Maggie and Shannon are figure skaters and sisters. But Maggie is really tired of Shannon always being in the spotlight. For once, Maggie is determined to come out from behind her sister's shadow. Can Maggie learn to shine, even when Shannon always seems to get in her way?
Who is Jake Maddox? Athlete, author, world-traveler–or all three? He has surfed in Hawaii, scuba-dived in Australia, and climbed the mountains of Peru and Alaska. His books range from the most popular team sports to outdoor activities to survival adventures and even to auto racing. His exploits have inspired numerous writers to walk in his footsteps–literally! Each of his stories is stamped with teamwork, fair play, and a strong sense of self-worth and discipline. Always a team-player, Maddox realizes it takes more than one man (or woman) to create a book good enough for a young reader. He hopes the lessons learned on the court, field, or arena and the champion sprinter pace of his books can motivate kids to become better athletes and lifelong readers.
I loved this book because it gave me inspiration to never be jealous and to never give up and that is important to remember and to keep in your mind. So I gave this book 5 STARS!
This is the first Jake Maddox book I've read. Solid sports story which will appeal to girls. Sisters Shannon and Maggie are both talented skaters with a serious case of sibling competition. A good lesson without sounding preachy. It reads easily and with some nice illustrations.
In no way is this a 3-star book in and of itself. I rated it 3 stars because I believe it would adequately serve the purpose of teaching children a simple lesson in a brief enjoyable context.
This is a short story for tweens or younger. It is basically a fable. It would be a good choice for a children's reading group or for parents to read with their children. The simple message is it's okay to be yourself. It's okay to do your own thing.
Two ice skating sisters have very different styles. One is graceful and the other is athletic. One girl is jealous of the other because she thinks the other girl's style is favored. Both kids perform their routines at a competition and both do well. Problem solved. And that's about it.
