The Meraux Family is the governing body of DuPont Falls. They protect from corruption, discrimination, and abuse of power. They provide structure, order, and support. Nothing moves in or out of the city without their say-so.
They reign supreme, but even they have rules to abide by; family preservation is the most important. They will do ANYTHING to preserve it.
Gianni is stubborn and stuck in a complicated situation. Tyson is misunderstood and driven by pain. Macklen is an introvert who's constantly stuck in the middle. He happens to fall for the one woman he can't have.
Follow this family on a wild ride of secrets, revenge, and love.
If there’s one thing Kaylyn’s going to do is write a 500 page book of pure amazingness! I mean she came out the gate swinging with that fire prologue! How could you not root for Gianni and Hailo after an opening like that! This was all of your favorite tropes rolled into one. We had a surprise baby, an arranged marriage, forbidden love, and even a love triangle. Kaylyn was in her bag with this one and I’m all the way in love with the Meraux men and their families! This story centered around Gianni, Mack and Tyson Meraux. They were next in line to take over the family business and if there was one thing they didn’t play about was family. They were founded on solid principles and traditions that were not to be altered.
After finding out that her husband to be wasn’t who she thought he was, Hailo’s friends came up with the bright idea to party her heartbreak away in DuPont falls. She had no idea that the scariest n*gga in the club would capture her heart. After a night of fun neither of them had any idea that their night of pure passion would change their lives forever. The way Gi loved Lo was everything! He did not play about her!!! Whew! PRESSURE!!!
Mack was a quiet storm. Not a man of many words. He was calculated and measured every step three times over before a move was made. But after Skylar wiggled her way into his heart he didn’t know whether he was coming or going. I was really rooting for these two. If there was anyone more deserving of a HEA it was Sky and Mack!
Tyson Tyson Tyson….. where do I begin! While Gi and Mack had a beautiful example of strong, loud black love, Ty did not and it was evident in his f*ck boy behavior. He was the black sheep of the family and just angry for no reason (we eventually find out the reason). I eventually softened up to Ty like 400 pages in 🤣 and was able to empathize with his character more!
Kyerra was a bird!! She was an opportunist and I was over her and her pick me behavior. Solana was a waste of a character and the book could’ve done without her. She added nothing to the story and created more messiness that she was worth. For her to have been the oldest Meraux she was definitely the most immature.
Do yourselves a favor and get into this family! You will NOT be disappointed! BRAVO👏🏽 👏🏽
Gianni, Macklen, and Tyson are more than just first cousins. They’re brothers and each other’s rider. They are the next generation of the Meraux Mafia and, now that the OGs are finally retiring, it’s time for them to step into their legacy and become the new kings of DuPont Falls. But, with their new roles, there are plenty of stipulations and drama. You will fall in love with the Meraux cousins. They each bring something to the table with their distinct personalities. Gianni is the leader, Macklen is the peacekeeper, and Tyson is the hothead bad boy. Beside each of the Meraux men is a strong black woman to help them reign supreme. Well, two of them at least. Hailo is nursing a broken heart but, when she runs into Gianni in the club, her life changes in ways she never expected. Solana is the Princess of the Meraux family. She’s the oldest cousin and the only girl. The rules for her are quite different from the fellas which, makes for a lonely and boring life that gives her too much time to be all up in everyone else’s business. Skylar has been crushin’ hard on Mack since they met but, because of her situation, rules dictate they can never be together. Or, can’t they?!!! Kyerra was a triflin’ opportunist who tried to come between the cousins because, she couldn’t have the one she wanted. I couldn’t stand that heffa and have absolutely nothing nice to say about that trick. She and her pick me energy gets a strong side eye from me every time. 😒😒😒 Meraux Mafia was an excellent read. You get a little bit of everything with this storyline. There’s a one night stand, a surprise baby, forced marriage, a not so love triangle, a lil bit of kidnapping, and tons of drama. The prelude is going to suck you in but, the rest of the book will definitely have you in a chokehold til the very end. Meraux Mafia is my first book by Kaylyn but, it definitely won’t be the last.
