Now that Taiga’s relationship with his dream girl, Yuiko, is in full swing, he’s being gradually initiated into the ways of fujoshi (a very, shall we say, distinct kind of girl geek). Actually, it’s more like he’s being hazed, considering everything from his own name to his friendships with other guys is fair game for Yuiko’s fujoshi filter! Subjected to various emasculating indignities, all in the name of love, Taiga is clearly a guy with the patience of a saint and some serious feelings for his girl. But when a fangirl outing to the bookstore leads to an encounter with a sexy businessman who obviously has an eye on Yuiko, will Taiga be man enough to tell Mr. Perfect to step off?
Taiga gets excited when Yuiko asks if she can use his computer because hers is broken - it'll be her first time visiting Taiga's apartment, and they'll be alone together! However, the situation isn't quite what Taiga thinks it is. Also in this volume: Taiga continues the BL fanfic Yuiko asked him to write but has difficulty viewing the characters the same way she does; Taiga meets Yuiko's friends and is forced to go to a school uniform cafe with them; there's a new guy at Yuiko's workplace who she's nicknamed "Milan"; and Taiga feels conflicted about the way Yuiko views him.
Okay, wow, this volume was actually worse than the first one. There was a lot more going on, and as someone who has played dating sims and dealt with the difficulty of selecting decent BL manga based off of the cover art and description alone, I could relate to some of the things Yuiko talked about. Unfortunately, the series doubled down on Yuiko's inability to see, hear, or do anything without viewing it through a fujoshi lens.
Literally any time Taiga spoke to or was near another attractive guy, Yuiko mentally paired him up with that guy and then usually brought that pairing up with Taiga in a conversation, even though it clearly made him uncomfortable. Also, Taiga repeatedly told Yuiko that he wanted her to call him by his real name, and she repeatedly ignored him and continued to call him Sebas.
I honestly don't think Yuiko viewed Taiga as a real person, and certainly not as her boyfriend. Instead, he was just a guy she could cast in different real-life BL fantasies. Near the end of the volume, Taiga asked Yuiko why none of her fantasies ever included herself, so she tried out a few options, including Yuiko x Sebas, and rejected them as not really doing much for her. When Taiga took offense, Yuiko claimed she was just kidding and said "I'm just not a fan of real person B.L." (144). That...sounded suspiciously like she'd just admitted that, in all her fantasies with Taiga and other men, Taiga and those men weren't real people. Taiga's complaints about Yuiko's habit of pairing him up with his best friend Kouji seemed to indicate that he at least unconsciously realized this, and yet he continued to let her steamroll over him.
While reading this, I found myself thinking of Wotakoi, a series that handles similar topics but usually in a better way (I'm not arguing it's perfect - it definitely has its own issues). Narumi and Hanako also occasionally squeal over fantasies of their boyfriends in BL situations, but their boyfriends tend to play along a bit (Kabakura with some embarrassment but still relatively willingly, and Nifuji willingly and with zero embarrassment), turning it into a form of roleplay. Also, these fantasies aren't the sole basis of their relationships with their boyfriends. The same doesn't really apply to Yuiko and Taiga.
At any rate, this series is actively unpleasant, and I'm glad I only own the first couple volumes. I don't plan to continue on from here.
Extras:
Two full-color pages, an excerpt from Taiga's BL fanfic in three different styles (normal, literary, and text message), a couple more pages of Yuiko's fujoshi glossary, an afterword essay by Pentabu, and a short extra in which Taiga protested to Yuiko that he and Kouji really are friends and not whatever fujoshi fantasy Yuiko pictured them as.
Well, I was pleasantly surprised this volume wasn't as obnoxious as I thought it would be. It seems Yuiko and Taiga have sort of glided into their relationship(even though they NEVER act as if they're dating) and Taiga seems a little less annoyed about his girlfreind's fujoshi ways (though he still is irritated by most of it). And to be honest... I am too. It's all her life is about. She can't look at ANYTHING without making it fujoshi in some way, shape, or form. I mean, I'm all about anyone wanting to be a fan girl for anything...but when you can't think about anything else...I think that's when you have a problem.
So I went from volume 1 being annoyed at Taiga to being really annoyed with Yuiko in volume 2. It's a shame because she's so cute. But her fujoshi ways are getting really old really fast.
I didn't think that things would get worse in the second volume... but they did. Now Taiga (the guy) is questioning his own personality and trying to fit himself into a certain role that he thinks will please Yuiko (the fujoshi girl he's dating). Yuiko gets worse IMO because now she's actively picturing and fantasizing about her boyfriend being with other guys such as her boss and his best friend. -_-
I really wanted to like this series however I just cannot get past how much it seems like she is attempting to change the main character to better suit her interests. It feels a lot like he's doing all the giving and she is coming off incredibly selfish. I thought this would be a fun, cute and light read but I've been a bit disappointed in it. I honestly cannot say I'll continue on with the series anytime soon, I just don't click very well with it.
I really want this to be more! I feel like the girl in this relationship is so not even interested in her boyfriend. She appears to be using him for her otaku fantasies, which I would normally love and think was interesting, but in this case, it just makes me feel bad for the guy. He is constantly having to hear about her shipping him with any other guy that happens to cross their paths..kindof annoying honestly. I like the series, and I will continue but I want more!
The girlfriend is mildly concerning calling her boyfriend by a different name and coming up with all these scenarios, some of it feels harmless but the ml is clearly going out of his comfort zone for her, I hope she ends up with a lot of character development by the end, if you remember this is just a manga the plot is pretty silly and it’s nice to see a fl be so confident in her hobbies

This story started out with a cute premise and even thought I've invested in lead hero Taiga, I just cannot stand Yuiko. I don't see her character having any value in Taiga other than having her own personal cosplayer to torture. I gave the second book a shot but I won't be back for a third.
