Definitely a must read book for anyone who wants to understand Nepal’s position in the global economy and the reasons for it. Growing up, we have been taught about our glorious history while addressing the problems that lie in the root of it and this book does exactly that!

The book gives a good account about the economic history of Nepal in line with political events. It not only discusses about the factors and events that created impediment for development of Nepal but also focuses on way forward to attain a progressive and prosperous Nepal.

I started this book with an expectation of understanding history of Nepali economy and it's future ; It was able to meet my expectation to some extent. Since this book was written in 2008, i read this book living in the future and correlating the present scenario.

This book is divided in to three categories; Before 1990AD , 1990-2008AD and After 2008AD. For someone possessing the basic knowledge of Nepal's economy, this book has provided me with useful information during Rana regime and Panchayat era. I especially loved the section where the writer presents his thought to unleash Nepal and process to move Nepal up the ladder of development. To my discomfort, this book would still give the same essence if it was written in 2020.

Probably the best book I have read about political issues dimming the economic development of Nepal from regime of Prithivi Narayan Shah to 2012.
The book is written with through research that highlights the points where it got wrong for Nepal in terms of economic development and what are future possibilities.

Thought provoked from book : "𝗗𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗡𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲-𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘂𝗻𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗡𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗹'𝘀 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹?"

This is a book I re-read about a month ago I guess but I hadn't gotten around to writing its review. Initially, I read this book 2 years back for an assignment so I bought it. This is where my journey of non-fiction began. It was truely eye-opening and insightful in so many aspects - from his overview of present scenario to our road to development. What makes this book special is it's an insight of our country written by our fellow countryman. This book explores the reasons behind 'Why is Nepal lagging in economic development?' by venturing into the past, present and the possible future state of our country. Despite this book being written about 7 years back, the context is still relevant today. After reading this book I felt sort of hopeless about the situation we are in but also hopeful about what we can accomplish if we try.

I got into this book not looking for a way to find success in my country. But to understand more about my own culture and history. And that is exactly what i got. I can proudly say that i know more about my country than i ever did. So this a must read for people who have grown in the age of the internet. The only thing i knew about my country before this book was "Prithivi narayan shah and the royal massacre" and not in great detail to be honest.
The book shows a long struggle of democracy in this country and how we are better off then we were in the 1990's. I was born in 1997 so i am one of the lucky few with privileges but this book helped me understand a lot about my own country. So a must read.
I am the kind of guy who reads everything in a book. So the start really bummed me out at first, with too many big words. But after i started with the main parts of the book it was really fun to read.

Good as an overview for someone who knows less about Nepal. Not quite enough for someone seeking deeper analysis.
