Quinn's Hart

Rate this book
Quinn Delaney has never had much luck with men. Shy and uncomfortable with his height, he's always tried to blend in rather than stand out. When his former foster sister and best friend cons him into going on a singles' trip to Walt Disney World, Quinn is certain he will be miserable. Then he meets Josh.

Being dumped by his high-maintenance boyfriend a couple of weeks before a trip to Disney World isn't what Josh Hart had planned, but he's determined not to let it get him down. Rebooked on a singles' trip, Josh intends to make the most of his first trip to an amusement park. On the first day, he meets shy, sexy Quinn, but the man is clueless about his own appeal.

If Quinn wants to catch the man of his dreams, he'll have to be willing to risk the one thing he's never put on the line before—his heart.

By day, I am a middle school teacher. I spend much of my time grading papers, filling out paperwork, and trying to get 6th- and 7th- graders to read.

When I am not at work, I can generally be found at the computer, dreaming up stories about men falling in love. When I have spare time (which is unfortunately not too often anymore!) I read romance of all kinds. Occasionally I pretend to do housework, but my hubby isn't fooled!

That's right...only if you are prepared for a case of the feels straight to the vein, should you attempt this book.

What to expect:

- a socially awkward, 6'7", gentle giant of an environmental engineer named Quinn. He's never known love and had to endure an alcoholic, abusive father until the age of 13 and then foster care. He's not supermodel handsome but he is kind. Possible side effects: tears welling in one's eye, a protective instinct for Quinn (I wanted to coat Quinn in a candy coated shell and guard him like a mother hawk)

- a social 31 year old hot geek pediatrician named Josh Hart who doesn't seem to mind tall, shy geeks

- an angst free read with a simple but closer to realistic PLOT

- sweet vanilla love (the sex was steamy)

- an entertaining cast of secondary characters (with a queeny diva or two)

- beginnings of possible love development in the happiest place on Earth (for a former frequent visitor of Disney World...it was like a fun little blast through the past through the main characters' eyes)

What not to expect:

- ridiculous plot devices thrown in just because

- any kink or unnecessary drama

- not feeling something afterwards

Erm... I think this might be my favorite Cassandra Gold to date. I really enjoyed and overlooked the cheesiness and softness at times.

In case you do break that glass (suggestion maybe when you need a quick case of the feels), the end result is glorious, fresh cottony candy feels!

Or this:

For what I wanted to read, this book was very enjoyable.

I wanted zero angst, zero hurt, zero stress. I just wanted to read about nice boys falling in love. This book completely delivered.

Aspects of the plot were a bit perplexing, but this may be due to cross-cultural confusion. New Zealand doesn't have a tradition of a dating culture, and because of this the idea of a singles holiday with assigned pairs for activities seemed very weird to me**.

Had I been in a more demanding mood I would have picked on the writing, but I shall not, instead I will thank Cassandra Gold for helping me drift off to sweet sweet dreams.

**The idea of dating is still infrequently found here, mainly in cities, and is quite different to what I gather it's like in the US. This may or may not be linked to New Zealand allegedly (according to a 2007 Durex survey) having the most promiscuous women in the world. Certainly it's the only country in which women self-report a higher number of sexual partners than men do.

Growing up in urban New Zealand in the 1980s the traditional courtship ritual consisted of drinking enough Miami Wine Cooler to enable plausible deniability the following morning, having sex with someone you've liked from afar/their best mate/some random person you never saw before, and, the next morning, if you both remember the act (and are prepared to admit you remember), you are now "going out". The "going out" stage may last anything from two hours to thirty years.

In case you think this was just my slutty self, I present in evidence a forum thread on NZ men and dating culture:

"There’s a skit by a New Zealand comedian where a thirtysomething guy catching up with an old friend asks: “hey, whatever happened to that girl you threw up on at Dave’s party?”. The friend replies: “we’re really happy; our youngest just turned four”. This goes a long way to summing up the romantic situation in New Zealand. Not a lot happens without alcohol; and when in the haze of inebriation two people do hook up, they often start acting like an old married couple within a couple of weeks. So stilted is male-female interaction most of the time that a drunken entanglement is seen as destiny."

