Afraid of the Water is an exciting series of books about dangerous and possibly deadly creatures that live off land. These books are filled with stunning photographs and interesting facts of about these unique and dangerous animals that inhabitant of our planet.

Did you know that the Blue Ringed Octopus weighs less than one ounce yet has enough venom to kill 10 people? While I was reading this book I was bothered because of what I thought was the inappropriate plural that was used for octopus; I always thought it was octopi. Since I have faith in this series and its author, Natalie Lunis, I googled to see if I was wrong and this is what I found:

There are three plural forms of octopus: octopuses [ˈɒktəpəsɪz], octopi [ˈɒktəpaɪ], and octopodes [ˌɒkˈtəʊpədiːz]. Currently, octopuses is the most common form in the UK as well as the US; octopodes is rare, and octopi is often objectionable.
Yeah! Love learning something new every day – even if it proves me mistaken.
