And it all began rather serendipitously. Long ago, as they say, in another time, when fast food hadn't reached our area and the only shopping was what the feed mill offered, I was reading a book that annoyed me .

My husband was lying beside me in bed, watching TV. Turning to him, I sort of petulantly said, "How the hell did this book get published?"

"If you think you're so smart," he replied, with one eye still on the TV, "why don't you write a book?"

So I did. And very badly.

I've since learned how to do, he said, she said, and a great variety of other adverb heavy, sometimes lengthy explanations of why my characters are saying what they're saying, along with finally coming to an understanding of what things like POV means. Point of View for you non-writers}.

Although, I still don't fully comprehend why it matters if you switch POV and I cavalierly disregard it as much as possible. So while my technical skills have hopefully improved, what hasn't changed is my great joy in writing. There's as much pleasure today in listening to my characters talk while I type as fast as I can, as there was the first time I put dialogue to paper--in long-hand, then, in my leather bound sketch-book.

As You Wish and Stealing the Bride feature males who are Alpha in their own ways amongst their peers, and have the reputation for being able to have any woman they want. The females are women who are not at all inclined to be chained by society’s of ideas of what a decent woman is. A Storm of Love is a fantasy/pnr tale in which the female plays a stronger role as she’s had so much sorrow in her life that she’s become more independent.

The one thing I appreciated about this book overall was that all of the stories were well done for shorts. The characters were well developed and the storylines clear, interesting and easy to follow.

These stories are all very sexy with some hot and yummy scenes.

As You Wish by Susan Johnson - HR 4.5/5 stars

This was a fun story! At first I thought it was going to be the same ol’, same ol’, but I soon found out that wasn’t the case. Alex, Earl of Albion, loves to gamble and he places bets on just about anything - even when the wager was whether or not he could seduce and take the virginity of one Felicity Belvoir who was being secluded by her step mother while awaiting her debut into society. So how was he to do this when the young lady was never allowed to her home? With twenty thousand pounds on the line, he was more than willing to give it a shot. But what happened when he finally got to her was quite unexpected and surprising.

I adore both Alex and Felicity and their very unorthodox meeting and relationship. I smiled and laughed frequently, and while this was my first Susan Johnson read, it will not be my last!!!

A Storm of Love by Terri Brisbin – HR/PNR/Fantasy 3.5/5

This was my first read by Terri Brisbin and I had no idea what to expect. The story of Breac and Aigneis is a tale of love lost and love found, curses and gifts, punishment, death and more. Terri Brisbin has given us this tale of grief, which is colored in shades of pain and heartache until at last Breac and Aigneis are able to let go of their pasts and the burden of their grief, finding in one another hope, forgiveness and love.

A slightly darker tale, this one was a little slow to start and I had actually considered not finishing it, but I’m glad I did because ultimately A Storm of Love turned out to be a lovely story. I was a bit surprised at the fantasy/pnr flavor to this one because the other two tales are strictly historical romance.

It’s possible that this story is related to a series by this author, and if it is, she did a great job of filling in the blanks because I never felt “out of the loop” or lost regarding the special abilities or back story.

Sexual content: the usual and one close encounter of the anal kind.

Stealing The Bride by Mary Wine - HR 5/5 stars.

Laird Monroe is in need of a wife and there is no shortage of brothers and fathers who think that they know just the right woman for him – their very own sisters or daughters. But Laird Monroe has grown weary of the arguing, manipulating and the lies. He knows that these men gathered around his table and filling his hall would do and say anything to form a strong alliance with his powerful clan through marriage. Fed up with the games, he tossed everyone out – or so he thought. Dunmore Leask isn’t quite ready to leave. At least not before he has a chance to speak to Hayden, face to face, and tell him all about his feisty sister, Elspeth.

Elspeth Leask has decided that she will only marry for love, if she marries at all, so when her brother, Dunmore, returns with the news that Laird Hayden Monroe is coming to meet her, she isn’t at all happy. It takes some fast talking and negotiating to convince her to give the infamous laird a chance.

I’ve been a big fan of Mary Wine’s Highlanders ever since reading In Bed With A Stranger which is why I bought this book in the first place, and this story just further solidified her standing as one of my favorite Highlander authors. This was a great read right from the start, holding my attention right to the end and had me smiling throughout.

I’m really hopeful that we’ll see Pherson Dalry in a future story. That bad boy has some serious secrets and I can’t wait to see them revealed.

A Storm of Love

A Storm of Love is a great short story of Breac a highlander who was on a search to help his sister. On his travels he ended up saving a woman named Aigneis. When he saved her he was instantly attracted to her and didn’t understand why and also he was helping her when he wanted to get back to his sister. Aigneis also had an attraction to him but was in denial about it because she was older and held a hidden power and was afraid that he wouldn't understand. When they eventually reached his village the leader of the land found out about her past and threatens to tell Breac about her. So now she was torn between the man she fell in love with and the truth of who she was.
I thought this was a good love story on how even though you are older you can still fall in love. I wished it was a longer story because I feel it would of made a great book. I felt that what Aigneis was searching for in the end was left unanswered and I would like another story to continue about the land she came from and the people who live there.

I love Susan Johnson -- I thought at least her story would be good, but this book did very little for me. I got through it, but it did not hold my attention as others have done.

Historical Romance/3 authors/ 3 stories
Susan Johnson: "As You Wish" The earl of Albion has placed a $20,000 wager on bedding the virgin Felicity Belvoi, but she finds out about the bet and uses it for her own purpose. The earl finds his perfect match, the story is so amazing about young love and pleasure. A page turner, you will not be able to put this book down.
Terri Brisbin: "A storm of Love" This story is about a woman cast away named Agnes of Mull in the wild lands of Argyll and a younger lover named Breac who finds the cast away and brings her to his land and erases all of her sorrow and he finds true love. I loved this story, very moving and once you start reading it you'll stay up all night long til you finish.
Mary Wine: "Stealing The Bride" Brawny and brave, Hayden Monroe is a laird in need of a wife and the beautiful Elspeth Leask shalll be his. But he must bed her to wed her, this story is amazing!

An entertaining anthology of three bestselling authors. Johnson's "As You Wish" involves a predictable wager and a certain understanding between Felicity--a virgin, and Albion--a notorious rake. The sex-capades are fun to follow, but the stakes get higher when they get caught and their fathers get involved. A Storm of Love was a satisfying beginning to Brisbin's Storm series. On his journey home, Breac saves Agnes' life. While he takes her away from the person who ordered her dead, Agnes learns to trust men again, and he is stunned by her otherworldly gifts and past hardships. The most exciting of the three, Stealing the Bride by M. Wine, involves Hayden, a sexy highlander laird, the outspoken and courageous Elspeth, and the intriguing, so-called enemy Pherson who steals her away. Undone is a very enjoyable read with great characters and good writing. 4 stars.

After about 20 pages, I skipped the first story by Susan Johnson. I just couldn't get into it.

I have read Terri Brisbin's highlander series and really enjoyed it. "A Storm of Love" was interesting for a novella but I didn't feel any connection between the characters.

"Stealing the Bride" by Mary Wine was the best. I liked both Hayden and Elspeth. Their attraction to each other was understandable and well developed for a novella. I will probably re-read their story.
