Heck yes, this could have been easily a creepy read if it isn’t labelled as a romantic novella.
Because they are the voices in their heads and could communicate through that. I know. It isn’t that romantic if you think about it. Unless you pick up and read the book!
It turns out to be cute. Somehow stinking cute at times but also steamy at one point.
Enjoyed what it offers. Cute and not creepy.
If you are looking for a short romance, this is the new one you should pick up!

This was so cute omg!!
Two people that see each other from their office windows develop telepathy for no reason.
They just start hearing each other’s voices and slowly fall in love. But they don’t know who they are at first.
Their character development was written so well. And omg the romance!!
Beau is such a blueprint boyfriend material😫
I’m only reducing one star because it’s a novella so I needed more. And also because since it’s short already I felt like too much time was given to the side characters.
I want my couple to shine brighter ok I’m greedy😭

3.5 stars! This is sooo cute! I swear, I loved the characters and the connection that they had. I’m so glad I continued this series even if the first two books didn’t deliver.

A Missing Connection by Dani McLean is a fast read with plenty of rom-com shenanigans.
When Beau and April start to hear each other’s voices in their heads, they quickly form a friendly relationship with flirtation, encouragement, and anonymity. Unsure of who the other is, they agree to keep it “casual”.
Now, from the author’s note in the beginning, I know magical things happen in this town, but Beau and April accepted they could suddenly hear each other WAY too fast. Literally after one sentence they’ve accepted it and started reading each other. I was shocked.
The banter between the characters seemed to waver between funny and forced. Both characters had issues with their parents that seemed to be a driving force for their connection. The conflicts did end up feeling a bit shallow, but I think it’s just because the novella didn’t have time to flesh out the introduced ideas.
Overall, the story was cute. I really liked the concept of them communicating with each other through their connection, and it was easy to accept it happened because that’s just how it goes.

I really liked this book. It was diferent with the whole psychic connection thing but I really liked that. April was such a good person a family woman, she was genuine and was afraid to put herself out there, but then she realized she didn't have to be afraid of him, he would be there for her no matter what. Beau was so sweet, I loved him, he was trying to be the person he thought his father wanted and the person he wanted to be. He found that courage in her, she gave him the strength to be himself and that's so important. They made a beautiful and just really good couple, I loved them

A unique concept that was impeccably executed, A Missing Connection proved to be an absolutely addicting novella.
Dani’s writing has grown exponentially since Midnight Repeated. The way she built these characters and the tension between them, without having them meet until the final pages, was masterful. I was physically unable to stop reading.

Beau is about to become the CEO of his father’s company –one of the most influential companies in all of Chance– and he’s dreading every second. He feels like he’s drowning in expectations and commitments that he never once agreed to, but have become his duty all the same. April loves her job more than she will ever love anyone, and for her that’s a fact. She’d tried to do the romance thing, the living with a man thing, the sitting down and talking about the whole “should we get married and have kids” thing… And it went so, so wrong. It’s just not for her. So instead she works, and she loves it.
But when one day Beau gets home after a long day to hear April’s voice inside his apartment -except not really because she’s not there and they can’t see each other- they both start to realize that maybe they’re not crazy, or hallucinating. Maybe there is someone real at the other end of their connection. A connection that, although uncalled for, keeps them both from their lonely, career focused lives. Separately, but together, they decide to not meet up or say each other’s last names, both refusing to put expectations or pressure into what this connection may mean.
I really enjoyed this novella. I felt like it was long enough to really get a sense of who the characters were individually, but not too long to feel like the meet up was dragged on much. Also, the fact that they fell in love without ever physically knowing what the other looks like is so cute. It feels very instalove-y, but I’m a big instalove fan, so there’s no complaints there.
Overall, I would definitely recommend picking up this lovely novella if you’re looking for a fluffy romance with a hint of spice, and a mind-bending meet cute.

Мила історія про двох людей, які зненацька почали чути голос один одного в своїй голові.
Все занадто просто, легко і без драми. Якщо не шукати логіку, то можна цілком насолодитися читанням і гарно провести час.
Але в мене лишилося багато питань на які я не отримала відповідей. Чому герої почали чути голоса один одного, чи припинилося це після того як вони зустрілися? Хотілося більше деталей. А так залишилося відчуття незавершеності.

