This feels like it starts in the middle of a story. I guess it does. There is a 1st and 2nd book in novel form that I have not read. I feel like you can't jump in without reading it. I felt like I missed a lot of stuff. The story is short and quick. They just start to build when it was over.
The art is peppy and upbeat, just like Janet's writing. I can tell that Janet penned this, it has her crackling wit and the energy between Alex and Hooker is Classic Janet.
It was good enough to read the second one and it didn't really strike me as being great. I might have to read Motor Mouth and the other novel to see what is going on here.

Really quick and easy to read, but the story kind of ended abruptly and did not end how I would like it to. But over all, it was a good book.

Overall, this book was very adventurous and fun. "Troublemaker" had many clues and mystery beneath the text. Very good book for a graphic novel!

Als Krimi darf man TROUBLEMAKER nicht lesen, die Story ist nicht als typischer Krimi mit Spannungselementen angelegt. Im Vordergrund stehen Situationskomik, witzige Dialoge und Sprüche.
Die Artwork von Joelle Jones enttäuscht nicht; wie die Story kommt sie flott und witzig daher und setzt die Handlung ideal um.
Fazit: Flotte Unterhaltung mit viel Witz, aber an die Handlung sollte man keine großen Erwartungen haben. Die Story entwickelt sich in den ersten drei Kapiteln gleichmäßig und gut, aber im letzten Kapitel kommt alles zu einem überstürzten Ende, das unbefriedigend ist.

This book was a very quick and easy graphic novel read. It had some twists and turns through out it which made it more enjoyable to read. Personally I don’t really enjoying reading graphic novels, but I thought that the sporadic adult like humor in it made it less horrific. Overall it was a pretty decent book.

The parenthetical bit "(A Barnaby and Hooker Graphic Novel #3)" is a bit confusing. From what I gather, there are three Barnaby and Hooker series - Metro Girl, Motor Mouth, and Troublemaker - but as far as I can find only Troublemaker has a graphic novel form.
I do wonder to whom this book is aimed. This being the only Evanovich title I've ever read, I suspect it's meant for those who already follow any of the Barnaby and Hooker series, since the graphic novel doesn't do a great job at introducing the characters (it doesn't help that the two main characters, Sam and Alex, both have dual gender names), or explaining why Sam - I mean, no, Alex - continues to hang out with and go on escapades with (and...date, I think? Or...just pretend to date, maybe?) Sam despite her showing absolutely no signs whatsoever or anything less than hating his guts.
So, benefit of the doubt, perhaps someone already familiar with the characters might gain some appreciation from this GN. But I still wonder. At the risk of pigeonholing Janet Evanovich fans, aren't they mostly...oh, how should I say it... the demographic that generally speaking isn't interested in the comic book form?
Hopefully Troublemaker (GN) can get Evanovich readers to seek out more graphic novels (how about, say, the other illustrative works of Joëlle Jones? She's quite talented.), because it's not a good way to get graphic novel fans to seek out more Evanovich novels.

The graphic novel Troublemaker is the third in Janet Evanovich's Alex Barnaby series following two print novels - Metro Girl and Motor Mouth. I had no problem following the graphic novel without having read the previous books. The short character introductions were invaluable.
Troublemaker is wonderfully drawn. I enjoy graphic novels with clean lines and crisp colors over heavily shaded or unnecessarily complicated drawings and Troublemaker was absolutely perfect in that respect.
Book One of Troublemaker begins an exciting story involving voodoo and kidnapping. It was full of Evanovich's trademark humor and romantic mystery. The flow of the story story did feel a little choppy at times and felt short on words, even for a graphic novel.
Troublemaker: Book One consists of the first four chapters of the story, which is normal for graphic novels but may annoy Evanovich's print fans that are venturing into this media for the first time. Troublemaker: Book One is a fun read and is sure to attract many of Evanovich's longtime fans. It isn't quite as addicting as her usual fare, but it's a solid start and has good crossover potential.

