24 books452 followersAndri Snær Magnason is an Icelandic writer, born in Reykjavik on July 14, 1973. An award winning author published in 40 languages. His most recent book is On Time and Water - a book seeking to explore the issue of time and climate change through language, mythology and memoir. Andri has written novels, poetry, plays, short stories, essays and he has directed documentary films. His novel LoveStar was chosen as “Novel of the year” by Icelandic booksellers, it received the DV Literary Award, The Philip K. Dick special citation Award of 2013 and won the french Grand Prix de l'Imaginaire as best foreign Sci-Fi in France 2016. His children’s book, The Story of the Blue Planet, was the first children’s book to receive the Icelandic Literary Prize and has been published or performed in 35 countries. His first book of poetry was a runaway best seller published by the Bonus supermarket chain in Iceland. The Story of the Blue Planet received the Janusz Korczak Honorary Award 2000 and the West Nordic Children’s Book Prize 2002 and the Green Earth Honor Award 2013 and the UKLA Award 2014. The play from the story was performed on the main stage of YPT in Toronto in 2005 and 2013. He has been active in the fight for preserving the delicate nature of Iceland, his book Dreamland: A Self-Help Manual for a Frightened Nation takes on these issues. Dreamland has been made into a feature-length documentary film. Andri Magnason is the winner of the Kairos Award of 2010 granted by the Alfred Toepfer institute in Hamburg. His most recent documentary films are The Hero's Journey to the Third Pole - a bipolar musical documentary with elephants and Apausalypse, available on the website of Emergence Magazine.

podjednako prikladna za djecu i odrasle, slikovnica koja na šaljiv način progovara o ozbiljnim stvarima: o važnosti brige prema prirodi i jednih prema drugima. dijete više odavno nisam, ali dobro mi je došla kao upozorenje da pripazim da mi srce ne postane ni kameno ni čelično.

Nə vaxtsa bir uşaq kitabına rəy yazdığımı xatırlamıram. Güman ki, onları ancaq uşaqkən oxuduğum və həmin vaxt fikirlərimi paylaşacağım məhdud bir çevrəm olduğu üçün. Həm də o yaşlarda kitablar mənim üçün, əsasən, başqa dünyalara açılan qapı, ən ucuz (bəzənsə pulsuz) səyahət gəmisi idi. Onlar haqqında tənqidim olacaqdısa da,"sıxıcı" və "maraqlı" kəlmələrindən artıq söz bazasına ehtiyac duymazdım, hansı şəkildə dəyərləndirəcəyim isə ilk qapının ardınca neçə qapı açmalı olacağımdan, gəminin yanacağının məni nə qədər uzağa aparacağından asılı idi.

A seemingly whimsical but pithy children's tale from Iceland. The words "ecology" and "message" might conjure up notions of something worthy but creatively stilted but nothing could be further from that prospect here.
An exciting adventure as well as an eternally relevant fable. I loved it.

This was a cute book for kids. It teaches many lessons that all kids should learn about being selfless and caring for other people. The two main characters learn through experience that getting everything they want ends up causing pain to others. The illustrations were the right amount to keep younger kids interested but not enough to be considered a picture book. I think this would be a great book to read to a child before bed for several nights.

Патиштата со оваа книга ни се споија неочекувано и интересно. Од сета лавина на книги во книжарата, сфаќаш дека убаво е на миг да ги оставиш очите да ти поталкаат и прошараат наоколу се' додека не ти се појави "книгата"; на која ќе и' се радуваш по патот накај дома. Еден од многуте моменти кога срцето како да ти прескокнало едно отчукување.

Но, сепак, книгата е извонредна! Се спомнуваат голем број игри за деца, понови и постари; прекрасни описи на Сините планини, описи на она што на децата им причинува најголемо задоволство, радост и уживање. Трчкање по ливадите, набљудување на облаците, шлапкање во морето, восхитување на школките, и искачување на планините. Што да се каже освен дека секој нов ден им станува се' поинтересен и поинтересен.
Бојан и Хана се најдобри пријатели кои што не' учат на добро, на емпатија, на простување, на вистинско пријателство! И тоа во секое поглавје! Без разлика на препреките и тешкотиите кои им се појавуваат на патот, секогаш се сплотени, и така фатени за рака, стекнуваат дарба како да го направат животот поподнослив на децата од другата страна на планетата.
п.с. Бојан и Хана се љубители на Сонцето, експерти во заштитата на екосистемот и во внатрешната чистота. А, ти, читателу, спреми се да бидеш посипан со пролетна прашина и да се чувствуваш слободно додека леташ и истражуваш!

