Stories from Joni’s life shine in this collection of gathered memories. Readers will recall quiet, out-of-the-way moments in their own lives when God was present―both in happy and sad times. Joni Eareckson Tada is an American evangelical Christian author, radio host, artist, and founder of Joni and Friends, an organization "accelerating Christian ministry in the disability community".
Listened to this while folding laundry. Two friends mentioned her books in their year in reading and I looked to see what was available on Hoopla. It was a perfect introduction to this amazing lady. Her spirit is so wonderful and what an encouragement she was to me. Loved her singing the hymns at the end of the chapters and loved that she ended the book with “Jesus the Very Thought of Thee”. I love that hymn and sang along with her. I will be reading more of her in the future Lord willing.
This is a lovely little book of daily devotionals, written by a woman who is a quadriplegic. She is someone who understands waiting, having to be patient, being still, and she writes about her observations and weaves them into Biblical truths. I especially liked the very last devotional, on how we get a little glimpse of heaven perhaps, in those childhood memories where we felt peace, bliss and had carefree days... Another amazing part of this book was the illustrations. Despite being paralyzed, Joni Eareckson Tada sketches. With a special pencil she holds in her mouth. Her drawings are throughout the book- something I marveled at and enjoyed almost as much as the writing.
Finding God in Hidden Places: His Presence in the Pieces of Our Lives Joni Eareckson Tada
This little devotional is full of encouragement and sweet reminders of God’s nearness in the ordinary moments, the deep trials, the joys, and the relationships that shape our lives. Joni shows, through her own stories and reflections, that nothing in our days happens by chance. Every moment is lovingly and purposefully ordained by our Lord.
I’ve always appreciated Joni’s steadfast faith and the joy she radiates even in profound suffering. Her life is such a testimony of surrender and dependence on Christ. In this devotional, she invites readers to see God’s hand in the details, to rest in His sovereignty, and to trust Him in both the quiet and the hard places. It’s a gentle, heartfelt reminder that the Lord is present and working in every piece of our lives.
*I received a copy of this book for my honest review.
These brief essays offer a personal look into the life of this courageous author who has been paralyzed from the neck down for forty years. It's food for deep thought for believers in Jesus Christ as Joni is. They would also serve as an eyeopener to unbelievers who have yet to experience the joy of walking with Jesus. Six sections show how God can be found where we least expect Him, in people, in hidden places, where He's needed most, and in humility. The final section shows clearly that God is no long hidden. Some familiar hymns of the faith are interspersed here and there to re-enforce Joni's messages. Hope Irvin Marston, author of RISING FROM THE RUBBLE: THE RESTORATION OF BOLDT CASTLE.
Finding God in Hidden Places - Each chapter tells of true vignettes. Easy to read, practical, down-to-earth read. It's amazing how Joni shows God hidden in the most unexpected places and situations. Beautifully written. Spiritually inspiring. I highly recommend this book.
She brings you into her world as a quadriplegic and it is as if she lives in space. Some parts of this are so piercing, so perceptive, so honest. It's as if the book is reading you. There's chapters I didn't care for-but there's a handsome compensation in many others.
Without a doubt, Joni is one of my most favorite authors. Her readers soon feel as if they know her personally as she openly reveals her life as a quadriplegic. Words of wisdom and insights come tumbling forth like a refreshing waterfall from almost every page as she shares numerous lessons she has learned in her close walk with the Lord. Though confined to a wheelchair, Joni is definitely not confined. She is an author, a sought after conference speaker, an artist (using her teeth to hold and direct her pencil), a wife and the founder of "Joni & Friends". She also started a ministry where prisoners restore old wheelchairs which are then given to desperate people all around the world. Joni is surely a "keeper" and so are her timeless books.
My wife and I read this as a devotional covering one each night. Although I really enjoy Joni Eareckson Tada's books this devotional was a little disappointing. Each entry is an episode in her life in which she sees God at work. Too flowery and not down to earth as most of her other works. It did connect my wife and I to God and to each other in thought and prayer though.
This book is a fantastic read. It is divided into short chapter stories. In the beginning, I planned to read one chapter a day. By the end, I was reading at least 3 chapters a day for the encouragement.
Pretty good book had some interesting parts for me. I think each person that reads it will find at least 1 thing in it that is helpful for them or is something they want to remember
