A rambling memoir with some repetition at times and a great listing of names of fellow prospectors and partners at times. His racism is on show at times with the Chinese on the Palmer goldfields and his distrust of the native population. One can surmise from his writing that he was involved in the murder of members of various tribes in retaliation and so called pre-emptive strikes. Still, I found it an entertaining and enjoyable read covering the various gold fields and rushes Arthur was involved with. A different era. His inventive spelling in the letters he wrote to his brother, Frank, in the book's appendix are an entertainment in themselves.