I re-read it, since my first reading of it got split up between last night and this evening, but I still have no idea where to start with this. <_<;
Um... I have to admit that this series is one that (so far) I really like. It's totally goofy and fun, and so far I don't think I've seen a moment that could stay serious for very long (which could be problematic in the future, but for now...). For now we're shown more of the growing relationship between Taiga and Yuiko, and moments from his continuing education into the world of Fujoshi.
First the couple spends some time together when Yuiko comes over to his place to visit for the first time. However, he's distressed when she spends the entire time divided between playing a computer game on his computer (the reason she came over), and teasing him.
Unfortunately for Taiga, teasing him seems to be the theme for this volume. :D It's hard to feel sorry for him though, as it's so much fun watching his reactions, and the interactions between the two. I really want to read the light novels after this to see how they are.
After this date, the two make plans to go out shopping and to the aquarium. These plans are de-railed, however, when the end up in the 'maidens road' and come across a Fujoshi store that Yuiko is promptly distracted by. She runs into some friends, and the group make their way to a cosplay café for lunch. Poor Taiga is both fascinated and mortified by the conversations that follow, especially when he makes the mistake of catching the servers eye and is promptly accused by Yuiko of making bedroom eyes at him.
Then a possible rival appears. Taiga meets a mysterious man at a book store, when they both reach for the same book. Yuiko, of course, reads way too much into it. The situation is complicated however when it turns out the mystery man is 'Milan', one of the new bosses at the company Yuiko works at. He also seems (to Taiga at least) to have a liking for Yuiko (which she is totally oblivious too, too busy dreaming up scenarios for Milan and Taiga!
Let's just say that I don't want to read this series anymore.
I liked the premise, guy meets beautiful girl, finds out she is otaku/fujoshi and doesn't mind (at least first glance, and mostly because he doesn't know).
Let's just say that the main guy is an idiot, for having his girlfriend treat him like that. Making him doubt his sexuality, making him doubt himself, making him insecure. I wish he would just be honest with her and say that he doesn't want to be put in pairs, or called Sebas/Sebastian. I wish he would grow a pair of balls and just say NO.
The main girl, urgh, I am sorry to say but she doesn't give Fujoshi a good image. She is a total bitch, pushing her own boyfriend into scenarios with other guys (who does that?), making jokes about him, make him come with her to BL stores or cafes, calling him not by his name, but by the name Sebas/Sebastian and so the list goes on. I am sorry, but she is one of the most unlikeable characters and she will go on the list together with some other not-liked characters.
I wouldn't recommend this series to anyone, unless they don't mind being frustrated by some girl who thinks the world turns around her and her BL stuff.
Sweet story about love of naive young (male) university student (hero/narrator) and his beloved independent "fujoshi" - yaoi/BL/slash fangirl, two years older and with greater income (because she works already) than his. He suffers because BL/slash very much :o), but he still loves her and accept her hoby (and her herself). Wonderful manga! (And sweet sweet sweet hero. :o)) Made after book (and diary entries on his blog at first) of Pentabu, male lover of similar "fujoshi", from 2005-2007. :o)The first male (heterosexual) opinion on BL/slash which I ever read (I mean the one which try to understand, not to be hurtful, unsensitive and often vulgar). I am similar "fujoshi" (female slasher), also very funny for me. :o) :o) :o) /Heroine is some mirror to me. :o)/ And it is very worthy and important because it is very honest. Hero can´t understand her love for slash (and slash itself), but he loves her very much and tries hard to accept it - and to accept her. Because he loves her. Amazing boy! Or young man. Sweet sweet sweet... He is real treasure and his books, too. I wish to read original book! It will be issued in autumn 2010 in English translation, I certainly will buy it.
I really liked the 1st volume but I think I enjoyed the this 2nd volume even more. This story is about a guy whose girlfriend is a fujoshi. Taiga no matter what he does Yuiko will come up with some fantasy for him. And Yuiko keeps calling him by Sebas instead of his name which is making him nuts, then she refers to him as the Uke.
In one of the chapters in this volume he goes out with her to a restaurant with some of her friends and it ends up being a restaurant where all of the guys dress up in school uniforms. Her and her friends get into many different conversations that makes Taiga uncomfortable. Part of what made me laugh was the conversations that the females where having where being a fangirl myself it made me smile because in some of the area's where I read stories everyone talks just like that :D
I like the way that Taiga reacts to Yuiko he doesn't seem to get to upset just stunned at how she comes up with these things, and he is evening getting to know her more that he can tell when she is thinking something she shouldn't.
I see Taiga being pulled more and more into the Yuiko crazy way of life :)
I ADORE this! Really great read. It was so adorable! Also it had great comedy. I got this on a Borders sale (they're closing) and I wasn't disappointed. The only problem I had was how the main character's girlfriend was so involved with other things that they were so far apart and he really didn't see it. Still a great read!
Oh my god, I'm in love! I can totally relate to the girlfriend since I tend to have 'otaku' tendencies when it comes to anime and manga and all that fun stuff. My girlfriend is the boyfriend, someone who isn't interested in the stuff, but puts up with it for the sake of love. And it works. It really does.
The only reason this volume gets 3 stars instead of 4 is the ending! Very unsatisfying, it sets up an interesting rivalry for Taiga but then it just ends! Saaaad. Very cute series though! Still enjoyed it.

I liked this book because it was very funny, but don't expect this manga to be amazingly great because it's not supposed to be. I actually have never read the first book but I still was able to pick up on what was going on, that's how much of an easy read this is.
