I read this because Abraham Verghese, who is one of my most favorite authors, (Cutting for Stone, In My Own Country, The Tennis Partner) wrote the forward and it was through him that the author met his partner who is an absolutely remarkable woman! Mahlon Johnson became infected with HIV after doing an autopsy on an AIDS patient. This is the story of his experimentation on himself to save his own life and thereby the lives of other HIV infected people. Brilliant man!