I acknowledge that life was far, far worse for gay guys, as homosexuality was illegal in New Zealand until August 1986. Celibacy was the only option to be certain of avoiding fucking imprisonment!! God, the fear and self-doubt that must have engendered. To the Gen X, Baby Boomer, and Silent Generation gay men of New Zealand: I'm deeply sorry you never had the options I did as a callow youth.

Obligatory reread because I miss Disneyland soooo much.

Being a Disney Geek Girl, this book auto-upgraded from 4 to 5 stars for me. What can I say, it took me to the happiest place on earth, that's worth a star.

A very sweet read, probably a little too sweet for some tastes. But, if you are in the mood for that kind of book (who isn't sometimes?) then this is a good pick.

Quinn is a big guy with terrible self-esteem and crippling shyness. He gets shanghaied into a singles trip to Disney World and is dreading it from the beginning but determined to see it through. He meets his dream man Josh who is having some struggles of his own, and they stumble through the getting-to-know you angst. You get to know the characters as they get to know each other and you can't help but root for their HEA.

If you take the attitude from the beginning that this book is a sweet mental vacation break, you will thoroughly enjoy it. If you are looking for life changing epiphanies and drama then come back to this one when you need some lovely fluff.

Quinn is the epitome of a gentle giant and is painfully shy and self conscious due to being a very tall guy and a rough childhood.
On a singles trip to Disney he meets Josh. Josh soon discovers there's more to Quinn than meets the eye.
This is a sweet, romantic and angst free story, that I really enjoyed!

This is a very cute and sweet story. Quinn is an introvert. Because of his height, people are either afraid of him or want him to tie them up in bed. In reality, he's shy, hates crowds and not very handsome. Josh is the opposite. He loves crowds, is always happy and extremely attractive. When they're both booked for a single's tour to Disneyland, they realize just how perfect for each other they are.

This is definitely a book many people will probably re-read because of how sweet the romance is. I loved how even though Quinn isn't Josh's normal type, Josh still made it his mission to get Quinn out of his shell and along the way falls hard for Quinn. And, Quinn. He's just a lovable character. His shyness makes him adorable in my eyes and his insecurities make him a gentle giant.

The added conflict of jealous ex-boyfriends, annoying trip members and a match-making travel agent makes this a book I definitely recommend. [image error]

...and what a chore that book was! The story was as boring as Magic Kingdom itself.
Rainbows and lollipops wherever you turn, even "villains" feel sticky with sugar syrup residue.
An attempt at angst via introducing us to a few shady characters at "meet and greet" and a sorry excuse for an "ex boyfriend" character was pathetic.

Not my cup, as they say... (I myself prefer a glass of wine)

Sweet, sappy, romantic perfection! Thanks to my dear GR friend Ann for recommending this book to me during a weekend when I was particularly bummed out and needed an angst-free pick-me-up. This book delivered with extra sweetness and a big 'ol HEA that made me smile 'till it hurt! Recommended for anyone else with the blues!

Quinn’s Hart is a sweet and nice love story, as often the stories by this author are. There is a good story behind, but nothing of complicated or too much angst, and basically there is a “dream date” plot that most of the time doesn’t happen in real life, but it’s not so unconceivable that couldn’t be.

Quinn is a big and shy man; due to his body, more than 6’7’’ of height and all heavy muscle, Quinn scares off people who see him for the first time, and since he is also shy, he doesn’t try to make them change mind. So at 37 years old he is still alone, even if, aside from his looks, there wouldn’t be any other reason, Quinn is quite a catch on a relationship level, he is gentle and caring, with a good job and a above average life. So when his friend Stephanie forces him to book a travel in an organized trip for single, Quinn faces the thing with worries but also hopes, maybe this is the time that he will find the right man.

Josh on the other hand is the perfect man: handsome and nice, a doctor, he is the perfect dream date and obviously he is the one that all the other singles in the group would like to catch. But since Josh is tired of the twink type, and he is not attracted by the best friend type, truth be told he arrives to Quinn by exclusion. For Josh it’s not love at first sight, like he himself says, you have to look at Quinn twice and trice to start to notice that he has a kind smile, that when he smiles he has a special light in his eyes, that even if he is big and strong, he has always a gentle touch…

Even if both men are not exactly “boys”, the feeling of the story is almost innocent. Maybe it’s since they are on vacation, and real life doesn’t intrude. Maybe also the location of the travel, the amusement parks around Disneyworld, gives a light feeling to the story. Or maybe it’s simply since this is, as I said, a nice and sweet love story. The two men will have the time to know each other, and to understand, especially Josh, that they were lucky enough to meet a soul mate, exactly what everyone secretly hopes when is booking a travel like that, and that, most of the time, doesn’t find. Yes, they will have to face some little trouble, nothing insurmountable, and the reader knows, without doubt, that they will find the way to smooth it over and to reach for their happily ever after.

