Esperando a Lolo by Ana Lydia Vega Spanish Version
This is a collection of fourteen essays and articles published in Spanish newspapers from 1985 to 1994. Ms. Vega deals with growing up in Puerto Rico in the fifties and sixties. Themes vary from the Puerto Rican Identity to feminism to domestic violence.
The book is narrated from the first person point of view and it reads quickly -- it took but two hours to read. I enjoyed the narrative, in part because it reminded me of my own personal experiences growing up in Puerto Rico; and in part because of our shared values and identity crises.
For anyone who wants to reminisce about what Puerto Rico was, where it is, and where it's going this is a wonderful little book.
