So there were some things I liked and some things that didn’t sit as well.
On the whole this was a fun story and an easy read with a cast of intriguing characters. I was invested in the mystery enough to keep going right through to the end. A number of the events along the way were surprising (in a good way), cute, and funny. As a for instance, I may never look at grocery store parking lots the same way! And, “thank you for choosing not to use my office,” lol.
On the down side, there were some egregious typos (such as, Libby’s name gets misspelled). But more importantly, there were a lot of loose ends. Things that were just kind of thrown in there, seemingly without any purpose other than maybe to offer some alternative theories of the crime, but then totally dropped. The person who roofied her? Never mentioned again. (And where did that come from? Was the person expecting it to go well and then just carry on with life as usual?) The gossipy “friend” in the bar? One and done. The person who swore revenge — OK maybe something came of that in like the last sentence, but I never got why that was even a thing (like, can you be that bent out of shape about your lawyer?). The person whose house the confrontation happened in? Never mentioned again.
I guess I just feel like some of those loose ends were the difference between just a fun read, and a really great — is this even a genre — romantic crime drama?