This book really drew me in! Honestly, I have no idea that this is the third novel in the series, but that didn't change how I understood the plot. It could stand alone and be read.
Apparently, magical things took place in the city where the MCs reside, which explains why they didn't find it strange that they can instantly communicate with one another through their minds. Since they can't sense minds and must speak to communicate with one another, their mind-talking is quite unusual. and sure, you must approach it with an inquisitive mind.
This book's premise and theme appeal to me greatly. It was brief, but not so brief that you couldn't really sense the connection between the two. Although the characters may not always be fully developed and the plot may not always be life-altering, I'll still give it a pass as it was entertaining and had a clever concept.
Between the two characters, there was still a lot of chemistry. It's also adorable that they fell in love despite never having seen each other in person. Since I'm not a big fan of the instalove cliché, it doesn't feel overdone, but it does have a very instalove vibe to it.
There is also spice, which was superbly executed. I must admit that the piquant portions caught me off guard. They certainly came as a surprise to me, but I was glad to have them since they added to the plot beautifully. I can read it perfectly well, so it's fine.
Overall, if you're looking for a sweet relationship with a dash of spice and a thought meet charming, I would certainly suggest picking up this lovely novella. I'll certainly check out the earlier series!

assim, eu gostei. achei bonzinho, mas não sei, achei tudo meio enrolado pra depois ser tudo extremamente corrido, com eles se encontrando só no último capítulo (?) não é um conto ruim, mas de longe não me deixou realmente interessada.
gostei muito da april e amei como o beau foi um príncipe do começo ao fim, tendo seus pontos fortes e fracos, admitindo ser muito mais emotivo do que deveria, apaixonando-se pela april a cada pequena conversa que eles tinham pelas mentes.

I understand the conflicting reviews, but it’s a STORY - it doesn’t have to be realistic. And it definitely isn’t, but that’s the fun of it. Sometimes you just want a quick read that will make you smile, and this is it!
Beau & April were able to connect on a completely different level, since they were only communicating telepathically and hadn’t met in person. I love the show Love is Blind & it definitely gave those vibes!
The author explains the magic in her note but would also have been nice to have it has part of the story.
They don’t even mention how it’s normal to have weird things happen in the town, and do accept quite quickly that they can talk to each other.
Another question I had - why would they hear each other sometimes and not others?

this was such a sweet novella, oh my god. I nearly felt like crying by the end. I love that they were the voices in each others head and bonded before ever meeting, its definitely not a realistic concept but it worked so well. although this was a short story, the pacing was perfect. I loved that they were so different but the same in the end. I highly recommend this book. it's so good. dani is an amazing author and i will be reading more from her. This was short and sweet. I liked the note in the foreward that was basically, hey, don't ask why things happen, just go with it. It set the scene for the rest of the book.
I unfortunately have not read the rest of the series even though they're on my list. We have two very lonely people Beau and April who somehow develop a telepathic link between each other to share things. They haven't met in real life and vow not to until they've handled a few things.
I was shocked, SHOCKED, at how hot one of their spicy scenes was since their scenes after they met in real life was fade to black. Surprise spice indeed. I enjoyed this one very much. They both had family issues to handle before they were ready for a relationship and when it was time, they were both ready to roll. I was pleasantly surprised at how nicely they fit together.

The story takes off when Beau and April suddenly, out of nowhere, start to hear each other's voices in their heads. Reading each other's minds without an explanation whatsoever and oddly adapting very fast to the situation. They start to have conversations in their heads and building a relationship.
Beau find himself in the perfect situation since he's always wanted to be with someone who's not with him for his money or status. So, he gets to know April without that doubt and pressure hanging over him. They mind speak for the short duration of the book. They meet, "I love you's" get exchanged and they live happily ever after.
An interesting concept but very bad execution. It left much to be desired.
Neither of them questioned their sanity when they started to hear voices. They fell in love way too fast. I was left feeling lackluster and uninterested throughout the whole thing.

April is quirky and shy; focused on her career in data analysis. She knows that she's lonely, but after being burnt by her last boyfriend, she doesn't want to open her heart up again.
Beau is the son of the CEO of a billion dollar company with the weight of the world on his shoulders. He craves what most people take for granted; a loving family and a partner to share life with.
One day, as if by fate, they realise that at random times they can hear when the other talks aloud. Thus starts a deep and intimate relationship with the only identifying information shared being their first names. With no knowledge of the others appearance, will truly knowing each other's hearts first lead to the love they've been looking for?
I really enjoyed this short story and found the concept and the way it was handled really interesting. To hear the spoken word rather than reading thoughts seemed more novel and definitely lead to some funny situations. I also like the fact that every word spoken was intentional rather than a thought that might slip in unwanted.
Both April and Beau's personalities were endearing in their own ways. I think when you're exposed to the raw truth of people's thoughts and emotions, it's impossible not to root for them and want them to succeed. I really enjoyed the journey that we got to take with both characters as they helped each other grow into the people they wanted to be.

