Interesting story with a definite BDSM theme. It's short but quite hot and the world created by the author really caught my attention. Sci-fi themed stories aren't my usual cup of tea but I found this one enjoyable and worth reading.

Mr. Jessman was the Chief of Computer Research and Development for Megalli-Loran Corporation (MLC). As of three months ago he was recruited by NeuroTech. NeuroTech is paying him much better and supplied him with the best and safest liiving arrangements. He has the newest in personal environmental maintenance and personal security, Environmental Control and Security Unit - NeuroTech EnCoSet 2400. Jessman lives in artificial sunlight from overhead lamps, as the environment outside, sunlight and air pollution are to dangerous. He’s still suspicious that MLC hasn’t retaliated. No one could get to him as he lives behind bullet proof glass on the 58th floor of the NeuroTech Corporate Enclave.
Tonight he waits for a visitor, one that he hired and is suppose to be the best. The anticipation is great as he doesn’t know if male or female will arrive. When he’s notified by security he is surprised at the gunwhore that arrives. With a gun on his hip and gorgeous cornsilk colored hair with tiny silver bells, this beautiful boy must be a mistake. Gunwhores were hired from Liberty City FreeZone the lawless part of the city. The only way to survive the FreeZone was with: fists, feet, knives and guns.
When Jessman and the gunwhore come face to face, Jessman decides to play the game. But he doesn’t know what he’s in for when he finds himself in a strange place and the gunwhore watching over him. What does this gunwhore have in store for Jessman and will he survive?
Michael Barnette creates a dark theme, strange dystopian world, erotic short tale with “Zoner”. Erotica and BDSM aren’t what made me curious about this book it’s the way way the author worked it into this unique tale. Because this is a short story I don’t want to give too much away. I do like what the author has set up for these two character and I can’t wait to read more.
There’s all types of interesting items discussed in this story: cosmetic enhancements,
implanted optics, thoughtware port, simvideo, cyber-enhancement, the Sweet Sisters and Pleasure & Pain, Gunwhores and more fascinating ideas.
I myself found “Zoner” to be intriguing and I’m ready for the second book in “Through Neon Eyes” series “Control”.

Interesting sci-fi world but less steam than I expected
Maybe I became a picky reader lately, but I couldn't enjoy this one as much as I expected. It was recommended to me as a really steamy, kinky read, but I wasn't that intrigued by it. Maybe I was too distracted by the sci-fi world that the author created, which was actually interesting, but it killed the passion a bit for me.

Changing jobs to a competitor's company has never been so dangerous when the penalty is death. In this cyberpunk story, Jessman is a high level asset for MLC. He's been kidnapped and acquired by competitor, NeuroTech. While he did resist the aggressive recruiting by fighting back, he was still overpowered and now works for NeuroTech. Working for NeuroTech definitely has many benefits which Jessman is now used to and enjoys. Unfortunately, MLC's SOP is to rehire him back by "retro-actively de-hiring" through the anti-personnel team.
Mr. Barnette's world is not for everyone. There isn't a full back story, which forces the reader to guess and make assumptions as to how his world works. For some people, this is off putting. For me, it was interesting. The short story kept me on my toes trying to figure out the terminology and the way of life.
Intermingled with the sketchy story, Jessman and Bell meet. Bell is a gunwhore hired to protect Jessman. In this world, a gunwhore is the best of both worlds, he guards and he supplies sex. Mr. Barnette designs Bell in a lusciously dangerous way. I specifically use the word "design", as Bell has been enhanced in many ways. The lust between Jessman and Bell is palpable. The predictable double twist in the plot was anticipated yet still tasted as sweet when it unfolded.
This short story reminds me of some of the Japanese anime I'm so fond of watching. While I was confused for parts of the story, I was left wanting more. I recommend this story to others who enjoy cyberpunk mixed with a dash of Japanese anime and a smattering of hot m/m sex.

And interesting take on the future with one of the rich guys captured by a cybernetically enhanced criminal for hire. The criminal then proceeds to have some BDSM fun with his victim and makes a counter offer, his life in exchange for a job. Didn't really do it for me, but sci-fi is not really my thing.
