As the daughter of a disgraced and destitute noble family, Lady Coralie Roberts faces a bleak future. With their home set to be seized and no prospects for a good marriage, she must find a way to turn her fortunes around. But a chance encounter leads to a revelation that could change everything.
Anthony Triskelle, along with the other Phoenixes of the Four Cardinals can feel the song of the leylines that weave magic throughout the land. But the rise of the Ascendant, a mysterious and potentially dangerous figure, threatens the stability of the land.
When fate throws them together, when everything is threatened, can they navigate through the danger to find a future?
The summary had sounded quite interesting until I opened the book and got to reading. There was a smidge of plot but the wordage was just a bit unbearable. I did finish this as it was under 300 pages and was rather a fast paced book. Minimum Plot - a lot of spice (not great imo), but it was interesting enough for me to finish it. But could I tell you what exactly happened, not really? It was such a blur and really not that memorable that I don't remember what I had read once I had finished it.
This is a six book series and needless to say, the first didn't interest me enough to pick up at least the second one through kindle unlimited. It was entertaining, but it's a no for me dog.
It's a unique story with a plot that I can honestly say I have not read before (and I read a lot). A world unlike and other, be prepared for some world- building along the way. I can't say whether the book is more of a romance or drama, it does have hints of both.
The RH scenes are more PG-13 and vague then R and steamy. It does have this "I want a HEA" vibe to it. Will see where it goes from here.
I purchased the book after reading the sample, and I regret it
The dukes are a pathetic bunch. How did they ever obtain their titles? I was looking forward to adventure and and our FC developing and growing her power, but no, instead she jumped from bed to bed trying to satisfy the needy dukes
1: there is nothing in this description that would suggest this is a reverse harem book. This could have been any other duke and duchess novel with some magic thrown in there. I was hoping for that, actually. 2: there are a lot of spelling and grammatical mistakes. 3: there really is no plot, it's just sex and not even well described sex either. If you're going to make the book all about sex then you have to at least go into detail. 4: this book didn't need four men because at no point was she 'with' all four of them at once. I assume that's in a later book.
Trite pablum. You ever read a book with a sense that it has to get good at some point? The Phoenix Dukes is a book that has potential to be a good story, if the writer had bothered to include anything besides immediate falling in love without any true attempts at connecting characters on a personal level, sex, and absolutely no conflict whatsoever. There is a random throw-away villain that is never explored. This was an idea of a story that ended up being a glorified pornographic template instead. The writer can do better. The reader certainly can.
DNF - I thought this book sounded interesting but dropped it after the first spicy scene. The main character appears to have no personality outside of her duty to her family and now husbands. There is no pacing for the relationships. What was presented as the first inklings of plot was resolved in the first pages and no other conflict really rose to take its place and I just couldn't make myself read a whole book of that.

This book is more smut than substance. And mediocre smut at best. I love a good smitty novel as much as the next person, but I do wish there had been more drama, action, intrigue. And the smutty scenes could have been better written. They felt repetitive. When a character is with more than one partner, I prefer to see the different types of relationships that come of it. Also why did we only get the pov of ONE of the dukes? What about the other 3?

I love a good fantasy book and have never read a book about phoenixes, so I was intrigued to give this book a try. It took me a little while to get used to the style of writing and the proper speech from the time-frame the book is written in. Still couldn’t put the book down though, it had me hooked by chapter two. Overall, I think the author does a great job with her writing. I would have liked a little more back story of the world she had created and maybe a more thorough editing job.
I absolutely loved this book it was so unique and adventurous. I loved the old world feel and the way they talk. Their powers so unique and unlike any book I’ve ever read. Loved the relationship she had with the guys and how they work together. Amazing book. Highly recommend.
Good start to the book definitely got me hooked. Would have liked more world building to give some insight to what is going on. Nice mix of magic and Victorian era.