Na jednom predivnom plavom planetu žive samo djeca. Dane provode u igri, družeći se i lutajući po prirodi, uvijek u smijehu i zabavi.
A onda na planet, nakon dugo, dugo vremena, sleti netko nov - i odrastao. Njegovo je ime Sretnislav i on ima rješenje za sve, a stigao je kako bi djeci ponudio zabavu kakvu još nikad nisu iskusili. Iako su do tada bila i sretna i bezbrižna, djeca rado pristaju isprobati nove oblike zabave koje im Sretnislav donosi. I to za cijenu od samo jedne male, majušne trunčice njihove mladosti. Tko ne bi pristao na tako sjajnu priliku?
Sjajnu novu zabavu često kvare raznorazne neprilike, no Sretnislav, čini se, uvijek u rukavu skriva baš pravo rješenje za svaku od tih neprilika. Ali, kada jedna od tih 'neprilika' dvoje djece slučajno
udalji od njihovog poznatog otoka, djeca će polako spoznati da postoji i druga strana njihove vječne zabave, i druga cijena koju je ostatak planeta bio prisiljen za nju platiti.
Nagrađivana priča o plavom planetu na kojem žive samo djeca vješto je ispričana priča o važnosti brige za okoliš i brige za druge usmjerena za najmlađe, ali i sjajno prikrivena alegorija tih tema za one malo starije.
U prenesenom značenju, ova priča sjajno opisuje kako se većina ljudi iz nevine djece, uz pravi poticaj, vrlo brzo pretvara u bespoštedne i egoistične odrasle, usmjerene samo na vlastito blagostanje. U neku je ruku ona vrlo realan prikaz nastanka konzumerističkog društva gladnog zabave, bez obzira na cijenu koju za tu zabavu moralo platiti.
Iako zna biti i pomalo mračna, ova je priča sjajan primjer djeci, koji ih uči da nije sve u igri i zabavi, da ne treba brinuti samo za sebe, već i za druge i za svijet oko nas. Ona ih uči brizi za okoliš, međusobnom uvažavanju, solidarnosti, suosjećanju, održivosti i odgovornom ponašanju, sve to upakirano u jezik i situacije koje će djeca bez problema razumjeti.
Ako postoji slikovnica koja je apsolutni must have na polici za knjige vašeg djeteta, rekla bih da je to ova. (Bila bi, doduše, još bolja bez batinanja malih tuljana, koje je dvaput spomenuto. Znam, znam, islandska tradicija i činjenica da se radi o hrani, ali ipak sam dojma da bi savršeni sretni svijet na kojem žive samo djeca možda bio još malo bolji kad u njemu ne bi bilo ubijanja životinja, pa makar i za hranu.)
Mislim da je važno klincima prezentirati što više ovakvih priča, koje veličaju prijateljstvo, solidarnost i empatiju, i prikazuju što se dogodi kada umjesto ovih osobina naše ponašanje preuzme pohlepa, egoizam i okrutnost. Ovo je originalna, lijepa i važna priča, koju je doista bitno ispričati. Knjiga koju bi svako dijete trebalo imati u svojoj kolekciji. A i odrasli. Uz ovakve priče, vjerujem da će više djece izrasti u male Grete, a manje u male Donalde. :)

‘The Story of the Blue Planet’ is based on the premise of a planet that is solely populated by children. Untouched by modern life, the children love exploring the natural wonders of their world until one day the ‘space monster’ aka Mr Goodday arrives and convinces the children that there is so much more than their ‘boring’ existence. Goodday explains how he can enable the children to fly and provide eternal daytime by nailing the sun to their side of earth in exchange for some of their youth. Two children, Brimir and Hulda then get lost in flight and end up on the dark side of the world, where the kindness of the children who have been living in the dark strikes them. On their return to their side of earth, they report to the others of what they found, explaining how they must restore the earth to its natural state but the children are too distracted in flight and Goodday proposes a vote, which leads to ideas of ownership, greed and war. Finally, after having given all their youth in exchange for the ability to fly, the children realise their greed and work toward re-establishing the planet as it was before, emphasising the importance of community, friendship and putting things right.
Translated from Icelandic into English in 2012, this story has much to say about caring for the natural world, but its content can easily lead to exploration of other subject matter. Its detailed descriptions of earth would aid children to build their science and geography vocabulary, particularly regarding the earth’s topography and the solar system. The story also invites potential areas for creative writing for example “what would you do on an earth without any adults?” as well as lots of opportunity for artistic explorations of the landscapes described.
This book could be enjoyed by children in KS1 and KS2 with lots of discussion topics for 7 to 11 year olds. It has short chapters and could be a great class read, with lovely descriptive passages and an intense and exciting plot. The story addresses difficult themes in a child-friendly way, inviting lots of questions to pose to pupils about what it means to be human and what happens when we don’t think of others and the earth.
I highly enjoyed reading this book and thought a great element was the inclusion of poetry and books in a survival pack from the children on the dark side of the planet, demonstrating the importance of storytelling to humanity.
Translated from Icelandic into English in 2012, this story has much to say about caring for the natural world, but its content can easily lead to exploration of other subject matter. Its detailed descriptions of earth would aid children to build their science and geography vocabulary, particularly regarding the earth’s topography and the solar system. The story also invites potential areas for creative writing for example “what would you do on an earth without any adults?” as well as lots of opportunity for artistic explorations of the landscapes described.
This book could be enjoyed by children in KS1 and KS2 with lots of discussion topics for 7 to 11 year olds. It has short chapters and could be a great class read, with lovely descriptive passages and an intense and exciting plot. The story addresses difficult themes in a child-friendly way, inviting lots of questions to pose to pupils about what it means to be human and what happens when we don’t think of others and the earth.

