I found this to be a tremendously useful book on Plato. The essays are of a high standard, but quite accessible to anyone with even a basic level of understanding of philosophy and Plato. (I found this much more useful, than for comparison the Kraut Cambridge guide). It tends to focus on themes rather than specific Platonic books - but even if you are looking for support in understanding or writing about specific books then there is enough here to help with most of the most famous texts.