This novel is a romance story in the truest sense, as the focus of the story is the burgeoning relationship between Quinn and Josh. There really isn't a plot to the story other than providing a scenario for the relationship to develop.

Quinn is a shy, gentle giant, overcoming a difficult childhood and people's expectations of him that his size seems to inspire. Josh, on the other hand, is a charming, outgoing doctor who had been recently dumped by his narcissistic boyfriend. The story focuses on how Josh manages to see beyond Quinn's exterior, while Quinn provides Josh with someone who is down to earth and understands the demands of a doctor's life.

This is a very sweet, feel-good novel which may be overly sweet for many. However I had just finished reading a series of dark political novels, and this provided the perfect remedy. I suspect this will make it to my comfort read shelf.

My jaws hurt from reading this book.

What I said at the beginning is true. My jaws are very sore from reading this book. I had a sappy grin on my face from the third chapter on-wards.

The characters were just too cute. Quinn and Josh had me laughing and sometimes I felt like I should cry. But I didn't, it was too hard to cry because as the reader we knew what was going on better than the character. I ca't say who I preferred because they both had something really special about them.

This book had a lot and not so much at the same time. It was a simple story, no huge drama, but some things were built into it. That made the story better. I really loved this.

I highly recommend this story. It is very sweet and I think people will thoroughly enjoy it.

This is a sweet short story about a big man with a troubled past and terrible self-image, and the guy who sees past his shy aloofness and size to the man inside. This would be a great choice after something angsty; just enough stress and emotion not to be saccharine, a hot couple with character and chemistry, and a little humor thrown in. Very nice.

Well isn’t Quinn just the sweetest doll ever! I admit I’ve got a soft spot for the big tall behemoth that just has no idea how adorably sweet they are. Plus I totally understand the whole not being comfortable in crowds thing. This book just let me with a warm soft spot in my heart. And for once I didn’t hate a HFN sort of ending.

Quinn Delaney hasn’t had a lot of luck in life, his size being rather intimidating to most people. Growing up with an alcoholic abusive father who constantly berated him to be a man. But, Quinn’s shy nature has always had a hold and he’s perfected the art of appearing unassuming, almost to the point of disappearing in spite of his size. Now he’s stuck on some single’s trip to Disney World at the insistence of his former foster sibling and best friend. She’s a travel agent and overbooked a trip and needs Quinn to go along to even out the numbers. Besides maybe he will meet someone despite his discomfort in a group.

Josh Hart hadn’t planned on making this trip alone, but when his boyfriend dumps him three weeks before they were supposed to head to Florida on vacation he decided to go alone anyway. His travel agent said someone had cancelled last minute on this single’s trip and offered him the spot. Josh had never been to an amusement park before and if the enthusiasm of his young patients is anything to go on it should be a fun time. Seeing the tall shy man so uncomfortable with his surroundings though keeps grabbing Josh’s attention.

I really enjoyed the fact that this book didn’t go overboard and make this a love at first sight thing. In fact everything here felt like a very real introduction of two men discovering each other. The circumstances of their meeting might have been a little unusual, but who wouldn’t want to enjoy the fun thrill of meeting someone at Disney World. I loved the slow pace of these two men’s introductions to each other. They took the time to get to know one another, it was lovely.

Somehow the entire premise of this book was wonderfully believable because it carried the magic of the Disney World with it. I liked Quinn and Josh together. I liked the care and patience they took. Of course the distraction of the odoriferous men chasing them adds just enough of a foil to give us some entertainment and misunderstandings to set right.

So I absolutely wanted to wrap Quinn in bounds of sweetness and light and keep his poor heart from ever being hurt again. I loved the care Josh took with him. The burgeoning romance between the two was wonderful in how it brought Quinn out of his shell and started to allow him to have more confidence in himself. Not to mention some hot bits of sex when these two finally came together.