Grāmatas pamatā ir interesanta ideja par to, ka pasauli pārvalda bērni un ka saule ir nozīmīgākais resurss, kuru piesavinoties vieni dzīvo mūžīgos priekos un izklaidēs, kamēr otri cieš no tumsas aukstuma un bada, pretējai puses par to nemaz nenojaušot.Līdz kādā brīdī vismaz diviem bērniem no Saules apspīdētās planētas puses liek nojaust milzīgo problēmu, uz kuras rēķina viņi ir paudījuši saules un taureņu putekļu nodrošinātos lidošanas priekus. Tas liek bērniem rīkoties un cīnīties par taisnību virs zemes. Jā, idejiski ļoti, saistoši, tomēr man grāmatas valoda nelikās veiksmīga, teksts nelasījās viegli, īpaši domājot par to, ka grāmatas mērķauditorija ir bērni. Arī viena no galvenā varoņa vārdiem latviskā versija Prieka Jautrītis, man nešķita simpātiska, īpaši tāpēc, ka pats tēls ir ļoti savtīgs, un egoistisks. Ticu, ka grāmata lasās labāk oriģinālvalodā, kuru diemžēl nepārzinu.

Mér þótti alltaf vænt um þessa bók þegar ég var barn. Það var gott að lesa hana aftur. Hún var ansi hryllileg á köflum sérstaklega þegar maðurinn ætlaði að saga hjartað úr barninu…
ég hefði viljað að hann Gleði-Glaumur hefði haft betri draum frekar en að vilja vera kóngur?? Og hann fékk það i guess.. en hefði það ekki hittað meira ef honum langaði bara í knús? Ég bara spá

The NY Times made this sound better than it was. Brimir and Hulda are close friends living on a small world where there are only children and no adults. Everything seems fine until an adult arrives via a spaceship and changes the dynamics of the place, causing wants and deprivations that never previously existed. When things get really bad, Brimir outwits the adult, playing to his own vanity.

Orvels bērniem. Un pieaugušajiem, protams. Pasaka par to, kas notiek, ja tiek izjaukta lietu kārtība, ja noticam ārējam spožumam, ja neiedziļināmies, bet paļaujamies uz viegliem panākumiem, par melošanu, sirdsapziņu, par visu cilvēcīgo. Pasaka par to, cik viegli zaudēt bērnu mūsos. Cik labi, ka tas tomēr arī atgūstams.

Реших да прочета забавен детски роман, но се оказа същинска приказка, както посочва заглавието на книжката. Има си всичко: поука, приключение, вълшебство и… деца, които правят каквото си поискат. Колко родители могат да се уплашат от последното, се знае предварително, но пък историята далеч не иска да повдигне самочувствието на хлапетата. „Приказка за синьото кълбо“ („Ергон“, 2017, с превод на Айгир Сверисон) е сладка като захарен памук, затова поотрасналите деца ще се чувстват малко не на място сред страниците. Смисълът да се прочете и от тях обаче го има. Магнасон ни среща с дилемите на живота, когато правилният избор е прекалено важен, за да махнеш с ръка и да продължиш по най-лесния път. Тук целият свят е представен по достъпен за малките начин, без да се бяга от сериозните проблеми на съвремието ни. Всъщност по някои въпроси се говори от десетилетия, но засягането на определени интереси пречи да бъде изведено генерално решение. Направи ми впечатление и примерът за консуматорското общество, предаден по прекрасен начин. Тук намират място опазването на околната среда, приятелството, егоистичните подбуди и най-вече слабостите на системата, когато свободата е разбрана по изкривен начин. А сега, след това разяснение, ако ме попитате дали тази книга действително е детска, отново ще кажа „да“, без да се замислям. Това е приказка, а децата обичат приказки.

