It seems like a dream when Lee sets eyes on Ryan, the focus of hero worship from his younger days. It's a dream come true when Ryan goes home with him for an unprecedented night of passion. It makes Lee want even more, because he's been going through man after man until the right one came along... and he wants that right one to be Ryan.
When D. W. Marchwell is not teaching future generations the wonders of science, he can usually be found hiking, writing, riding horses, trying new recipes, or searching for and lovingly restoring discarded antique furniture. A goofy and incurable romantic, D.W. admits that his stories are inspired by actual events and has a soft spot for those where boy not only meets boy but also turns out to be boy's soul mate. After almost fifteen years of working his way across Canada, D.W has finally found the perfect place to live at the foot of the Canadian Rockies. He still can't believe how lucky he is, and, as his grandmother taught him, counts his blessings every day.
4.5 stars ~ D.W. Marchwell has done it again, this time in a short story. I was thrilled when I saw that his newest book was available; I bought it and read it and I already want to read it again.
Lee and Ryan are a potent combination. Lee had never forgotten Ryan; what began as hero worship has, over the years, changed to something more adult. I loved that he took a chance and, even more, that Ryan was really interested in getting to know this older Lee.
The sparks struck between the two men were instantaneous and they both found that there was a very strong connection. Lee was was thrilled to be able to spend time with Ryan; it was wonderful the way that his feelings had not led him astray. When the conflict arose I had tears running down my face... but, as this is a romance, it all ended well... and I loved it!
I loved this story about Lee, a bartender with low self-esteem, and Ryan, who is a very self-confident lawyer.
Lee remembers Ryan from back when he was ten years old. One day they run into each other in the bar where Lee works. One thing leads to another and Lee can't quite believe his luck. Until an unexpected misunderstanding interferes and makes Lee think his heart will be broken yet again...
Lee's emotions are deep and I found myself suffering along with him when things went south. Very nicely done for such a short story!
While the premise was good, I found the brevity of the story did not allow the character development that I have come to treasure in D.W. Marchwell's books. Ryan and Lee are both sweet characters and I could very well understand why Lee might remember Ryan from his childhood but didn't quite understand why Ryan would remember Lee.