While there wasn’t a lot to this story all together, I mean as far as dramatic plot elements go, it’s an absolutely beautiful romance. It’s light and sweet and warms the cockles of my heart. If you’re in the mood for a feel good story then this is the perfect quick cup of tea for you. I mean who doesn’t love the happiest place on Earth. :D

I enjoyed this read a lot for all that it’s a simple love story. I liked the fact that it didn’t try to be more than it was and for once I was happy with the HFN ending because it didn’t presume more than was in the story. Quinn and Josh are perfect together and I’m left with a whole big heaping of hope that they’ll make it all work together.

It's so nice to know that there are books I can come to when I've had it with angst and drama. When my emotions need a little downtime, I can fall into a sweet, fun, easy read that makes me happy and leaves me feeling good. That, in a nutshell, is 'Quinn's Hart' by Cassandra Gold. The story of one man who has spent his whole life with a very poor self-image, and the man who looks inside him and finds what he's been waiting for.

At six foot seven inches, and two hundred and fifty muscled pounds, Quinn isn't small. He's spent his whole life being judged based on his size, and, frankly, the world isn't designed for anyone except average-sized people. Of course, in his eyes, Quinn doesn't think his face is all that great, or his personality, and he's very shy. So, why is he on a singles trip to Disney World? Because his best friend, Stephanie, a travel agent, convinced him it would be good for him and maybe he'd finally meet Mr. Right. At thirty-six, Quinn is fairly certain that isn't going to happen. Luck is on his side, though, when he meets Josh.

Josh is thirty-one, a pediatrician, and has always wanted to come to Disney World. When his boyfriend breaks up with him, on the answering machine no less, his lovely travel agent manages to rearrange the plans Josh and his ex had, and get Josh onto the singles trip. On the first full day of the trip at the Magic Kingdom, Josh realizes that first impressions aren't always accurate. Sure, Quinn is shy and quiet, but when Josh spends time with him one-on-one Josh finds him to be funny, sweet, and when he smiles it lights up his face. Josh finds Quinn more and more attractive as the day goes on. Quinn, on the other hand, can't figure out why this gorgeous guy wants to spend time with him.

This book was exactly what I needed tonight. Quinn is impossible not to love. He's a gentle giant who's gotten a bum rap from life throughout his childhood and he still struggles with some of it. Josh is adorable and the very best kind of guy—the kind who looks beyond the surface for the real person hiding within. They had the best week vacation and falling in love was a bonus for both. This will be on my reread shelf because sometimes I just need gentle, sweet, and sexy, and Quinn and Josh are definitely that.

When Quinn Delaney's best friend, Stephanie, overbooks a singles trip to Disney world, she sees an opportunity to get her best friend out of his shell and out into the open. And with a little luck, maybe get him laid.

Quinn just wants to survive the trip, not make a fool of himself, and maybe grab a little free time to stare at the hottie that keeps popping up. Not that Quinn thinks he'll have a mouse's chance in a cat shop of snagging the beautiful, smiling man, but no one said he couldn't look. And no one said he couldn't dream. After all, if you can't dream in the heart of Disney World, where can you?

When a twist of fate lands them together at dinner, Quinn tries his best to not make a complete ass of himself. Little does he know that he's not been the only one looking. And that it is not only his height that makes him stand head and shoulders above the crowd of single gay men.

This book was recommended to be by a friend when I'd just gone through a rather angst laden book, and needed something to soothe my ruffled feathers and heal my bleeding heart. I was promised love and happiness and all the kitten and rainbows I could possible swallow. I have very very good friends.

This book was a pleasant balance of he-can't-possibly-want-me and fairytale romance. There is enough uncertainty in the book that you feel drawn into the story, that you hooked into rooting for Quinn and Josh, but never feel the need to hide under your covers. Unless, of course, it is to sigh happily. I love this cute love story. Totally enjoyed the fact that there were moments of trepidation--and wanting to pry Clay and Damien off the pair with a crowbar and then beat them with it--but you feel safe in the authors hands, knowing that Quinn and Josh will get their happy-ever-after. You'll just have to be a little bit patient.