Wow, the prologue grabbed my attention. Go read this book NOW!! I adore the story of Gi and Lo, whose one-night stand changed both of their lives. However, despite the circumstances, the two's chemistry made it worthwhile. I enjoyed how naturally they connected with one another and how we got to see their affection. Because of their predicament and her past relationships with men, Lo had to learn how to accept and appreciate the love Gi was providing her. Wow, Gi was such a gentleman to stick by Lo no matter what, and Lo matched his devotion. I was cheering for Mack and Skylar like it was Fuck Tradition because they were so damn cute. Tyson …. Where do I start, there's always that one annoying person. Because of his rage, he almost destroyed everything, but I'm pleased he recognized before it was too late.I honestly don’t like the Tyson and Kyerra situation I’m side eyeing her😑. Idc I felt like this was Tyson karma. I couldn’t connect with Sloana but it wouldn’t hurt to get a story from her.
The Meraux Mafia family were something else! They took me on a journey and it was a wild ride. I went from thinking I knew what would happen to being too stunned to speak! Who would have thought a prestigious & highly respected family would have so much baggage. The preclude alone drew me in and I wasn’t released from the hold until the end. A one night stand baby, forced marriage, kidnapping, family secrets, and more lies than I could count- yeah, this book is a hit for sure! I loved the development of Gi & Hailo!! The way their story began to where it ends was such a great experience. It showed what determination and commitment meant, in terms of relationships. They were so stinking cute. Gi is a whole man in these streets and Hailo matched his energy! An underrated love story was Mack & Skylar! When I say I wanted them together in the WORST way, I mean it. They were so good together! Tyson was a good villain, such a hothead but he redeemed himself and I respect him. The old regime of DuPont Falls moved out the way and the new ones shook things up. I love the flow of the story and the plot twists were timely. There were intense moments and then a sensual scene would help balance things out. If anything for the family needed an example, this is it! Also, I would not be opposed to Solana finding love- just throwing it out there. I enjoyed this so much!!
One thing about Gianni Meraux - he loves his wife! Gianni was everything, I loveddddd him! Macklen was bae too. Hailo and Sky were perfect for these two. This story was FULL. There were twists, bombshells, and romance. There was so much going on with this family - each brother could have had their own book, making this a series. I enjoyed it. The sister seemed like a pointless addition to the story though. We didn’t get a whole lot from her but I kept wondering about her.
The punctuation was off at times and there was some editing errors but it didn’t take away from the story at all.
This was a NTMA. This book had me from the beginning. I absolutely LOVED it. I love how the author took what could have been a series and made it a long novel...and I felt like I got everything I needed.
Just like every family, the Meraux’s had their problems and issues but it was truly family over everything. I definitely need to check out more of her work!
The Meraux family reign supreme over DuPont Falls. Nothing goes on in the city without their approval. There is notihing they believe in more than family presavation. They will do anything including following misguided and outdated rules to preserve it.
This is a story of three cousins who are destined to inherit the family business from their fathers. As they each transition into their roles in the business they each find love in the most unconventional and unexpected ways. Between the three there is a one night stand, a surprise pregnancy, arranged marriages, forbidden romace and breaking of the bro code.
I really enjoyed this book. All three couples and their drama kept me engaged, I couldn't put it down. It felt like everyone with the exception of Tyson got their HEA. His story seemed incomplete and I would love to know if and how him and Kyerra were able to work everything out.
I loved Gianni so bad!! The true definition of a man!! From day 1 he didn’t play about Hailo! The way he loved on her through all her trauma & showed her exactly how a man should treat her, love her & be there for her through good & bad was everything! He’s a good man Savannah!! 🙌🏾
Mac made my heart melt the way he loved Sky!! That man saw what he wanted & went after it!! He didn’t care who had something to say about it!! He was so laid back & smooth!! A real Prince Charming Mac gave Sky that fairytale love every girl dreams of! I just loved him!!
Tyson on the other hand not so much 😒 he was bogus and crossed so many lines! Him & Keyarra were BOTH trifling asf! Tried to prove a point & got stuck with the point, LITERALLY!They deserved each other!
This was a good read!! I can’t wait to get into the spinoff next !
Loved the Meraux men💗😍. Giana was definitely bae but he met his match with Hailo. They got off to a rocky start but it was all love after that. I loved their playful banter and teasing as a couple.
