Rhianna Lancaster has always been "different"--and not in that quirky, small-town Texas way. Nope, Ria's unique qualities are downright bizarre, which is why she tries to keep them to herself, thank you very much. So maybe she should be glad when, out for a run, she encounters a guy even weirder than she is--not to mention naked as a jaybird. . .
What Ria learns from this "Prince Kristor" person is that he's an alien sent to help her get in touch with her powers and rescue her from a mortally unfulfilling life here on earth. Good to know. Also good to know the local law enforcement, whom Ria calls after macing Good Prince Naked and running for her life. Problem is, she can't stop
"Her books are funny and romantic with the perfect blend of spice!" --Gena Showalter
Karen Kelley always had a secret desire to live the life of a Gypsy. So she and her husband quit their jobs, sold their house, decluttered their lives and moved into their 5th wheel RV. Now they're traveling the United States. She works full time on her writing and spends her downtime walking on the beach or hiking in the mountains. Her motto has always been 'Who says you can't have it all.'
The Falcon Prince is the second book in Princes of Symtaria series. I found this book to be an enjoyable fun read. This story takes you a little deeper in the Symtaria world than the first book. I found this one lacking in a few areas. I just never felt the passion between the hero and heroine. It was always them saying; the hero I am taking you home, then the heroine no I am not going. This arguing goes on throughout the book, it drove me crazy at times. Then there is the abrupt ending where the heroine is all of a sudden ready to go. What? UGH! I wanted more.
Now, let’s get to the basics. The sex is really hot and Rinanna and Kristor are very enjoyable to read, even without the passion. I also liked Rinanna friend Carly, she added a lot to the storyline.
Ria owns and works at a dog groomer, with lots of clients. Everyone in town thinks she is crazy because she has a voice in her head that she is always talking to out load. When she comes across a naked man in the woods that tells her he is from another planet, everyone wants her to go to the doctors in Dallas so she could get help (she should have keep her mouth shut lol). Then she finds out this stranger has the same voice in his head and that Ria needs to let out her hawk animal side or Shintara will die, the thing is, can she do this with her scared of heights?
Pros: With so many dark, edgy works out there, I enjoy something that's just light and fun once in a while. I liked the tone of this book, and I really loved that there were hawk shifters, which is a shifter type that hasn't been done as much. I also thought the book started well, and the last thirty pages were the best part.
Cons: What hooked me into buying this book was the fact that it was a blend of sci-fi and shifter romance. Ironically, that's the part I wound up liking the least. I felt like this book could have been a lot stronger if it had either been about aliens or about shifters. It sort of lagged in the middle for me.
This is the second book in a trilogy that I hope the author writes more of. They can be read as stand alones but I prefer to read in order as think it adds more to story. I have recently started reading this author and find her books to be full of humor. She does tell the story from both characters point of view which I think add to this story. Aliens, shifters and throw in a guy that doesn't see the problem with being naked who could ask for more. A cute story that will go on my keeper shelf as one when need a good book with humor will want to pull out and read again.
3.25/5 I enjoyed the majority of the book. I liked the main characters and the setting of the book. I felt the antagonist was weak and there really wasn't enough time to set them up to be truly menacing. And then the book ended. This was an issue I had with the first book in the series, but it was not nearly as glaring. The two main characters finally solidified their relationship and the curtain closed. What happened with everyone else? The best friend? The obnoxious Ex? The antagonist? The parents? Will the main characters ever return to visit? Nothing. And this was jarring to me.
Setting: small-town Miller Bend, Texas; New Symtaria
Theme: thought to be crazy, but in fact an alien (a parent from another planet); being more than thought; falling in lust/love; small town living where everyone knows everyone’s business;
Characters: ‘Ria’ Rhianna Lancaster: abandoned at an orphanage as an infant; raised by wonderful loving parents; has a real voice in her head – but others concerned it is an indication of craziness; affinity with animals; opened own pet grooming shop; quirky, independent; out of sync with others;
Shintara: hawk guide who has never been freed; a separate, distinctive voice in Ria’s head who doesn’t hesitate to speak up; but dying, as she has never been freed; interested in the new guy in town;
Mother/father: wonderful parents who love and support their quirky daughter;
Carly: Best friend: frumpy, only girl of large family and encouraged to stay frumpy; Ria is her only real friend forever; throws in a few wrenches between Ria and Kristor because of jealousy and fear of loss, but when sees their high regard for one another, she is fine; finally allows a Ria makeover, and is quite happy with the results – and finally standing up to brothers; open when Neil, her high school crush, asks Ria to find out if Carly would be interested in dating him… which gives Ria the chance to think about leaving with Kristor;
Exboyfriend: Ria’s ex, too straight laced and sneaky, calls immigration on Kristor, plants seeds of discontent with best friend; an obstacle for the couple to overcome.