This novella was absolutely adorable to read. I did receive this as an ARC from NetGalley, of which, I am so thankful. However, what I really loved about this book is the authors use of description. When working on a short story or novella, it’s difficult to manage a fully formed plot, character development, and also set a tone that allows readers to see the full story. Dani McLean does a great job at all of this. Are some parts cliche and maybe a little overused in books in general? Maybe, but that’s kind of why I liked it so much. It took all the well known themes and ideas - from their eyes being the most attractive parts of them to Beau’s relationship with his dad - and added twists that made them unique. I’m really excited to see what else McLean releases in the future!

Beau is an heir, and April is a data science genius. But that’s not all folks. Oh no, that’s not all! They’re in each other’s heads. Literally. And it is SO fun! Beau has known his future from the day he was born. And while he attempted to ignore it and avoid it for as long as he could, the future has come knocking. April is dealing with her own future, though it’s her own. (Even with her mom’s sweet meddling.) I loved that I was interested in April without truly getting to know her. I’m pretty sure I was under the same trance Beau was. I think in dual POVs, it makes all the difference how much you like a character in both of the point of views. While I loved the single POV in the first two books of the series, I really enjoyed getting to spend time with Beau AND April. There were also little things about them that stood out to me because I saw pieces of me in them. Like April twisting her rings, which she wears on every finger. And the way music overtakes Beau’s body like mine. Their friendly, kind, comfortable, funny banter had me smiling like an idiot the entire time! And I absolutely LOVED that Beau was very in tune with his emotions, and not afraid to share them! Dani has created such a fun setting! She took a chance (no pun intended) to write a series outside of the romance norms, and has done a beautiful job writing it! Even being so different, especially from my usual choices, I have loved exploring this series. And I can’t wait for more!

And the way music overtakes Beau’s body like mine. Their friendly, kind, comfortable, funny banter had me smiling like an idiot the entire time! And I absolutely LOVED that Beau was very in tune with his emotions, and not afraid to share them! Dani has created such a fun setting! She took a chance (no pun intended) to write a series outside of the romance norms, and has done a beautiful job writing it! Even being so different, especially from my usual choices, I have loved exploring this series. And I can’t wait for more!

As an avid fanfic reader in my early days of reading, I love little twists to reality! The idea of telepathy and hearing someone’s voice in your head was super interesting to me.
I liked both the characters as individuals, and empathised with both of their conflicts. Beau struggling with his identity and trying find his own path and April with her anxiety over being vulnerable and accepting love into her life. Although it was a quick read, I thought both characters were developed well.
I think I needed a little more exploration of their connection, we are told that anything can happen in Chance City which is great, but I wanted to understand it more. I also feel like I struggled to connect to their romance as it leans a little more to insta love which isn’t usually my thing - however it is a novella which means things do happen at a fast pace.
Overall, I enjoyed this book so thank you to NetGalley Co-op for sending me an ARC!

I didn’t read the other books but it didn’t affect my understanding of this story. It’s a short, cute romcom. Honestly if it were any longer I might have to lower the rating because it would be dragging. Basically, in the city the MCs live in, magical stuff happens so that explains why they didn’t find anything weird about how they can suddenly talk to each other through their minds. Their mind talking is quite unique as they can’t read minds and they have to actually speak to talk to the other. It’s kind of talking on the phone but without phones and you can’t hear the environment the other is currently at. Overall it’s worth the read and I did enjoy it.

Novellas are often a miss for me because of the lack of depth. Unfortunately this one falls into that category. I felt that some lines were missing to connect certain dots.
I liked the premise though, it's unusual and a novelty for sure.

Cute story, easy to read, and likeable characters.
I feel like this is a 3+⭐, but doesn't reach near 4 because it felt like something was missing and something was rushed (but about the initial rush about the supernatural/magical element the author has warned us). I would have liked more about the "Why does this happen"? I want to have all the deets, but that's me and this was a simple little novella that didn't have to dwell into that.
At the same time, though, I felt like there were elements that were redundant.
It made me smile but not feel enough the emotion I thought I could have with this, because all the elements I love were there.
So, I don't know... I'm not sure about this review.

