An amazing, true story about their dignity, intelligence, loyalty and above all, compassion. When Eleonora is wounded by a poacher, her family brings her gifts of bark and leaves wrapped in their trunks. The whole herd link their trunks together and stand by her as she enters their hearts forever. A moving story about death and paying tribute to the ones we love.

This was another beautiful picture book. My friend lent me a collection of her favourites, and I'm taking a few minutes here and there to read them. This one's a keeper. It's a story from South Africa, and the illustrations are done in a collage format. It's a touching little book, and a wee bit sad.