Sheriff Heath: responds with civility and good natured teasing to Ria’s reports of a naked man in the forest; and later when she reports a break-in, and it’s Kristor
Prince Kristor: Warrior; sent by queen / mother to bring / protect half breed Ria home before rogues find and kill her; cautioned by queen to be gentle and persuasive – not just to snatch her;
Labrinon: hawk guide; companion; what the Symtarian is supposed to be;
Summary: Though speed bumps along the way, Kristor and Labrinon need to learn patience and gentleness in dealing with Ria – and they come a long way; Ria and Shintara need to learn to become companions – and Ria needs to learn to fly through Shintara, and then she needs to accept her feelings for Kristor and be open to his planet.
When push comes to shove, and Kristor is taken by an immigration officer who knows enough of aliens to hunt his kind and study/destroy them – Ria realizes her love for him, and turns Hawk (in front of parents, best friend, and town sheriff) so as to track and rescue Kristor (who was bidding his time to escape).
Memorable scenes: An unbelieving Ria, whose heart wants to believe in magic, sits in the park and tries to shift to a frog (why a frog? She remembers her childhood pet, it’s a non-threatening animal, it’s humorous)… and then some boy scouts want to boil her for dinner, and then a randy teen who’s girl isn’t succumbing to his kisses dumps his soda and ice on her.
The animal guides’ outspokenness.
Kristor arguing with himself and Labrinon about just tossing Ria over his shoulder, and taking off in the space ship… and at first it is just his mother’s request he persuade, but as he comes to admire her spirit, he wants to her to want to go with him.
Invited to join in the holiday football game – he’s excited at prospect of a battle, then appreciates it as a training exercise… and the game is attended by more because word gets around on how he looks without a shirt.

The Falcon Prince. Karen Kelley. 2010. Brava. 276 pages. ISBN 075823838X.
The Falcon Prince is the second paranormal romance novel in Karen Kelley's "Princes of Symtaria" series.
Rianna Lancaster is a small-town Texan dog groomer who has always had a special connection with animals. In addition to this special "gift", Rianna has always heard an alter-ego voice in her head that challenges her to be more adventurous and daring.
When handsome and sexy Prince Kristor materializes out of the fog to rescue Rianna from her boring life, she learns that she has LOTS more in common with Prince Kistor than she initially expects. The two embark on some crazy experiences together as Rianna discovers more about her powers and background.
While The Falcon Prince carries light humor of the chick-lit variety and provides readers with numerous visuals of Kristor's sexiness, the plot as a whole lacks intricacy. The novel prepares us for more to happen than what actually takes place; specifically regarding details on Rianna's inevitable planet-hopping and a conclusion around some actions taken by her best friend Carly to annihilate Kristor.
The verbiage of the featured sex scenes in The Falcon Prince are quite repetitive and would have been perfect had they been more descriptive and unique from one another. Given Rianna and Carly's characters are twenty-eight years old, Carly displays immaturity in being childish and jealous about Rianna and Kristor's developing romance. I'm sure this trait is more common in small towns from a protective standpoint, but this too is repetitive coming from Carly throughout the book.
The Falcon Prince is great for paranormal romance fans needing an entertaining release for a few hours. Readers who enjoy this book should also seek out its predecessor entitled The Jaguar Prince and should look out for The Wolf Prince being released later in 2010. The Falcon Prince will be released in August 2010.

Small town Texan Rhianna has known from a young age that she is different from other humans. She doesn't realize how really different she is until she runs into a stranger in his birthday suit out in the woods. So the adventure begins. Karen Kelly's book “The Falcon Prince” delivers Sugar and Spice all wrapped up into a fantastic bed time novel. Awesome job Karen! I really enjoyed reading “Falcon Prince” and I loved all the side splitting humor. I laughed all the way through the book. I highly recommend this book.
Meh, more of a 2.5. It started out ok - h out for jog, bird lands in front of her, changes to nekkid man, she maces him, runs home, and calls cops. Alas; that was pretty much the highlight of the story. The smarmy bastage wormed his way into her parents' good graces, was constantly demanding she drop everything and go home with him, etc. And her... For a woman who didn't let her last boyfriend get past kissing, she sure seemed to have no self control. Yeah... I just have a hard time believing that.
Much like I have a hard time believing that she'd just forget about her family and best friend to leave with him at the end.
I was disturbed by the government agent's comments about people who didn't know what they were. That's just sick.
Fun read - the hero [100% alien guy] wants to take the heroine [partially alien girl unaware of the alien part and ticked off by being referred to as an 'impure' because of her mixed heritage] back to his/their planet. For her own good of course, not just because he wants her and knows she's his lifemate. She's definitely not buying what he's selling, accept himself of course. I liked her trying to get him addicted to junk food so he'd stay...
Book 2 in the series, books can be read out of order. It's silly and charming and somewhat absurd... Princes of Symtaria 1. The Jaguar Prince 2. The Falcon Prince 3. The Wolf Prince
