Had my 6 year old independently read this...she learned some new food words and loved the big and repetitive yums! A lot of laughs about the very hungry bunny that crunches and munches. Good for little readers who like to laugh while reading. Would work as a read aloud for preschoolers too.
My daughter and I love this series of Hello Genius books. Really cute pictures and simple text made this a good read for infants. My 11 month old was entertained by the colors and pictures. I love that each story is entertaining, yet also teaches a lesson (in this case, experimenting and trying new foods. Big big yum!).
I enjoy using the "hello genius" board books with story time because they offer plenty of opportunity to expand their silly text and illustrations.
For instance, we see bunny with lots of wood chips exploding from his toothy grin while standing by a tree with a chunk missing from it's trunk. The text says, "Bunny likes to C H E W things." To which I add, "Bunny, TREES are not to chew -- unless you're a beaver!"
The next page shows Bunny chewing a guitar, a baseball, and a block castle. The text is, "Chomp! chomp! chomp! (etc.)" To which I add, "Bunny, guitars are not to chew (etc.)".
On the page before the last, after reading the text, "Big, BIG Y U M !" I add, "wait for it, wait for it, wait for it" and turn the page to the
This book is so cute. I love the bunny and LJ did too! What I didn't like is the carrots and celery were not that well drawn, but overall the story was cute and it focused on eating vegetables, mostly!
I like that the book shows the bunny eating healthy-ish foods, but he kinda makes a huge mess..... so that's not the BEST. But super cute illustrations!!
The illustrations in this very short and simple book about eating are bright and all-round wonderful. Would be a great addition to a storytime towards the end when the shorter the book, the better.