This book is a perfect pick-me-up to read in between those angsty, please-don't-make-me-cry-oh-god-I'm-leaking, books. Quinn is the perfect combination of sweet and insecure, while Josh has an easy smile, and a rather dodgy record in picking boyfriends. They work so well together and you can't help but hope that after Mickey Mouse and his costume-wearing pals, are miles behind them, that they will still be just as madly in love. 4.5 stars. Perfect for a Saturday afternoon read.

I read m/m romace for one reason - the romance! While I sometimes enjoy m/m books with more intricate plots, action, etc, the bottom line is that I read it for the romance. If I want a more substantial book, I'll read a "real" book.
So this book is kind of perfect for me. It's just a sweet, no non-sense romance with characters I could relate to, and a cute setting (Disney World!)
This would be 4 stars, but unfortunately it did get rather boring toward the end. Not to mention the sex scenese were very generic. You could have copied and pasted it from any m/m book. I pretty much skipped all the sex.

I have a couple other little niggles that arent' really about this book at all, but more comments on the genre as a whole. These issues did not affect my star rating at all.

1. Quinn is a rather shy, insecure guy. Hey, I can relate! I like reading these kinds of characters. I too am shy and insecure and have a hard time making friends or meeting guys and I really don't date a whole lot. But it seems like any time I run across these characters in m/m, there's always some kind of reason behind it. In Quinn's case, he grew up with an abusive, alcoholic father who was always putting him down, and then spent his teen years being shuffled around through foster care. What about the people who are just naturally shy? Why does there alway have to be some traumatic past to "explain" it? Some people are just shy. No trauma. Where are these characters? What is this isinuation that there has to be something "wrong" with you if you have insecurities?

2. What is this prejudice against people who go to the gym? I see this a lot. "He was lean and muscular. You could tell he got his muscles from work and play, not from a gym." What's wrong with getting fit at a gym? Some of us have desk jobs. Some of us don't really have time to go hiking or swimming or play sports all the time, even if we'd like to. It's okay to go to a gym. You're not less attractive if your fitness happened in a gym verses on a mountain or playground.

3. While writing this review, I have had a stupid ad for the movie "The Woman In Black" frozen over my review the entire time. WTF???

I loved this sweet, gentle story about a sweet, gentle man. We actually got both viewpoints in various chapters, so technically I suppose it was almost as much Josh's story as Quinn's. But it felt very much like Quinn's story. His insecurity, shyness, and self-doubt were explained well and realistic, so I never felt like he was too self-deprecating (something that's great in small doses and obnoxious when taken too far). And I loved seeing him come out of his shell and have fun.

The romance felt like it developed at the right pace for the circumstances. My only problem with it is that we weren't told until the very end where Josh lives, and I kept wondering why neither of them were stressing about the long-term potential if it would be a long-distance relationship. Eventually that lack of concern was explained by the offhand discovery that they conveniently live in the same city. Total non-issue. However, considering it was a vacation trip to Disney World, I assume people came from all over the country, if not around the world. So some discussion, or at least concern, along the "so...where do you live?" lines would have been more realistic.

It was fun getting to visit Disney World with them, and see it through their eyes. The It's a Small World ride - one of my favorites as a child - was particularly hilarious. The Pirates of the Caribbean ride was another childhood favorite, but I haven't been since long before the Johnny Depp movie, so it was funny to hear about it including his likeness now.

I took off 1/2 star for something at the end that felt too contrived for the sake of conflict. Muttering, "Yeah, right" and rolling my eyes is not the ideal way to approach the climax of the story. I thought the way the guys handled the contrived situation was great, so by the time the book ended I was happy again.

Reviewe on Hearts On Fire... http://heartsonfirereviews.com/

Ms. Gold spun a beautiful, uncomplicated and satisfying story here. Quinn Delaney grew up primarily in foster homes where he never learned the self-confidence and social graces that most of us pick up in our home lives. Standing at 6' 6" and being made fun of did not help Quinn's self-esteem either. Quinn's foster sister Stephanie is a travel agent who over books a singles' trip to Disney World and nags Quinn into going. Josh Hart is an out-going guy who was dumped by his boyfriend a month ago but Stephanie manages to book him on the singles' vacation. Quinn is sure that he is going to have a terrible time and Josh keeps getting hit on by all the wrong guys but things turn round as soon as the two men spend some time together. I really liked both Quinn and Josh each with their own insecurities and hang ups. Living near Orlando, I don't think of Disney World as a great vacation spot but it worked well for Josh and Quinn because of all the distractions that filled in awkward times. The plot flowed well and was a very straightforward romance story with no angst or arguments. Both men seem very vanilla so even the sex was smooth flowing yet exciting to them. If you are looking for a sweet, feel good romance story, this is the book for you.

