Please Write Back is the story of Alfie, who writes a letter to his grandmother one day. He goes through the process of writing and mailing his letter. First he writes it. Then he puts it in an envelope and addresses it to his grandmother. Next, Alfie puts a stamp on the envelope and puts the letter in the mailbox. Alfie waits and waits for his grandmother to send him a letter back, but he grows impatient and begins playing in the sandbox. One day the mailman stops by for Alfie, with not a letter, but a BOX! Inside the box was a letter from his grandmother and a big batch of cookies!

Please Write Back is an ideal book for K - 2nd grade students. Kindergarteners will enjoy this book because they can read it themselves, and they will know enough words to be able to write their own short letter. First and second graders will be drawn to this book, because they may learn the steps to writing a letter, which to a young child is still exciting even in today's technologically driven society. I would implement this book in my first grade classroom by reading the story and then discussing the necessary steps to writing/ mailing a letter. We would then write a letter to people in our lives. This lesson could be used at many times throughout the year as the children could send birthday cards, Christmas cards, Valentine's Day cards, etc. In whatever letter they write, though, the necessary steps would be reviewed to accompany the book and Alfie's actions.

My Review: This might have been one of the cutest kids book I have seen in quite a while. It will make a big impact for Munchkin since his Grandma lives so far away. The story is simple and great for really early readers. The illustrations are also completely adorable.

In a world of email and instant response a waiting for a letter in the mail is agonizing. Little Alfie writes to grandma and says "please write back" and he waits and waits and waits bugging the poor mailman. The pictures of him bugging the mailman are hilarious! Does Grandma write back? You'll have to read the book and see!!!

My son loves this Alfie character. He would act out what he did in the books (both Please write back and may I have a cookie please).
