About the author

Mark Waid is an American comic book writer widely known for shaping modern superhero storytelling through influential runs on major characters at both DC Comics and Marvel Comics. Raised in Alabama, he developed an early fascination with comic books, particularly classic stories featuring the Legion of Super-Heroes, whose imaginative scope and sense of legacy would later inform his own writing. He first entered the comics industry during the mid 1980s as an editor and writer for the fan magazine Amazing Heroes, before publishing his first professional comic story in Action Comics. Soon afterward he joined DC Comics as an editor, contributing to numerous titles and helping shape projects across the company. After leaving editorial work to focus on writing, Waid gained widespread recognition with his long run on The Flash, where he expanded the mythology of the character and co-created the youthful speedster Impulse. His reputation grew further with the celebrated graphic novel Kingdom Come, created with artist Alex Ross, which imagined a future DC Universe shaped by generational conflict among superheroes. Over the years he has written many prominent series, including Captain America, Fantastic Four, Daredevil, and Superman: Birthright, bringing a balance of optimism, character depth, and respect for comic book history to each project. Waid has also collaborated with notable artists and writers on major ensemble titles such as Justice League and Avengers, while contributing ideas that helped clarify complex continuity within shared superhero universes. Beyond mainstream superhero work, he has supported creator owned projects and experimental publishing models, including the acclaimed series Irredeemable and Incorruptible, which explored moral ambiguity within the superhero genre. He later took on editorial leadership roles at Boom Studios, guiding creative direction while continuing to write extensively. In subsequent years he expanded his involvement in publishing and digital storytelling, helping launch online comics initiatives and advocating for new distribution methods for creators. His work has earned numerous industry awards, including Eisner and Harvey honors, reflecting both critical acclaim and enduring popularity among readers. Throughout his career Waid has remained a passionate student of comic book history, drawing on decades of storytelling tradition while continually encouraging innovation within the medium. His influence extends across generations of readers and creators, and his stories continue to shape the evolving language of superhero comics around the world today through enduring characters imaginative narratives and thoughtful reinventions of familiar myths within popular culture and modern graphic storytelling traditions.

Still don’t know how I feel about the main villain of this arc, but at least the writing and art are still pretty solid across the board. There’s some pretty funny moments in here too that got a laugh out of me. Just a really fun Bat/Supes team-up book. I’ve really enjoyed the last two runs this title has had.

No primeiro número desta revista eu me decepcionei bastante com o enredo e com o roteiro de Mark Waid. Também me decepcionei com a história que a Panini Comics Brasil resolveu colocar como acompanhante da história principal, um encontro entre o Batman e o Questão. Mas este número está beeeem melhor, mais interessante, com mais elementos sendo colocados na história, um encontro dos Melhores do Mundo com a Patrulha do Destino, a participação da Supergirl e uma lenda ancestral e mitológica chinesa. Esse sim é o Mark Waid que eu conheço e aprendi a respeitar. Completa a edição uma história muito legal feita por artífices indianos, de um encontro entre Batman e o Adão Negro, na época em que o Shazam Negro exigiu a soberania do Khandaq. Assim, claro, temos um combate entre dois ditadores fascistas, cada um fascistando de um jeito que parece heroico para si mesmo e para seus pares: o Batman e o Adão Negro. Quando percebem que tem ideologias semelhantes e que só vão se destruir um ao outros, a briga encerra. Mas, claro, com aquele ranço machista de não voltar atrás próprio dos dois.

A história de melhores do mundo está andando muito bemm, eu queria mais contexto mas só de saber que o robin é o dick já sei que se trata de passado e o mesmo para a história de urban legends não sei o contexto do arco que teve uma história depois mas mesmo meio perdido nó contexto me diverti muito e muito bem ilustrado

I really enjoyed the first issue so I’m bumping this a little ahead of Starblazer. Please forgive.

“The Devil Nezha Chapter Two: The Devil Himself” starts with Dr. Caulder of the Doom Patrol operating on Superman. Elastic Girl, Batman and Robin are watching nervously.

The red Kryptonite in Superman’s blood is working too fast. He’s got minutes to live. Maybe Negative Man’s radioactive ghost can enter Superman’s body and change the the K-particles into something harmless. Maybe.

”Is Batman smiling?”
”It happens.”
”And you accuse us of looking spooky.”

Later Niles Caulder tells Superman, Batman and Robin the story of a magic sword and how the Devil Nezha (immortal world conqueror) came to be and how he was stopped and imprisoned.

But that he now may be free and using the heroes enemies to come after them. All of them. Caulder shows that Flash, Wonder Woman and others have been attacked. Batman asks:

”Wait. You spy on heroes?. As a matter of routine?”

Superman calls in Supergirl to help Robin research this how Nezha was first defeated.

Superman and Batman head to Fawcett in Philadelphia. They defeat Felix Faust (unfortunately by super-whistling which is lame. Even freeze-breathing would be better).

Supergirl flies Robin through the time barrier. They argue. Supergirl follows the magic swords ‘tachyon trail’ back through history (really? A Thomas Guide would’ve worked too).

They get to the five heroes in ancient china who first defeated Nezha and since they have Nezha’s sword, they think Supergirl and Robin are working with them.

Fantastic art from Dan Mora, great dialog from Mark Waid. Despite the super-shenanigans I really enjoyed this issue. 4 stars

Una locura que funcione tan, pero TAN bien una premisa y dinámica de cómic tan hiperconocida y de consumo fácil y directo. Pero la experiencia de Waid y el talentazo visual de Mora van totalmente de la mano para que a la hora de lanzarnos la amenaza más X posible, siga devorando con sumo gusto cada viñeta y línea de diálogo. Tampoco creo que esta cabecera se encasille tan rápido y ya han dejado claro en dos números que el tienen el Universo DC a su disposición para que esta nueva era de los Mejores del Mundo alcance un notable éxito en el panorama comiquero DCita actual.

Issue #1's cliffhanger was so exciting with an emergency surgery performed by the Doom patrol.

Well issue #2 continues on mid surgery before Supergirl shows up and Robin and her have some icy couple-esque argument. I have no idea what this is referencing to but found it very entertaining.

Superman and Batman fight a wizard and ultimately everything goes to hell.

Yup this is an entertaining series and I'm glad its on my pull list!

A little busy

Not as simple as the introductory issue, this has a lot going on with lots of new characters. Dare I say it feels a little overstuffed. But all the balls seem to be rolling and this reads at a fast pace.

I'd forgotten that the Doom Patrol appeared in World's Finest and circled back to it. Love how they point out the creepiness of the mansion and Batman's smile when he sees Superman pull through. Also how Batman and Caulder are competitive at looking the smartest.
