He’s been missing 10 years. It’s time to start living again, but can she really leave him in the past?
Detective Daniel Harper disappeared on the job, leaving behind his wife and daughter. Connie Harper is now forty-six years old, and she has spent the last ten years waiting, hoping Daniel would come home. Burying herself in her work and closing herself off from the world, life has passed her by.
When her daughter calls to tell her she’s engaged, Connie realizes it’s time to move forward but there’s one last thing she has to do. When she finally opens a mysterious box that was left for her all those years ago, secrets unfold and Connie does something nobody expects.
She goes to Ruby Island.
Watched by law enforcement, warned by locals, caught in a storm. Will Connie be able to close the chapter of grieving in her life? Or will she stir up hidden truths that everyone seems desperate to keep secret?
From the book's description it had pretty good potential but it most definitely did not live up to it. There was no real "mystery" and what little there was to this storyline was over pretty quickly. For a book whose main character was an editor, there was little to no editing of this book and it just got worse the longer it went. There were grammatical errors, timeline errors, words left out and extra words added. The main character's hair is short through the entire book (and it's emphasized often) to suddenly being long and braided at her daughter's wedding. It focused so hard on her husband and his disappearance at the beginning but that's never really resolved. I finished it because I kept thinking something else would happen but it never did.
I struggled with how many stars I should give. First of all, I want to say that I enjoyed the plot. I love a romance story with a bit of drama. BUT... There were too many errors. First of all, there was no editing at all. The indentations were at 5 spaces and that is old school. They are at 2.5 now. The line spacing went from 1.15 to 1.0 and back several times. There were added words where there shouldn't have been. An editor or formatter would have seen these glaring issues. Secondly, the details of the story were bad. Emma says they are getting married in three months. That doesn't happen. In order for her to have her babies in the spring, she would have needed to be pregnant at the end of summer. She would have been showing by the time she announced the engagement. Especially with twins. Beau and Daniella are cousins(2nd) to Roslyn and Riley, not aunt and uncle. The sun can't rise and set in the ocean on the North Carolina coast. I get that it can be in a different position, depending on the time of year, but not the time they spoke of. The wishywashy-ness of the island residents don't change that quickly. Especially in a primarily retirement community. Oh, and at some point, it is said that Connie was 40. But she has a 24 year old daughter. That would make her 16 when she got married, not after high school or college. Lastly, I want to talk about the mystery. You can't just pring in the perpetrator out of the blue. A good mystery has clues to where this person was from. They should have at least been talked about if not introduced. The mystery didn't make sense. They went after Kass and they had no idea about who Kass was. They would have been after Connie, not Kass. And why reveal that so early in the series? The last two books could have been summarized in like 3 more chapters. Books 5 & 6 were unnecessary.
My suggetion is to not waste your money on this book. Since it was part of my Kindle Unlimited, I read it and finished it. I will not read anymore from this author.
I enjoyed the first couple of "books". I use quotes because these really should be edited down to one or two books. Way too much fillers, way too much winking and rolling of eyes, way too much of how wonderful and handsome Daniel and Hugh are. If fact, I guess we should just call him Handsome Hugh because it is emphasized so much. What starts out as a promising mystery gets totally lost and then is just sappy. In these 6 " books" Daniel's disappearance is never solved, the mysterious papers found in the attic are never discussed again. So if there are sequels I don't want to have to read more 6 more "books" to find out what happened. As I read each book there is less and less substance and way too much drivel. And what's with the daughter! She was supposed to get married in 3 months and all of a sudden she's pregnant and then suddenly the kids are 10 months old and she's still not married. Also, for most of the books Connie is mourning her wonderful husband, Daniel, then in book 5 or 6 she had been angry with him for 10 years? Way too many meandering plot lines and inconsistencies. Maybe it should get 2 stars?
Connie has mourned her husband for ten years and now things are about to change. She reads a letter her husband left her and it contains the deed to a house on Ruby Island. Connie goes to Ruby Island and her life will never be the same. She finds out her husband has a brother and Connie has this new family. As Connie gets more involved in life on the Island, she finds herself coming to life again. She faces some danger along the way but finds a new life. This is a great story of a woman learning to live and love again.
The Sea Isle Inn (The Complete Ruby Island Series: Books 1-6)
A lovely series to read and pass a Good Friday reading. I loved the family feeling throughout the 6 books. The way everything was solved by hard work and love. I can recommend reading this on a holiday, at home or just in the evenings when you have spare time.
Ruby Island is a place that Connie never knew existed. It was where her husband grew up and maybe a second chance for her. The premise of the book was good but it fell a little flat foe me. Often jumping around and making me question if I had missed a few pages. G rated and not quite my type of book.
A fairly slow paced romance novel. Nicely written but found some of the scenarios a little annoying such as the sister's arrival and unrealistic fast romance, the sudden wedding venue cancellation and the long engagement (kids nearly at school) by the time the actual wedding took place. A little slow and slushy for me.

A lovely set of books. Great how the characters go from one book the the next. You get to see the characters in different settings on the island. Really enjoyed them.
This six book series was excellent from the first chapter on. I enjoyed seeing how Connie who lost her husband found her life and eventually the next love of her life. Very good book.
Suspense, drama, romance and dreams all rolled into one good series. Many memories brought forward and loved by all in each story. New beginnings and new families made. Excellent stories.
These books have it all and then some. Connie has to learn to say goodbye, finally to her husband, who has been missing for 10 years. She says hello to a new life, with new challenges and friends. I recommend reading this series.
Nice to read if wasn't for all the errors like the case of Connie was eating breakfast she has toast with jelly and in the next sentence she was choking on her bacon.
The basic story is good. Attention to detail not so good. Facts changed from book to book. It felt like somethings were lost. I felt like I missed half the story.
I loved this series so much, I finished it in two day's. I hope you let us know what Lori and Arthur are having. Also about Connie and Hughs wedding. I really do love your book's 📚❤😍
Wonderful story about finding love after having it taken away. I could not stop reading this! The story is nice and clean, and the characters are people you would want for your family members, friends, or neighbors.
This story and characters will get into your heart and soul. It express what love is truly about. Love that will get you through the darkest times to the brightest.
Connie had many ups & downs; she found her way after getting lost on the road to her mysterious future. I was hoping for more on her missing husband, but closer for her was good.
The story drags in places, but it was a sweet story! It needs editing. Your readers deserve it! It was kind of like ready a diary. It didn't have e strong plot.