Oh, love at Disney World!!! This one has the fun two people can get when you're in the "Happiest Place on Earth". Quinn Delaney is a shy big guy (literally, he's six foot seven) and he always feel uncomfortable in social ocassion. While Josh Hart is more outgoing and friendly. But they get along really nicely with one another, Josh brings out the fun inside Quinn and Quinn gives Josh comfort and protection ... and the ending might not be full-closure HEA but it gives so many happy promises.

This was a super sweet story about Quinn, a big ole shy softy coming out of his shell when he meets the right guy, Josh, on a singles vacation he gets roped into taking by his best friend. During this time, there are numerous jackasses hitting on them and basically bullying Quinn for his size, etc. and acting worse than a bunch of school kids. However, Josh realizes pretty quickly how potentially special Quinn is, and their budding relationship journey makes for a really sweet, easy going read.

I thought this was such a cute book. I loved shy and awkward Quinn and funny, outgoing Josh. I thought the premise was a great one (going on a singles trip) and the drama of having to go on "dates" with the other annoying guys was funny at times. Great book but I would have LOVED to know more about these guys after the cruise. Sequel would be very nice...

Every once in a while, a really nice story comes along. It has all the right elements, characters that are kind, interesting, sweet. A story line that isn't filled with angst or cheap plot twists, rather a simple but well written snapshot of two lives that collide at just the right moment. A hopeful, happy ending that fills you with the sense that there really are people in this world, who meet, fall in love and live happily ever after. Sometimes, in a right moment, kismet happens and a little book sends you off into your day with a renewed sense that all can be very right in this ofttimes dark and lonely place we call our world. Well, meet kismet...meet Quinn's Hart by Cassandra Gold.

Quinn, the quintessential giant of a man, a gentle heart, that has been repeatedly abused by a drunken father so many years before...a shy yet sweet man who is merely trying to make it through his life without too much sadness is pushed into going on a singles trip by his friend/travel agent Stephanie. While on the trip he meets Josh Hart, who is still reeling from being dumped by his boyfriend just a few weeks prior--by answering machine, no less. And so goes the story of these two men...as their week at Disneyland unfolds, so do their hearts...unfold and realign toward each other.

This is simply one of the sweetest love stories I have ever read. Gold's characters are not only gentle and kind to each other, they embody the spirit of people you'd like to have in your own life...friends that you'd like to walk beside and watch fall deeper and deeper in love with each other.

Yes, the story is well written. Yes, the characters are fully fleshed out, likeable, warm, friendly. Yes the plot line is believable, realistic in today's world. Yes, the sex is hot, sweet and just the right amount for a short little book like this.

In a time of reading novel after novel that leaves me restless and e=wanting just a bit more, I find myself pleasantly full, happily satiated and smiling...smiling as I close my kindle cover. So...Quinn's Hart...lovely, just lovely. Cassandra Gold? Well I have one thing to say to this author. Cassandra? You SHOULD quit your day job---we would like more please.

A cute little story set in Disney World with an adorably shy and awkward big guy.

I enjoyed the whole buildup to the romance. It wasn't an instant love-at-first-sight deal and both characters had time to get to know each other. The pacing was nicely done.

Certain scenes in the story felt overly exaggerated to create dramatic tension. Those scenes rang a false note with me and I didn't quite appreciate the story as a result.

A simple, straightforward love story. I think if you have gone to Disney World before, the setting would bring back fond memories. As for me, the details were fairly vague so I didn't truly feel I was at Disney World.

All in all, this was a really sweet, adorable read.

I may have been a bit harsh on this one the first time around ... I enjoyed the second reading and although it is still fluffy and a smidge saccharine, I'm adding another star for getting my monies worth ... I'd have to say that if you are in the mood for a light romance with minimal angst, this book will fit the bill.

Original review...★★

This was fairy-tale like in its depiction of situations, dialogue and character. The two MCs are basically women with willies. Having said that, the story is sweetly romantic. If that's what you're in the mood for, then you would enjoy this book. I found it a bit too fluffy for my tastes.
