When the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression plunges America into despair, a previously little-known but charmingly charismatic politician rides into the White House on a mantra of ‘Expectation and Transformation.’
What will be the ultimate price to be paid for massive government bail-out programs and an ever increasing level of government intrusion into American lives?
As Biblical prophecy unfolds, nationally-syndicated radio host and political commentator Tom Beckett senses that all is not as it seems; that the story behind the story is much more complex than most Americans imagine.
But even he is not prepared for the sinister forces he encounters in the world of ICON. His life, his family, his nation and the world stand on the brink of the abyss.

The synopsis of the book didn’t ring quite true for me… I found it a hard book to read and I didn’t really relate to the characters or situation… a bit of a disappointment…
I usually love the Thoene's writing but this was not nearly as good as their other books. I almost quit about one fourth of the way through because it was pretty slow, but it did get more interesting after the halfway mark. A couple things just didn't make sense to me, like they just had to force things to fit. Eg. Refusing the offer of the tow truck driver to use his cell phone, instead having him drive them 45 minutes to use a pay phone. Tom so careful to not be seen that he hides in freezing water all night and then sits there on the pay phone without even keeping a watch out and doesn't notice the SA truck pulling up. Their historical fiction seems so well researched and attention paid to details that I couldn't believe it was the same writers
Very interesting book! It's scary to think that the events could actually come to pass in our country. As usual, the Thoenes do an excellent job combining history, fiction, and a little bit of romance.
Fabulous book! This book seems to reflect, fictionally, much of what is happening in the United States today. One can only hope that we do not really follow the path that the story portrayed! An absolutely wonderful read!
I could not put this down - really - started yesterday, had an event last night and started again this morning - even missed church. Looking for the sequel Effigy - but can't find it. Any help out there?
Very entertaining. Lots of interesting facts underneath the story. It is a wake up call to all who love America and the God who blessed us to be able to live here.
Great book. The similarities with recent events are somewhat frightening. It reminds one of how quickly the gift of our freedoms can dissipate if not carefully tended by the entire American people.