Vakaros lasīju bērniem. Nezinu, cik veciem bērniem īsti paredzēts šis islandiešu autora stāsts. Septiņgadniece laikam vairāk priecājās par "čurājošajiem aitiņmākonīšiem" un līdzi juta bērniem un dusmojās uz Prieka Jautrīti (kuru es gan visu laiku dēvēju par Prieka Jurīti 🫣☺️). Ielika 4🌟Vienpadsmitgadniekam patika saturs un beigas, tomēr grāmata neesot viņa stilā (joprojām nezinu, kas tas viņa stils tāds ir un pats arī neatklāj 🤣🫣), rezultātā ielika 3,5🌟
Esmu droša, ka visvairāk no šīs raibu raibās grāmatas saprot mammas un tēti 😊 Tādi jau tie cilvēki ir - nekad nav gana labi, vienmēr vajag vairāk. Piesolot zelta kalnus, mūs var apvest ap stūri, bet beigās paši paliekam muļķos un zaudētājos. Paralēles var vilkt arī ar Planētas ekoloģiju un postu īslaicīgas laimes/baudas vārdā. Par manipulāciju ar cilvēkiem. Paldies Dievam, vienmēr ir kāds visu redzošs un cīnīties/pat uzupurēties gatavais. Un viltīgai gudrībai šajā pasakā arī sava svarīga loma! No sākuma nevarēju pieņemt valodu, pierasts pie literārākas valodas. Ilustrācijas arī dikti ņirbošas, neierasti, bet, ja ieskatās, tur vesels kosmoss. Laikam man šī grāmata paliks zem apzīmējuma "jocīga" 😆

Lielāko grāmatas daļu es nesapratu, kāpēc vispār ko tādu lasu. Brīžam likās neskanīgs tulkojums, bet nezinu par oriģināla valodu. Nu tiešām likās tāds sviestains stāsts, bet tajā pašā laikā radošs, kas arī noturēja uzmanību. Un tad nu nāca grāmatas beigas un tā palika tik interesanta ....

Šī grāmata uzspridzina iztēli. Es neesmu fantastikas cienītāja, man šajā grāmata bija krietni par daudz nerealitātes. Bet zem šīs ciku cakainās fantastikas segas guļ īstas, ārkārtīgi vērtīgas un dziļas pārdomu pērles. Nez vai bērni tās sajutīs - līdz tiem noteikti nonāks atziņas par "draudzību", "rūpēšanos par citiem", "par līdzsvaru pasaulē" utt., bet pieaugušajiem tur paredzēts kas vairāk. Katram pēc nopelniem.

Hayallerimize giden yolda yürürken içimizdeki çocuğu genç tutmak zorunda olduğumuzu Magnason çok güzel işlemiş. Hayalleri gerçekleştirmeye çalışırken insanın kendinden fedakarlık yapmasının onu önünde sonunda üzeceğini, çocuk yüreğinin o temiz sesini susturmamak gerektiğini anlatan kıymetli bir eserdi. Yediden yetmişe herkese önereceğim nadir kitaplardan biri oldu. Kitaptaki çizimler de çok tatlıydı. Kitabın içerisinde okuyucuyu yormadan çok önemli konuların altı çizilmiş. Sorumluluk duygusu, doğa sevgisi, doğanın insan yaşamındaki önemi, kendi karakterini koruyabilme, vicdanın sesini dinleyebilme, aklını doğruluk için kullanabilme hatta sistem eleştirisi gibi ağır konular incelikle hafifletilmiş. Ayrıca İlk kez İzlanda edebiyatından bir eser okudum, başlangıç güzeldi ve devamının geleceğini düşünüyorum.

