After a lifetime of pain and suffering, Laina finally gets the courage to leave her abusive uncle and sets out to start a better life in a new town. Only she never makes it there. Caught in a perilous snowstorm, Laina wakes to find herself in the home of the infamously cruel vampire known as ‘the Devil of Rellington’. The well-dressed, well-mannered, and devastatingly handsome vampire seems more gentleman than monster, but Laina learns the terrible truths of his past are painfully real. As Laina struggles to overcome her own tortured past, she discovers that something is very wrong at Rellington. Something that begins to affect the owner of the castle himself, putting her in more danger than she realizes. Caught up in her growing desire for the enigmatic man, a shocking discovery makes Laina question everything she thought she knew about the vampire who is not only a danger to her heart, but a danger to her very life.
Really loved this Vampire romance. It had familiar tones of a 'Beauty & the Beast vibe with a dash of Pride and Prejudice.
"Varon was a vampire. Known not by his name, but as the 'Devil of Rellington'.
Laina, desperate to find a new life away from her abusive uncle, has no other choice but to flee everything she knew and run toward a new future of her own making. Caught in a blizzard and bleeding to death from the attack of a pack of beasts, she finds herself in the warm walls of Rellington Castle, under the care of Varon Rellington, a vampire. Fearing for her life, Laina fights against the myths of the monster and the man she sees before her.
"He was nothing short of beautiful, the way a wild cat was beautiful as it surveyed its prey."
Definitely recommend this read and can't wait to see more from this debut author. Also purchased the paperback for my collection and would love to dive into Rellington Castle again as I cozy up with a warm fire and bottle of whisky.
Meh. Overall this was a really really good concept for a story line, I just wish there was more to it. The pacing was way too fast it almost made it unenjoyable. Like this is over what, a two week period? One day Laina is all “he’s a monster I’m so scared of him I hate him I need to escape” and the literal next day she’s on some “ I need him so bad I can’t be without him”. What??? Okay cool I guess. If the book had been longer and the timeline more stretched out, I for sure would have rated it higher. I just can’t get on board with books that are so extremely fast paced.
How on earth does this book have 4 stars. The FMC might be one of the most annoying characters ever. I get the misunderstandings are needed to move a story forward…..but I got whiplash from her moods.
The writing style was actually good.
The plots were not. I know it’s a novella, but you don’t build in a mysterious illness and then it is just gone.
A cute fast-paced Romantasy novella with a beauty and the beast-esque plot with vampires. Characters kept me intrigued throughout the story. It was a quick read, I do wish it was a bit longer to flesh out character development and the plot.
Love a good vampire romance. This was a quick, enjoyable read for me. I needed a break from my usual darker romance.
Laila had been raised by her uncle who had a penchant for punishing her for ridiculous things. He was a violent, angry man. She decided she had enough and left one night during a snow storm. She got way off her path though and found herself hunted by a pack of creatures. She awoke in a castle with a strange man. She knew he was different as soon as she saw him. Was she her savior or captor?
If you are into vampire romance this book is for you. It is kind of a slow burn. Read triggers as there are mentions of abuse. I enjoyed this book. Definitely recommend.
It wasn’t what I was expecting, especially the beginning but it was better!
Laina (the fmc) pov has run away from “home”, to start what she hopes is a better life. She runs with little to nothing and straight into trouble. Varon ( the MMC), ‘The Devil of Rellington’, a cruel vampire, and Laina is his new “guest”.
From the very beginning, I was interested, especially with the Ravkore part, that I couldn’t put the book down.
After what Laina goes through with her uncle you see her build herself up, not a very dramatic change where she's suddenly a bad a$$ but to the point she won't just sit there and take it. If that makes sense. Varon is a hard nut to crack, which of course made me curious and the more of his walls Laina gets through the more I started to like him.
The slow build-up to not only learning about both characters but the trust between them was so satisfying.
If you want a slow burn, spicy, beauty and beast vibes, vampire romance standalone this is definitely for you!
Completely fed up with her uncle’s cruelty, young Laina flees one night in hopes of finally escaping the hands of his abuse. After being chased into the woods by a pack of wolves, she is rescued at the last minute by a mysterious entity and looses consciousness. When she wakes up, she’s greeted by a handsomely beautiful stranger who turns out to be the subject of a local dark urban legend. While reading this book, I did get some major Twilight vibes and I even thought of Renfield at times too. The relationship that develops between Varon and Laina does remind me of a damsel in distress sort of thing but it develops into a dark romance with a happy ending. The font and print used in this book really give the story a gothic feel, which is like putting the cherry on top of the cake. Overall, I think this book is best suited for those who enjoy vampire romances!
Side note, I love how Laina has a special relationship with the moon. It’s beautiful that she can look up to the only light that is surrounded in darkness and use that inspiration to motivate herself.
If you’re looking for a spooky season book this definitely needs to be added to your TBR! Rellington gives beauty and the beast vibes with vampires and I was enjoying every page! He is a short read (under 230 pages) but it’s sooooo good! I devoured this story. The mmc and fmc figure out they’re not so different after all. With a gothic setting mixed with passion, and ambience, a nice cello/ piano playing in the background adds to the story and makes you feel like you’re watching a movie play out! Pls check your triggers, but uggghhhhh one of the few books I wish I could read for the first time again 🥰🥰🥰
Fantastic story-telling with new takes on classic tales and tropes. Laina and I are most definitely similar creatures with fantast sass and stubbornness. She is a fantastic heroine that we all would look up to. Fighting her way through her fears and overcoming what (not long ago) would have debilitated her makes her shine as bright as the moon she looks up to.
A perfect debut novel for an author that is sure to be creating even more incredible stories. I cannot wait to read whatever comes next!
Even though this was a 3 ⭐️ read for me personally….I think this book would be a solid gothic romance if it were longer. I liked the concept and plot. However, due to the length, we didn’t really see the characters fall in love, which I would have liked. It was just a little too instalove for me. A full length novel would have also provided more opportunities to flesh out the characters and explain the mysterious illness, which was kind of vague.
All this is to say, not a bad book. Good ideas but I truly think making this longer would make for a good vampire romance standalone.

I devoured this book in 1 day. I love the journey varon and Lania went on. The wording and world building was done perfectly especially for a short novella. I was obsessed with the character growth for both the FMC and the MMC as they realize they are worthy of love and happiness. The ending was amazing and Nicole please let me we get more I will never get over this book.
Overall I enjoyed it. I found the beginning a bit rushed and some moments unclear, but loved the fun and games section and the romance. My only gripe with this book is that I felt like there wasn't a low enough low before the climax, and so the end of the book blurs together. However I enjoyed this more than I expected.
I absolutely loved this and was so happy Laina found happiness. I found this author on TikTok from her new writer tips videos and added it to my TBR. I could not even tell she’s a new writer because I LOVEDD her writing style. Everything was phenomenal! I don’t usually enjoy slow burns, but this was written so well that I didn’t even mind!
I really enjoyed the fast pace of this book. Something was always happening to keep you engaged. I liked the characters and it gave van helsing vibes. Not in the story but the general vibes.