Mack was so cool and laid back but he got on my nerves pining after Sky. I was sooo relieved when he shot his shot. Cam was adorable and stole the show.
Tyson was my least favorite but he had lots of baggage to unpack. A holiday update on this family would be awesome!!!
Crime families hold a special place in my heart. Add in fine black men who know wtf they're doing and it's a wrap. Two good reads in a row - I'm so happy.
Mack was my favourite - loved Gianni but Mack just tickled me pink. Love Sky too much 🤣 I loved Lo's crazy ass too.
Side note: there are multiple povs but the main couple dominates the book.
You neverrrrrrr miss! Per usual I loved this story but I loved Gianni even more. Super fan of how sure he was of himself & the situation with Hailo! Thank you for a bomb ass story! Can’t wait for whatever is next!
One thing about it and two things for certain, Kaylyn Kiara can write a book and you better believe it’s gonna be good. I swear every trope I love is in this book! Arranged marriages, a secret pregnancy, forced proximity, forbidden romance etc. I was engaged for all 500 pages and very much loved the multiple POVs used to tell the story. It flowed steadily and everyone involved got a happily ever after. The Meraux family stayed loyal to one another, there was no such thing as going against the family. I was so happy Gianni and Hailo fell in love, they were meant for each other. What the girls be saying? My man my man my man!!! I need me a him lol Male characters who don’t hesitate to step for their women/families will always have a special place in my heart. Macklen and Sky were super cute too, him stepping up to be the father Cam needed made my heart smile! Go read this one and thank me later!
Du Pont Falls is alright with me! There is nothing like family and community that genuinely takes care of its own. Even with the scandals, the love and unity won!
Life didn't go as planned, but it was better than it could've been planned! The Meraux Family may have been seen as a Mafia, but their values of family, unity, love & loyalty was top notch! The title... no ordinary love is accurate. The gems this story dropped are priceless! NTMA that I will definitely be getting into again! Great job! 💯🎉🎊
This was a WILD ride for me! The Mereaux family had so much baggage, and I don't even feel like we got to dig all the way into it. There was nothing predictable about this story, which is probably why i finished it so quick. I had to know what was going to happen. Gi and Lo were the main couple and I mean who doesn't love a one night stand that creates a baby and leads to some minor kidnapping and an arranged marriage? Gi and Lo definitely had the most going on, their story itself was developed so well and I'm happy where they ended up BUT they weren't my faves. That belongs to Macklen and Skye. There was just something about those two and I love when a man knows what he wants and refuses to let anything get in between that. Tyson, I didn't like him at first.....I kinda like him now but talk about a complex character. He was the villain but after learning more about him I can understand why he was the way he was. I wasn't expected that little twist with him at the end and I'm hoping he gets his own book. It definitely felt like there was more story to tell there. The only other thing I wanted was for my girl Solana to find some love. Overall I really enjoyed this story...it was a well balanced story which is hard to do when you have several different plots happening at once. I hope we get more from this family!
This book was one of my best reads this year. The wide range of emotions that this story displayed 🥲😍😔😤🤬!! The secrets, lies, betrayals and down right devious things that this book holds 😳😳😳. Just read the damn book.
This was such a great romance! I loved the characters so much! (Well most of them lol) Mack is possibly my favorite book boyfriend of all time!🥰 The way he went hard for Sky and her child was amazing! And Gianni loved him some Hailo too! Those couples were both so perfect together! The ending did feel a little anti-climactic to me, I wish something more had happened. But overall, this was a really great read and I cannot wait to read more books by Kaylyn!
Don't take this review too seriously. I think I was high when I started this book, which may be the reason I'm confused about this storyline. I went back to the beginning because it felt like I missed something. Did I skip a page? Did the kindle unlimited give me missing pages? How high am I? lol Characters appear out of thin air and I had no idea who this person is. Calling characters by nicknames. Hailo was calling her mother Sage so I thought it as another BFF. Then couple of sentences later "My mother is..."
So when I got to the one night stand part, at the very beginning of the book. I put the book down. Then I thought about and decided let me not be so judgmental. I have done some crazy things in my 20's (no you won't see me in the freaknik documentary) so let me go back to this book.
