Babies love exploring the keyboard. Sit your child at the piano and pretty soon they will be banging on the keys, making just about as much noise as they can!
While this playing doesn't always sound very musically pleasing, it is a crucial part of learning the language of music. Just as children babble, cry, laugh, and squeal long before they learn to speak in words, your baby's experimentation on the keyboard will begin teaching them the phonemes and vocabulary that are the building blocks of musical phrases and songs. They will begin to discover the difference between loud and soft, high and low, what happens when they play many keys at once, or just one at a time. There is so much to discover!
The stories and songs in this book are here to help you guide your child in their exploration of the keyboard by As you play through these songs, try to use the hand techniques demonstrated oin the Songs to Sing and Fingerplays book, in particular, puppy paws, and chicken heads. And, as always, do your best to keep music time relaxing, frequent, and fun so your child will want to return to explore the keyboard again and again.
