Prehistoric barrows were not only monuments to the dead but mounds for the living - making out land, defining pathways, acting as powerful symbols, and forming a major part of perceived landscapes which welded nature and human history together.
A highly informative and authoritative overview of the subject matter, I expect that this is a book I shall refer back to many times as I continue my own research. As is always the case with such works, the book suffers a little for now being a slightly dated, and I would greatly welcome a revised edition in the future.
