I obtained “I Wonder Why Trees Have Leaves” at a gift shop with second-hand books for charity, amid Manitoba’s vast cottage regions. Published in 1997 by Englishmen Andrew Charman & Tony Kenyon; I was surprised and impressed to discover that it is not a typical children’s flora science book. It is presented in such a special way, that it is enormously educational for all ages. A fantastic array of questions are posed and answered about trees, leaves, photosynthesis.... with trivia about unusual trees and facts. These paragraphs are clear, short, and drawn colourfully with great humour. No child or grown-up would find it difficult to absorb, nor boring in the least.
The reason this unique book makes stimulating education for everyone is because along with clarity and brevity, the proper vocabulary is used. It is advanced enough for grown-ups and accessible to kids at once. Further, the content is a rewarding surprise. You would think the items comprised the most common, basic questions. Well, I am a plant-lover and gardener, for whom nearly all this book’s information is new! I have familiarity with some topic areas. However, it seemed like Andrew phrased things from less-discussed angles, or extended detail farther than I have ever seen books about trees go. I always champion originality, creativity, and elucidation conveyed in a pleasant manner; thus this book easily received five stars from me. I am happy to tell friends about it.
Living in a forest as I do, I loved learning exactly how tree roots use, store, and release water. What I was stunned and excited to discover, is that leaves are always multicoloured! They merely appear to be green in the summer! I have a niece and nephew for whom this information about nature is ideal; except that I value having it!

This book breaks down the business of trees to the simplest terms this is an excellent book to have in a classroom library.
