These are my friends I know them, you see. I know them quite well... because they live with me!
Charles Fuge's delightful rhyming text and absolutely adorable images bring to life a little girl and her charming animals as they play all day. She spins round with her hippo, blows bubbles in the bath with giraffe, and picnics on brown bread and honey with her bear when it's sunny. And, did you ever meet a leopard in top hat and tail? He's simply the best, as anyone can see. It's the most delightful menagerie imaginable, and the sweetest story--with a little twist at the end.
Charles Fuge has been writing and illustrating since 1988. Published while he was in art school, his first picture book won the Mother Goose Award for best newcomer to children's books. He lives in England with his partner, Sarah, and their son, Ollie.
Ohh. My. Lord this was soooo GOOD! Me as a little kid would have LOVED to read this over and over and over again until it was well worn out and in danger of needing to be replaced.
I love how fun it was to read. The rhythms were great. The illustrations were spot on. And it even has a particularly fun page where you have to turn the book side on to read it.
High marks for this all around. Even loved the last page as it was just too cute for words.
Definitely Highly recommended! (Especially as a bedtime book)
If you liked the repetitive rhythm of “each, peach, pear plum” you will love the the rhyme and rhythm of this story too! Based around favourite cuddly toy’s, this story brings the toys to life for fun and adventures! A great bed time story for all!
This is one of my new favorites for baby/toddler storytime. It begins with a little girl having tea with a very real rhino. The illustrations are bold, colorful, and realistic with just the perfect touch of whimsy. Each over sized spread has the unnamed girl playing with a new animal, ending deliciously with all the now stuffed-animals in bed with her. A wonderful peek into the power of imagination.
This book is about a little girl talking about all the animals that she knows and hangs out with. She goes through each animal and tells what they do together. they are very unrealistic things until we get to the very end and it ties together in a very cute way.
I loved this book. It had such a cute ending and I loved how I didn't see it coming. I thought it was just the little girls' imagination. While that was true, it eventually tied together in a cute little bow at the end.
I would use this probably in a lower level elementary class when talking about imaginary friends or someone who is struggling to use their imagination. This would be fun to create short stories from like with their own stuffed animals and inanimate objects around them.
This is another fun kids book by Charles Fuge, I really liked how the story talked about all these fun animals that the little girl knows about, what they do and then it turns out they are all the stuffed animals on her bed that she cuddles and sleeps with! It was so cute, and I feel like any kid who has more stuffed animals on their bed then room to sleep, will enjoy this book and relate to it!
Cute book for the youngest readers. A young child has different play experiences with different animals. At the end it is revealed that the animals are actually the child’s stuffed animals, which made for a cute ending. It has a nice rhyme scheme, perfect bedtime story for young toddlers and babies.

A must read for any rhyme lover. This book encompasses the meaning of rhythm, with its vibrant and bold illustrations to accompany the fun, whimsical rhymes. This is a great book which shows the depth a child's imagination can go to. It is a lovely way of introducing rhymes for younger children and most certainly will want them craving more.
Very cute story about a little girl and the things she likes to do with all the different wild animals she knows, who - as it turns out - are her own beloved stuffed toys. Very cute story about friendship, or could use for jungle animals theme.
The pictures in this book make me so happy. The rhymes make me so happy. I read to Jane over face=time today and that made me really happy and it made her happy! I love the ending!
My mom recently discovered this title online while researching what book went with my sister's Kohls Cares for Kids rhino. It appears that this book is now out of print, but I was able to read it on Open Library, and I LOVE the surprise ending. I should have seen it coming, but I didn't, and it's so charming and fun.
Picture book. Sweet illustrations tell a little girl's relationship with personified stuff animals. Great rhyming book to teach phonological awareness.
Have you ever taken a bath with a giraffe? Played doctor with a dragon? Brunched with a bear? Rocked out with an orangutan? The female lead in I Know a Rhino is a little girl with a big imagination. She brings her stuffed animal friends along in all of her imaginative adventures.
Charles Fuge's luscious illustrations in I Know a Rhino made this my son's favorite board book from infancy. The text flows nicely, with well-formed rhymes and a good pace. You will quickly be able to read this book with your eyes closed (which is quite handy with a cranky child who's up all night long).
As an added bonus, this is a great book to start working on scientific names of animals (if you're so inclined). A close reader might notice that the black rhino (Diceros bicornis) on the cover seems to become an Indian rhino (Rhinoceros unicornis) on the final page.
Why do so many kids books attempt a rhyme scheme and then totally let it fall apart on at least one page? It's usually something with the meter. This book is no exception.
But it's got some great illustrations. And I love how the giraffe page gets turned to be extra tall. Nice work that. Plus H. likes it.

Another recommended book for toddlers, this one was actually good. I thought it was an adorable story about a toddler/preschool girl who goes on a picnic with a bear, takes a bath with a giraffe, looks after a dragon with a cold and other adventures. She is able to do with her stuffed animals and a lot of imagination. The illustrations are great and the text is short, bold type and rhyming. Highly recommended for ages 1-6, 4 stars.
This book was cute but I got worried when it talked about "dancing to a tape" thinking "this is a new book, most kids have no IDEA what a tape player is" but then I saw that is was first printed in 2002, so, I can give them a break. This book is cute. I love the imagination and then ending was just what I hoped it would be....Fun one for little kids!
