This book didn't bust my buttons the way that this author's 1600+ page commentary on Luke did. It's not his fault; he complains in the preface that he asked the good folks at Anchor Bible to do a two volume commentary on Acts like he did on Luke. Alas, that was not to be and the book suffered for it. You should not read this book without also having the Luke commentary in front of you, because the author frequently refers back to it. In addition, the method of handling the Western Text left a lot to be desired. Yes, one can reconstruct a Western Text translation by painstakingly applying the short sections appended to each section of the Alexandrian Text translation noting the differences between the two, but ideally parallel columns with two different translations would have been very nice. But, hey, what can you do in a mere 864 pages? Fortunately I found a translation of the Western Text here which does the job, albeit this 1923 translation is quite dated.
This was a very good book. It is about the apostles, mostly Paul, on their journey's. Since Jesus has risen into heaven it is up to Paul and the other apostles to spread the word of God to the world. On their journey they have many struggles, but since God is on their side they get through it all. Multiple times they are in jail, but God frees them every time. They travel all around the middle east preaching God's word. They get many people to believe in Jesus and they baptize people too. I recommend this book to anyone who believes in God, or anyone who wants to see how much good God can do. I give this book five out of five stars because it is about my faith and it really happened, through God and his apostles.
The Acts of the Apostles is a great book in the bible. The book mostly focused on Saul who's name later changed to Paul. The book talked about how Paul changed and turned around his life to follow in God's way. It also talked about his travels and what Paul went through. There was many good quotes in here that are good to follow. If you want to learn more about Saul/Paul and about God's way you should really read this book in the bible.
The acts of the apostles is all about Saul{Paul} and his journeys. It is a really good spiritaul book. It teaches you how far you can go for God. It also teaches how to debate with other religions. I give this 5 stars because it happened, and it seems like an impossibility to do all he did. For example, he went everywhere from Athens, to Antioch.
Have used this commentary now on two different passages, and have found this commentary extremely helpful. I have read and interacted with Fitzmyer before, so I am not surprised.
