When photographing a subject Dean Crawford frequently focuses on just the face or profile and then crops even more tightly when presenting the image in printed form. He truly has a gift for capturing that moment when the face of stranger makes it s first impression. In this book Dean has collected the best of his people shots. They are both young and old, and come from all walks of life. The varied locations of these photographs include New Zealand, Hawaii, United Kingdom, France, Croatia, Italy, Slovenia, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Greece and throughout the United States. None of the pictures were staged or modeled. Though some of the people are acquaintances or family of Dean, the vast majority are individuals that he encountered in his travels. Some of these people were aware that their picture was going to be taken with nothing more than an impromptu cue to smile. The rest were simply going about their daily routine and were not even aware that a shutter had clicked. Throughout the book there are several images that Dean has applied his unique method of repainting a photograph to create an artists rendition of the subject. In 1986 he was one of the pioneers of this form of digital art, pushing the limits of the available software and computing capacity. The Turner Broadcasting Company was among those expressing interest in his technique. This fascinating collection, pulled from over one hundred thousand images, presents the Faces of the world as seen by Dean Crawford.