I loved this book. It was the first children's book to win the Icelandic Literary Prize, and I'm glad they decided it was worth it. It's a charming book, full of wit, wisdom, and warning. It deals with some very heavy topics, such as the ecosystem and war, but he does so subtly, with humor for young ones and an under-layer of sadness for older peeps. Magnason successfully manages to contrast lightness (focusing literally on butterflies and rainbows, not to mention children learning to fly) with darkness (such as greed, power mania, hacks, ignorance/willfully wiping other people's problems under the rug). It's all wrapped up in a book meant for kids to love, and I reckon they would. Oh, and I need to mention that the illustrations are phenomenal!
Here's a couple good bits:
Brimir and Hulda strolled along the beach, dragging the sack behind them, wiping out their tracks in the sand. They looked out over the sea and the black sand in the bay with the palm trees where they were going to skin and cook the seal. They collected logs, lit a fire, and grilled the seal in one piece. When they had eaten their fill they sat in the sand and watched the sunset. Then they lay on their backs and watched the stars grow brighter as the darkness grew blacker.
"I think this was the best and most beautiful day of my life," whispered Hulda.
"Yes, it's even better than the second-best day I've ever lived, which was yesterday," said Brimir.
"What did you do yesterday?"
"Nothing special. I just felt so happy," said Brimir, smiling. "Life keeps getting better and better."
"And the butterflies are coming soon," said Hulda, glowing with happiness.

"There's as much happiness in the world now as there was previously, it's just been readjusted. We get just a bit MORE happiness, and the children on the other side of the planet get just a little less happiness."

"How much does a bomb cost?" shouted the children.
"It will cost one heart per person to throw a bomb," said Jolly-Goodday.

"It's impossible to throw bombs if you have a normal child's heart in your breast. As soon as you throw a bomb it becomes either a stone heart or a steel heart."
"And how would that change us?"
"You won't grow any bigger and you won't get any smaller, but if you get a stone heart your life will be much easier, you won't even need to have friends."
"What about a steel heart?"
"Then you'll never be bored and never be happy and won't need to have feelings anymore. Men with steel hearts never cry."

Piedzīvojumu pasaka, kas caurvīta ar mācībām, kas bija skaidri saprotamas man, taču mazie klausītāji (6 un 4 gadi), šķiet, dziļākās domas vēl no teksta vien neuztvēra - tās centos paskaidrot. Tomēr pats stāsts ar savu brīnumaino pasauli, piedzīvojumiem un izmantoto valodu (dažubrīd tāda bērnu/ jauniešu leksika, kas bērnus uzjautrināja) bērniem patika un tika gaidīts katrs nākamais vakars, lai uzzinātu, kas notika tālāk.
Uz Zilās planētas dzīvo tikai bērni, kas nekad nenoveco - mūžīgas rotaļas un draudzība, reizi gadā pasaulei pārlaižas tauriņi, kas ir brīnums, ko gaida visi. Ar to pietiek. Līdz brīdim, kad uz salas avarē kosmosa kuģis ar pieaugušo, kas piedāvā vairāk, kas galu beigās izrādās mazāk, pretim prasot tikai nedaudz bērnu jaunības, tad vēl mazliet, tad vēl drusciņ, līdz bērni noveco un planētas dabā zūd līdzsvars. Planēta ir jāglābj, taču tas prasīs attapību un sirds gudrību.
Brīnišķīgs stāsts, par līdzsvaru dabā un, kas notiek, kad tas tiek izjaukts. Tāpat par to, vai mums tiešām vienmēr vajag vairāk?

I was involved in acquiring this book while I worked as a line editor, so again, BIAS. But it's great -- if you're familiar with a book called The Yeggs and the Yahbuts, think that. A spacefaring con man named Jolly Good-Day shows up on a planet of eternally youthful children and starts selling them magic powers and "improvements" in exchange for years of their youth, which he will use as rocket fuel. Yes it is a rank allegory but it's a completely magical one, with lots of giant spiders, dangerous voyages, forcible robot conversions and butterfly catching. It has one of those great G. K. Chesterton EVERYONE IS A WINNER conclusions, also, one that makes me imagine kids reading this and growing up and knowing exactly how to handle horrible political situations. It's really, really worth a look.

This is a book for adults disguised as a children's book and a children's book made for adults.
While I am aware that I probably just said the same thing twice in the most pretentious way possible, hear me out.
The basic storyline and vocabulary could easily understood by a first grader. If you're looking for a book to stretch your literary limits, this is not for you. However, the deeper themes in the story are what make the book worth reading at any age. The Story of the Blue Planet explores what it means to be part of a society and care about other people, what contributes to a satisfying lifestyle, and the importance of preserving the biosphere.
It is the balance between writing for children and writing for adults that keeps me coming back to this book and I highly recommend it for people of all ages to read over and over again.

"When the butterflies wake up in the cave and follow the sun. That’s real fun because it’s the most beautiful thing that ever happens in the world".
This children's book that falls within the eco-lit genre, is a beautifully translated cautionary tale. A group of children live simple lives on a blue planet, appreciating what nature has to offer. Then an adult man invades their space and innocence is lost in favour of gimmicks and fun. That has its price. Lying, collaboration, greed, among other themes, are looked at in this simple, short tale . I love the language, it is very poetic.
