Centauri Shock follows the journey of a young man's struggle for survival in the 24th century, long after the countries of Earth had settled their petty differences and united into one peaceful government. This unity propelled the human race beyond the boundaries of Earth, enabling them to colonize space as far as the Centauri System-a series of frontier-like planets resembling the lawlessness of the American Wild West mixed with the exotic beauty of Ancient Rome. The main character, Duke, is sentenced to life with hard labor and expects to be imprisoned elsewhere on Earth. Drugged and forced into an involuntary stasis, he awakens in the Centauri System on the other side of The Void-a vast expanse of space that divides humanity's two diverse civilizations. Duke's quest for freedom begins after realizing that he's been sold into slavery, over four light years from home.
