When her ex-husband, Lake Tahoe lounge lizard Vince Marina, turns up dead, Connie stands accused of murder and is counting on Freddie O'Neal to catch the real killer
SETTING: Nevada SERIES: #2 RATING: 3.5 WHY: Freddie O’Neal is hired as a bodyguard to singer Vince Marina whose ex-wife has tried and failed to kill him. After a scary incident on a private plane, Freddie moves into full investigative mode. The story is set in the world of casinos in Reno and Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Freddie comes to believe that someone other than the ex-wife is the perpetrator. Freddie is a very guarded woman; there’s some interesting chemistry between her and the new bodyguard, who seems to be working at cross purposes. Good characterization and a believable plot.
3.5 I am enjoying this series. I am listening to the audiobooks. I found the series by doing a search on a reader that I like (Stephanie Bush), and of course I think the reader likely adds to the experience. If I was pressed to suggest a series of similar quality, I would probably say Sarah Paretsky. (Similarities end there.)
SING A SONG OF DEATH - VG Dain, Catherine - 2nd in series
From Reno to Lake Tahoe, P. I. Freddie O'Neal searches for the killer of lounge singer Vince Marina and his pal with only the motive of Vince's ex-wife Connie's anger to go on. Freddie believes in Connie and risks all to prove it.
This tightly written mystery never loses its focus. This is the 2nd book in a very enjoyable series.
If you like mysteries and live in (or enjoy) Reno-Tahoe-Carson City, Nevada, you will enjoy this series. The main character, Freddie, is every bit as quirky and cocky as Stephanie Plum and really a lady as well... Loved this book and series!