And it went from a one night stand to six months later Gianni find out she is pregnant. Hell I barely realized she was pregnant and I'm reading the story. But again I was probably high.
And then we have Kyerra.......oh why must authors create such bitter vial characters. I mean the parking lot scene where Kyerra is all mad and giving Hailo dirty looks and calls her a bitch. Girl you should be checking your man that you just got back with 30 seconds ago. Why are you taking your frustrations out on someone who didn't know you existed.
Then Gianni's father goes and kidnaps a pregnant woman from the hotel. 3 grown men are taking a woman under duress and nobody says anything because it's the Meraux Mafia.
WHAT KIND OF MAFIA IS MERAUX? WHY ARE THEY POWERFUL? ARE THEY INTO DRUG TRAFFICKING? GUNS? BOTH? GAMBLING? LOAN SHARKS? FRAUD? PROSTITUTION?
This is mostly why I felt like I was reading a series out of order. Maybe I have to keep reading to find out.
But right now it's a 1 star for me. I will be back to update once I'm done reading and yes I'm going to be high.
From the prologue to the epilogue this did not disappoint.
The Meraux family runs DuPont Falls. Some of the family’s traditions are old and outdated. When a one night stand happens it changes the life of the family and its traditions forever. Gianni is a boss and easily the scariest most well known of the Meraux Men. Tyson is a hot head and often moves without consideration of others. Mack is the calm cool collected one who is caring and an introvert. Each of the men have unique qualities that make them a perfect catch. Gianni and Lo had an instant attraction and they worked well with each other. They both had to want to take the time to know each other to make things work. Mack and Sky were perfect. Where Mack was quiet/reserved, Sky was never one to hold her tongue and would call you out if you were doing foolishness. They balanced each other out. Tyson and his girl I’m 50/50 with them because I just don’t feel like she is genuine especially considering everything that happened. The parents of the MMC’s all had me on the fence because I don’t care about traditions when it comes to the happiness of my child/children. Some of them weren’t even happy themselves but expected their kids to just make it work. Overall this was fast paced with well developed characters and backstories that made you relate to the characters and feel like you know them.
I’ve seen the reviews and for the first 80-83% I would agree this was great, but the last bit was not only redundant, it felt unnecessary.
Usually the author does a great job, following multiple couples. In this story, it felt choppy. And like we were missing integral parts of the development.
5⭐️. First book by this author and I felt like this was perfect. I started reading cuz I was in the mood for a mafia trope, but Chile this book roped me in. I did not expect to be so invested that I couldn’t put it down. I loved everything about it. Even tho Gianni and Hailo went through a lil rough patch, I enjoyed reading about them. Mack becoming step daddy of the year was everything. He said him and Cam will leave Skylar behind and I believed him 🤣. Mack was a wonderful friend to Hailo. I tend to love those friendships bonds more than the relationships. Tyson’s character development was perfect. He messed up in more ways than one, but he had such growth. I really thought he would’ve been the villain til the end. I’m proud of him.

Well well well Kaylyn has definitely done it again! This book had me from the beginning to end. These Meraux men…where can I get me one of these?!! Gianna and Lo didn’t know one night of goodness would lead them to a lifetime together. The love he poured into her was everything. This book gave me all the feels. This was a hands down great read!!
I loved it from the beginning to the end. You did an excellent job with this story. I loved the all though. I hope that you can do a spin-off on these characters in the near future.
This was a well written book. This family had its ups and downs and multiple things going on that kept you reading and wanting to know what happened next.
Soooo I was pleasantly drawn into this novel. I love a one night stand that results in a baby and a HEA....but these rules demanding a marriage!! Chefs kiss!! Hailo and Gianni's chemistry had me hooked from the beginning. His loyalty and her trust issues made for great push and pull that kept the story interesting!! I will say I wanted them to delved deeper into the rules themselves and the reason behind them. But over all an amazing read!!!
This was such a good story. I adore this authors writing style. This was so good I didn’t want it to end. I loved how Hailo and Gianni met, they had an instant connection. I was not a fan of Tyson, I’m glad he redeemed himself. Soloana needs her own story now.
