I really should’ve known better than to play around with that old book of spells…
How was I supposed to know that the incantations scrawled inside of it worked? That the first one I read would open a portal into a demon plane — or that the next one was an unbreakable vow to the seven foot tall shadow monster I unwittingly summoned into my bedroom?
He says his name is Malphas, that he’s something called a Sombra demon, and I’m his mate.

WTF!!!!!!!! Who the fuck writes a fucking monster romance and leaves out the fucking SMUT!!!!! Bitch I’m not reading a monster romance for the LoVe sToRy I’m here for the sex and you did not give me the sex!!!!!! Im so mad 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 also this fmc was so annoying “what’s holding me back?” Nothing bitch!! Just get to it there’s is nothing I hate more in monster or alien romances than when the fmc has mOrAls and is like “I can’t have sex with a demon” yes you can! Stop fucking around and just get to it. Fuck this book

Ughhhhhh. Fade-to-Black?! Are you Kidding me? After All of That?
We spent a good 80% of the book having to deal with Shannon continuously denying the mate bond and any feelings she might have toward Mal. We only get some vague oral and hand play that also fades to black with a few sly details here and there.
And then when we finally get to what the entire book is about, the mating, completing the bond so that they can be together forever and Mal won’t get sent to the dungeon. Shannon only makes up her mind as the deadline comes due, and then all we get is a few words here and then Fade-To-Fucking-Black??!
Fuck that nonsense.
I’m so disappointed right now.
The whole freaking book was about that one moment and we don’t even get to be apart of it? What the fuck kind of nonsense is that shit?!
I feel very frustrated right now. If you couldn’t tell.
I need smut, and I need it immediately.
Excuse me while I go cleanse my palate.

You can’t be an ass nugget about having a fated demon mate WHEN YOU ARE THE GODDAMN PERSON WHO SUMMONED HIM. The MFC was so dumb and rude to her demon, who was nothing but loving to her. Someone should have bitch slapped the hell out of her - she didn’t deserve all the good 🔥.

This was a funny and lighthearted monster romance. I picked it up after reading the premise on TikTok, which had me giggling, so I knew I had to read it.
Some reviewers say that the book is fade to black, and I came into the book not really caring (I love books all over the spectrum of smexiness). That said, I can understand why people were a little annoyed. The book is very graphic with the smexy stuff that they do, but when it comes time to cementing their mating bond and declaring their love, it’s fade to black. That was an odd choice for an otherwise spicy book.
The reason for my lower rating is because the heroine was a tad disappointing. She accidentally summons the demon, and I would have preferred she be afraid of him, or maybe not believe that he’s her mate for longer. Her rationale for not wanting to be with him wasn’t very logical, and it was kind of mean. He was immediately devoted to her and incredibly sweet, and she was having none of that. I would have preferred for the external obstacles to have been a bigger deal instead of the entire book being about her not wanting to accept that he’s her mate without better reasoning for it.
All in all, it’s a fun and funny book that’s very light (Despite the spookiness of the cover).

The heroine was dumb. Pretty much end of story.
“Let’s play with witchcraft and then when a huge demon steps through the portal and proclaims I’m his mate I’m not going to take any responsibility of my actions”.
Hero was one of those nice pretty laid back dudes that pretty much got the short end of the stick as a mate. Seriously. She uses him. Like she knows he’s gonna do whatever she asks, so she takes advantage of that. Then she is all wishy-washy, but still using him to get off. Definitely meh. Plus, I obviously did not like the heroine, totally rubbed me the wrong way.