This was a good book. It is full of action and problems. It all started off as Barnaby and Hooker at the race track. Barnaby was one of Hookers pit crew, I believe. Barnaby has a dog named Bean and he is a big part of this story. What happened, in the beginning, was that Rosa was kidnaped by a guy called Nitro. He is one of the worst people in the world. So Barnaby and Hooker had to work together to find out a way to get her back. Then later in the story, they have to get something back to the museum. But then Nitros gang of people helps Nitro. You would have to read this book to find out what was going on. I recommend this book to anyone who likes graphic novels an action/crime!

Not real sure what to think about this book. I'm not really into "graphic novels" and I really don't like getting into a story and then it ending. Very frustrating.
I prefer that she write books rather then "graphic novels".

A Janet Evanovich graphic novel?? And it’s on sale today only? I had to test drive it.
I enjoyed the graphics and the story wasn’t too bad, either.
But, I probably won’t be buying any of her graphic novels in the future.
One was enough for me.

I enjoyed the first two books of the series which I listened to on audiobook. I didn’t care for the graphic novel format. It seemed like it dumbed down the story and transitions weren't smooth.

Barnaby and Hooker are fun, the dog is a nice added bonus and I feel that Evanovich made a nice choice in choosing to use this franchise as the one she crossed over with. The artwork made the story pop and enjoyable, the pages were easy to read and flip through, overall it was nice to see the characters have an added dimension. I have read the previous two novels but would not have been lost or at a loss if I had not read them. This stood on its own from beginning to end. The plotline was truly simplistic, there is no earth shattering twists and turns, just the usual Janet Evanovich fun ,flair and frivolity. I like the three f’s when she does it right. This is book three of the series. It is a Graphic Novel. For those of you that don't know what that means, it is a big comic book. Unfortunately, this story has been getting a lot of bad reviews. It seems quite a few people were upset that the book wasn't prose. This is a silly reason not to like the story. It is the same style of writing but with pictures. Then I have also seen a review that said this had no business being a graphic novel. Again, this is just plain silly. Not all graphic novels have to be dark and have spandex wearing individuals bashing each other. This reviewer went so far as saying the male lead was a wimp because he didn't do more than wait for the female lead to like him. Strange but I never knew waiting on a woman that turned you down was a bad thing.
Now, I was not familiar with these particular characters, but I have read quite a bit by Janet Evanovich. I love her mix of mystery, humor, and romance. They are so good that I even managed to get my mom to read them and there aren't that many books we both enjoy so much.
This story had everything that I have come to expect from the author. Great characters in a fast paced and fun mystery where things tend to go wrong so often and still work out in the end.
I applaud Janet Evanovich and her willingness to try a new form of media. Personally, I thought they did a better job of adapting it to a graphic novel than they did with the movie. Still, I am happy to get a new story by her in any format.

This was truly terrible. I've read books by Janet Evanovich before, and enjoyed them. The problem in this graphic novel seems to be that neither Evanovich has any clue how to write for this medium. It's like they thought, "Hey, it has pictures! That's less work! We don't need a plot, or character development! They can see it all for themselves! In the pictures!" Just because a comic has a visual element doesn't mean you can slack off on the storytelling, ladies. Hooker and Barnaby are annoying and forgettable, and I was barely able to get through this volume. I don't even care enough about the little storyline that there is to pick up the second volume.
I will say, I did enjoy the artist's style, which is why I bothered picking this up in the first place. For that reason, I am giving this one star. That, and the fact that goodreads won't let me rate something zero stars.

A short, but a fun introduction to two of Janet Evanovich's characters, Alexandra Barnaby, aka Barney, an auto mechanic and race car driver Sam Hooker. When not working on and in a race car, these two pursue a relationship and whatever mystery comes their way. Basically romance novels with adventure and humor thrown in, which is Evanovich's forte.
This is a graphic novel, and it may not be for those of Evanovich's fans who aren't used to that medium, but tt made me want to go out and read the two novels in the series, Metro Girl and Motor Mouth.

Summary: Trouble seems to find Alex and Sam, wherever they go. Their friend Rosa is kidnapped by a practicing Voodoo priest and it's up to Sam and Alex to find her and solve the mystery before it's too late.
Response: I picked this up at the Scholastic book warehouse sale because I am interested in getting more graphic novels. I've read other books by Evanovich and it's very similar to her other books. The graphics were light and bright. Other graphic novels are really dark, visually, so this was a nice difference. Fun, simple, short.

