobody falls in love after a 5 minute meeting. Nobody develops a close friendship with several people after one day at a new job. If the story had been that she had moved to town a year before everything took place, it may have been more believable. But I had a hard time getting past what seemed like a very forced plot line.

This book had so much buildup in the back half and I was super excited, but then it all resolved way too quickly? Idk

Charlotte native here! I think Kaitlyn did a good job with this book as a newer author. It is a modern realization of classic whodunits. I admire how the potential killers are brought into the protagonist’s life. Though I was fairly certain who the killer was (and I was right!), I still wasn’t 100% sure until the end and there is a still a twist waiting for you. I think it’s important to note that because even as a new author, she realized the importance of that. Almost all of us seasoned thriller/mystery readers can figure out who the killer is, so having that unexpected twist is important and satisfying!

Now, a couple of gripes I have. The book references UNCC as UNC repeatedly. NO ONE calls UNC of Charlotte UNC for short. It’s always UNCC. The people at UNC would lose their mind over this lol. Also, the epicenter is frequently referenced as a bustling spot but the epicenter has been dead and a desert for some years now. I’m not sure exactly when it dropped off, it may have been after she wrote this. And my final gripe is with the editor for not catching some unnatural language throughout that stuck out to me. For example, when asked if she would like to get some drinks, the main character replies “I am game.” No one would say it like that, it would be “I’m game.” Lots of things like that throughout. Not the authors fault really, because we do tend to write formally.

I think it was a solid book, I would read her other books if she wrote more!

I loved this book so much! It's written in alternating character review between Nikki and Taylor which is a style I have always loved. Although the main story line is catching a serial killer terrorizing Charlotte, there are so many more story lines then that to keep you engaged. It also kept me guessing throughout the whole book who the killer was. It's hard not to fall in love with the character of Nikki and all her trials and tribulations that she encounters when she moves from small town Tennessee to the big city. This is something that many people can relate to. I cannot recommend this five start read enough; you will love it and not stop telling your friends about it.

Great read that will have you guessing

First off, great job Kaitlyn and congrats on your first novel. Hopefully you'll write more books. This book was easy to read. Other novels ive read go overboard with too much detail and lose the reader. This novel was written just right. I love the first person perspective telling of the story. You feel like your in the story. The novel does make you think about who the actual killer is and by the end I knew who it was but got thrown for a loop when the true identity was revealed.

I really liked this one! A quick paced whodunnit mystery. I had the ending figured out for awhile, but the cutthroat news station setting, workplace harassment justice, and the great female characters had me hooked Nikki is a badass, I loved her.

A who-done-it of the highest quality. I just knew that I had locked in on the killer from the very beginning, but I had yet to scratch the surface.

I loved all of the twists and turns in this one and how it’s written in a way that the reader can easily follow this crazy tangled plot.
