Canadian Spies: Tales of Espionage in Nazi-Occupied Europe During World War II

Rate this book
During World War II, some of the most treacherous jobs were those performed by men and women located deep within enemy territory. Always in danger of being exposed and subjected to torture, imprisonment, and even death, their stories are chilling accounts of bravery and luck--and, in some cases, what happens when the luck runs out.

Eight short chapters were a quick read of endeavours and escapades of thnse trying or helping downed military personnel escape occupied France. In addition to the courage shown and willingness of French households to aid escapees it retealed early ineptness on parts of British organizers clumsy mistakes made trying to evade capture. Many resistance groups were given away by collaborators. As many French resistance were killed as those that they helped get away.

A book that tells a few of the adventures of Canadian solders / spies during World War II.

I could see this becoming a TV mini-series in Canada, ala "Band of Brothers"

A great little book exposing some Canadians who worked for British intelligence and French resistance fighters during the Second World War. Stories that are not often told. Many of these Canadians parachutes into France where they helped rescue and return to Great Britain allied fliers that crashed or were shot down in occupied Europe. Heroes all of them as they faces certain torture and execution if caught by the Gestapo.

It was ok. But most of the stories are already found in more thorough works. The tales here are in some cases contain a bit of hyperbole.