I didn't hate this story, but I can certainly see why someone would.
Shannon is very ditzy. Her personality belongs to someone both annoying and illogical. In truth, I don't know or understand her reasoning for any of the thoughts or ideas she has. She's the type of character that when confronted with a celebrity, will say, "No, that's not a celebrity," and then keep repeating that even after being shown every piece of evidence that demonstrates the identity of the celebrity. You can imagine how she was with a demon.
Alongside that, it felt as if there was a very heavy imbalance between her and Malphas. Malphas is picture perfect, and what I think a lot of people dream of having. The issue with his perfection, however, is that it highlights how not great Shannon is. I'm pretty sure the author was going for an opposites attract type of vibe, but I don't think it hit the mark she was aiming for.
Furthermore, the writing for this story in my own opinion, is very distinct and it can be seen as odd. I don't necessarily know how to describe it, but here's a quote that I felt demonstrates what I'm talking about:
"He tried to say something to me again, and I nodded, shot him a thumbs up, and cheerily told him to hold his horses, that I was working on getting him back to Hell as soon as possible."
I don't know, but the story read as quirky, and possibly humourous. It's not a type of writing that I personally enjoy, and I don't know a lot of people who do like it, but if you enjoy the type of writng where it seems someone is talking to an invisible audience, maybe you'll like this.
All in all, I've read way worse, and this book doesn't even begin to touch that pool of trash. It's edited rather well, it's kind of cute, and if you want a devoted male who is all about his lady, then you will get that here. If you want logical characters, and a decent opposites attract story, then I wouldn't pick this book up.

I found this book through a Tiktok video (ignoring the fact that the reference might become outdated and make no sense in a couple of months or a year if you're in the US). You know the one where the author baits you with a couple sides of the book text? Yeah, well, like a mosquito to soft, smooth skin, I bit hard.
Did I enjoy the read? I guess?. Is monster romances for me? That's going to be a no.
But if it's your thing, you should give this book a chance. I enjoyed the writing. It's got a light, fluffy feeling to it. It also has:
•a cupcake golden retriever MMC-Who just wants to please his mate.
•it's part of a series of standalone, but you don't have to read the other books. The second book goes more in depth on the history of a secondary couple, but this book answers the basic questions.
There is a small loose end that's introduced in the last pages of this book, but it can be answered by reading the book description of the third book.
•In terms of spice, I'm giving it a 🌶/5 - Although I get the sense that the other books are spicier if that's important to you.

This was silly, fluffy, fun. Which was honestly all I was looking for from it. I wasn't expecting anything deep or meaningful. Granted, it wasn't anywhere near as spicy as I'd anticipated, mid-heat at best. And I did think it slipped over into the ridiculous on occasion. But Mal was super sweet (no alpha-ahole here), I like Shannon well enough, and the world/over-arching plot seems interesting. I'd read another in the series.

Language barrier ensues and all the while Shannon is trying to send Malphas back, he can't stop thinking about how adorable his mate is and her mating rituals. Insta-love on Mal's part and he's not afraid to show his devotion and adoration to Shannon. His entire life's purpose has shifted now that he's found her. He's over 1,000 years old and as a part of the Sombra culture, has not touched or even shown himself to another demon, waiting for his mate all this time. I think I got a toothache from how sweet Mal was. Not much in terms of plot here, it's mostly Shannon trying to get Mal back to Sombra but then can't help falling in love with him along the way. Low risk/low drama. Just an all around good time. Spice isn't very detailed and each scene was on the shorter side, but Mal was dedicated to Shannon's pleasure. A very cute and sweet palate cleanser!

Geez it took me long to read this lol I blame school.
But I rate books fully based on vibes that’s why I cannot recommend books to anyone. This story was to cute you guys, a lot of ppl don’t like the main character but I thought she was funny. I guess it depends on what types of people you like lol. Anyways this is a sweet monster romance story that I think is a good start for anyone who wants to read a monster romance, it’s not crazy spicy and it’s really adorable and not incredibly long unlike something else pfft that was to cringy. I would recommend to anyone wanted to get into reading more monster romance I mean you can also do what I did was read Ice planet barbarians before other monster romances whoopsies. But those books are to die for literally.

Ultimately, I just got bored with this. I enjoyed the concept, but the inner monologue of both main characters became repetitive. There were some moments I liked and scenes that made me laugh, but they were too few and far between.

This was a fun short little read.
The characters were probably the best part for me - Mal was a sweet bb - love him sm. Peak golden retriever vibes FOR SURE. And Shannon had some pretty funny quirks to her.
The spice was okay but surprisingly a little lacking! I was def expecting more spice for sure but the bit we got was okay ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The writing I found was a little clunky in spots which took me away from it a bit but the plot and stuff was pretty decent so not a terrible experience overall.
This was a fun short little read.