Also...Janet definitely like using the descriptive wording of “rat face”.
The story ends with a car chase and Rosa, Barnaby and Hooker heading to Florida Keys in Hooker’s boat. I believe you need to read the second graphic novel (with the same title) to finish the story.

This graphic novel was the first graphic Novel I have ever read. At first I wasn't use to a graphic Novel style but once I got used to it the book started and turned out to be really good. It didn't take long to read at all and it was an enjoyable read. I recommend this book to anyone that needs to fill there graphic novel section or who just wants a quick good read. Thank you Mrs. Morgan for getting this book!!! :)

So awesome seeing some of Evanovich's characters come to life! I really enjoyed the first two books in this series so it was nice to revisit Miami, Rosa, Hooker and Barney- even Beans.
Fast paced, funny and well-drawn. If you like the Barnaby series you'll enjoy this.
Does end in a cliff hanger though.

Boy, this book was really dissed on Amazon. I thought it was kind of cute. I guess it was the art I liked best. Since I got it at the library, I didn't feel too bad. I'd hate to pay $18.00 for a comic book. I do agree though, that Evanovich books have been going down hill.

This has to be the funniest graphic novel I've read to date. There were times I was laughing so hard, I was crying. It's definitely worth reading!

This is the first graphic novel I have ever read and it was really good. For anyone who has not read a graphic novel, I recommend this as your first one. It was really good.

A very light story in the style of Stephanie Plum, except it's set in Florida.
A good reading palate cleaner between two weightier works (The Dream House and Real Life).
Art work reminded me, a little, of comics I read as a kid.
Was good to see both a known woman author and a woman artist collaborating.
Good but not great, worth a try but I won't really look out for more.

Comic Bento is a monthly subscription service for comic book collectors. It’s a lot like the Jelly of the Month Club. Only instead of a variety of jams to smear on your toast, you get several graphic novels to read. There’s theme-months, like Marvel Females or School Days. You can subscribe for one, three, or six months, as well as a year. You can enroll yourself or a friend could register you for a Bento as a gift.
Troublemaker by Janet Evanovich and Alex Evanovich was one such graphic novel I got from a Comic Bento my wife gave me. I’m not sure of the themes I got it from, but this was one of the books I unearthed. Saying that this one isn’t really in my wheelhouse is an understatement. I have never read a Janet Evanovich book before and until now, I don’t think I would have ever planned to.
This book was a graphic novel companion in Evanovich’s series of novels following the exploits of renegade mechanic Alex Barnaby and race car driver Sam Hooker. They solve crimes around the Miami area along with their giant St. Bernard, Beans.
In this opening chapter, a friend of Alex's named Rosa has been kidnapped. Normally, if Rosa disappears, it’s because she meet a guy and had a fling in Jamaica. But when someone tries to kill Alex and Sam, it’s pretty clear that this time Rosa is in real danger.
The investigation will take Alex and Sam to places best left unexplored: a retirement community full of NASCAR fans, the Everglades, and a nightclub where Sam’s newly cougarized mother is on the prowl. It's all part of the madcap fun that includes voodoo, strawberry milkshakes, and attempted murder.
The story ends on a semi-cliffhanger. There’s an acceptable ending but it also leads to a part two. I would like to get my hands on the further adventures and I am racking my brain as to where I thought I saw some of the books in this series. My local library perhaps?
This mystery was very funny with a sort of Moonlighting sexual tension between the two lead characters. There was some elements of Dexter mixed it what with this taking place in Miami. I wonder if the two were ever meet in a crossover- that would be awesome.
Great artwork by Lady Killer’s Joelle Jones. It was very clean and extremely expressive.
This is just another reason why I love grab bags or subscription services like Comic Bento (which act as a sort of grab bag.) The randomness of choice really opens me up to books and series that I otherwise would not have given a second glance at.
Troublemaker by Janet Evanovich and Alex Evanovich was one such graphic novel I got from a Comic Bento my wife gave me. I’m not sure of the themes I got it from, but this was one of the books I unearthed. Saying that this one isn’t really in my wheelhouse is an understatement. I have never read a Janet Evanovich book before and until now, I don’t think I would have ever planned to.
