Doris 15: Antidepression Guide

Rate this book
Offering fun, real-life advice from someone who had dealt with depression, this guide doesn't treat it like a disease that needs to be hidden and suppressed with the latest trend in drug therapy. Instead, it acknowledges the condition by taking an honest approach.

I always enjoy Cindy's writing. Many years ago I shared her politics & world view, but I no longer do. I was was a very left-leaning liberal, but alas, not anymore. I have a hard time taking radical left wing people and writing seriously. I have many liberal loved ones in my life, so I know we can be radically different yet still be respectful of each other and still be friends & lovers. Having said all of that, I DO take Cindy, as well as some other punks & 'zine writers like Aaron Cometbus, Brian Inside Front/Crimethinc.,Alex Wrekk, Al Burian, Iggy Scam!, the 'On Subbing' dude, and Christy Road seriously.
I believe Cindy is honest and has good intention. I feel she loves her friends and usually loves life. She seems hard working, introspective, and creative and that all comes across in Doris.
God bless you all!

I really liked this zine. It's pretty short, easily readable, and packed with lots of practical information on handling depression, particularly as a punk/radical/"insert subcultural identity" that may be looking for answers that fall outside of mainstream capitalism's superficial approach to handling mental health issues. I appreciated the balance of comix and words, because my brain absorbs information differently and usage of both forms ensures that I will hopefully use those tips and advice in the future. (Particularly, in times of maybe high emotional stress when good self care methods can fly out the window).

There some awesome herbal recommendations that run the gamut from caffeine alternatives(so we can be the most productive happy souls around!), to dealing with UTI's (when you're having lots o' sex cause you're totally reveling the wonders erotic exchange with another).

All around engaging, useful, and makes me want to go out and buy a Hitachi right now. (Read it, you'll understand.)
