As the title slyly suggests, this collection by the one-time Wisconsin Poet Laureate is composed entirely of short poems (and some line drawings!). Always whimsical--

how smooth the surface
of the lake beside the boat
when the musky’s lost

---via its examination of the everyday and its gentle ruminations, it often touches on the profound:

1950

at night
my mother bathed me in a white tub
scrubbed me with white soap
rubbed me in a white towel
hugged and plugged me
into pajamas and the white sheets

an act so kind
so common
it barely even happened

Exploring it will elicit smiles, sighs, understanding nods, ahas, and admiration....and maybe even inspire you to write a short poem of your own!
