Sacramento native, August Watson is angry. No, strike that. August in filled with the kind of incandescent rage only the righteous can possess.
Someone killed his girl. Not just any someone, but an enigma of a man called Daniel Quinn. Quinn wants to destroy August and is willing to target everyone in the paranormal investigator's life to achieve his aim.
Why?
No one knows. Not even August.
Until he can locate the object of his murderous intent, August focuses his fury on another – the so-called Vampire of Sacramento.
Hiding in the shadows, California's latest serial killer is stalking their next victim. It’s not August’s job to stop them, but he’s going to do it anyway.
He needs someone to pound on. Someone he won’t feel bad about hurting. Whatever you do, don’t get in his way.
A product of Small Town, California, Alex Gates is a loving husband, skilled educator, true Gryffindor, dragon-slayer, wizard of the highest order, defender of the realm, Cowboys fan, and connoisseur of cheap beer. He spent four years at California State University, Sacramento studying literature, watching football, and day drinking before obtaining a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Southern California.
This book was bad. Just bad. The series started out great but quickly went downhill. The first few were clever with great stories and twists, and this one moved right into gory horror that just made zero sense. The characters are all going downhill too. They all started as characters you loved and cared for, but August is making the same.mistakes with women, Fred doesn't bring anything to the table now, Maya is annoying and self absorbed. Unfortunately I won't be getting the next one. Its a shame because the series started so well.
August Watson has his hands full. Not only is he and his team chasing a Vampire; he is also chasing Golems. There is a ton of interaction with his team and the "noise" becomes overwhelming at times.
The story is great, the characters great, and we meet monster hunter characters from previous UK investigations.
It was just too busy for me and I kept getting lost in the story. Transitions were way off. It took me awhile to get it all sorted. That's why I gave it 4 Stars instead of 5. Still worth the read, but not one of my favorites.
This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series! Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
A continuation of the Blue Moon Investigations Sacramento series with August Watson and his friends. Poor August had some horrible things to deal with because of his nemesis.
August is contracted by the police to investigate the vampire murders and also is investigating a possible Gollum abducting a young man.
I enjoyed this book and found it hard to put down. I am waiting for the next book to find out what happens next.
Unlike Steve Higgs earlier works based in the UK, these stories are more violent and blood thirsty. The characters are also quite often mirroring those in Tempest's stories. Alas no dachshunds, but a meddleson mother and henpecked father. After all the other books I read/listen to which are more graphic, for some reason these disturb me. It won't stop me from reading, but I really prefer the UK version.
And it ends on a cliffhanger- Lots of really creepy weird criminals, with disgusting crimes for the team to investigate. The characters are fascinating and I did enjoy this quasi paranormal story, but it has a recurring bad guy, and multiple unexplained disappearances and I dislike cliffhangers.
Undead Dread, Blue Moon Sacramento, Book 4 by Alex Gates and Steve Higgs is great! This series just keeps getting better. Great characters with great backstories. And the strange situations that August keeps getting himself into are so interesting. A different take on the standard detective story. You will enjoy this story.
Holy Moley! The tension just keeps building in this story. In fact, I wasn't certain my heart was going to keep beating til the end. Two awesome cases at the same time with a time limit before a dozen people would pay the price. Really the most terrifying!
Really getting into the characters now, the story is fast paced with just the right amount of tension to keep me interested but not anxious. Can't wait for the next instalment
Characters are building nicely in this spin off to Bluemoon series , this Bluemoon is set In Sacramento and the main investigator is Gus , he has his own reasons for proving the paranormal exists .His coworkers and friends help him out on cases not unlike Tempest’s setup
Sacramento is having a rash of otherworldly occurrences. August is hired to find a vampire and a golem. A young woman is killed, and those involved are dying. Others are being exsanquinated. How can August sole these cases?
This is another horror story written with little sympathy for the characters tortured by human monsters. The writers continue with spelling and grammatical errors. Maybe if you're into horror movies, referenced throughout, you will enjoy part of it.
Ooooohhhh wait! seriously not ready for this one to end!
I actually had to put this down and walk away a few times when it got really intense! So many things coming together at once. Thanks for the ride and cliffhangers!
If you enjoy reading about strange characters and murders, this is a must-read! Undead Dread has a good plot and rather interesting characters. Good entertainment! I thank the authors for the ARC.
Alex Gates stories are frightening. Drawing a bit from other stories, he nonetheless creates mesmerizing figures and keeps you on the edge of our seats.
It you are expecting a supernatural novel, this isn't it. Another set of mysteries with come nice character developments. I am not sure it the series will stay strong as it is somewhat predictable but it still works as a quick read.