Pues, en definitiva, me ha gustado más esta historia que las otras dos. Ha sido mas adictiva hacia el final, aunque al principio si leía mas despacio porque me costaba un poco adentrarme. Sin embargo, la he disfrutado mucho.
Beau es un hombre millonario que debe llenar las expectativas de su padre para hacerse cargo de la compañía de su familia, aunque hacerse cargo es lo ultimo que quiere hacer. April es una mujer normal que es adicta al trabajo y que también está bajo la presión de su madre por formar una familia, cosa que ella no quiere. Ambos diferentes, pero que solo quieren hacer lo que quieren sin que sus familias intervengan (a ambos les falta una mejor comunicación con su familia). Una noche, de casualidad comienzan a escuchar las voces del otro y empiezan a formar una relación de amistad, después algo casual, hasta que al final se convierte en amor.
Es una historia corta, sencilla y sin drama de por medio. Puedes sentir que sus sentimientos son un poco rápidos, pero debes tener en cuenta que la historia es muy corta y por lo tanto el desarrollo que encontramos en otras, no esta aquí. Con eso en mente, no encontraras problemas.
Me ha gustado el concepto de que pudieran escuchar sus voces, a veces las escuchaban en situaciones muy divertidas y eso hacia que se me soltara una risilla.

It's a short, simple story with no drama in between. You may feel that their feelings are a little fast, but you must keep in mind that the story is very short and therefore the development that we find in others, is not here. With that in mind, you won't encounter any problems.
I liked the concept that they could hear their voices, sometimes they heard them in very funny situations and that made me laugh.
The book is the third in a series in which you can read each one independently.

This idea had great promise. I was intrigued by the concept of two people connecting telepathically without knowing each other in person. However, the execution didn't meet my expectations. Whilst everything did wrap up within the short page count with a level of satisfaction (ie: the obstacles for both characters were resolved and nothing was left unopened), there was a lot of omitted information for the reader to build upon.
The ability between the main characters to converse with each other wasn't fully explained. It simply happened, and neither character deep-dived into understanding why. There were scenes where they could have a conversation with other people without the voice inside them picking up on it, and then others where they were present. Why? What stopped it the other time but not the next? There was zero rhythm or explanation for how this ability worked, and for me, that's the biggest issue this read fell flat for me. I would have appreciated more from the characters questioning the bond, trying to figure out the parameters between them, and perhaps a discussion with others in Chance City that could lend information as to why. I was so stuck on the lack of information for building this connection that the relationship felt so rushed and moved into intimate conversation way too quickly. Again, being so short in length, time skips were constant and the reader loses out on the building blocks to further understand the closeness and sexual desire between Beau and April.
The author did state in an author's note at the start of the read that the world this book is set in has a certain setup, and that this is a standalone and can be read out of order from the rest in the Movie Magic series, which is why I picked this book up even if it's part of an established world. Upon checking this note again as I write this review, there is a segment stating: "Like your favourite movie rom-coms, the magic and wonder of these stories are never explained. Believe anything you want, as long as it makes you happy." This is a red flag for me as it allows the reader too much freedom, and for those like myself where the world-building and character setup are important to allow the story some sort of progression, it essentially robs you of having the answers that the author should address. It might work for some readers, but this isn't for me. The openness of the story guidelines should be expressed in the synopsis. I appreciated it at the start of the novel, but I didn't connect that it would mean nothing would be explained and I should fill in the gaps myself before I read this, which is my fault.
Had this been a longer book, with better pacing to enable further information and discussion around the why of the telepathic connection of Beau and April, I think I would have enjoyed this cute little story. As is, both characters were decent people, and I enjoyed the banter at times and the light-hearted moments. However, A Missing Connection at the length it's presented as left me missing a connection to the whole story.

April and Beau can talk to each other telepathically. In the beginning of the book, we are reminded that it is a story, and it doesn't have to make sense. In this short novella, we see a sweet story between two workaholics who find each other in an unconventional way. The way they fall for each other is so endearing. April is a data analyst, who works way too much and has never had any luck with love. Beau is the son of one of the most famous men in Chance City, but he has always lacked human connection. You know what they say, opposites attract.
I am not really a fan of novellas in the reading form, but sign me up for a quick audiobook! However, reading this, I was quite surprised at how much I like it. This is definitely a good book to read if you are in a reading slump or just want something quick to read with a hint of spice. I will say, the spicy parts took me by surprise. I was not expecting them at all, but they were definitely welcomed and flowed nicely with the storyline.
With all the pressure that Beau has, he is such an amazing character. But he's almost too perfect. He has a hard family life, but he makes up for it in literally every other aspect. They don't make real men like him—at least not that I've ever met. April, on the other hand, worked hard to get where she was. A Missing Connection by Dani McLean is a fast-read novella with a cute and cheesy Hallmark feel.
Beau and April are two workaholics that don’t have time for love. When they suddenly start hearing each other’s voice in their heads, they begin an anonymous yet effervescent friendship leading to a classic Hallmark romance.
First as I’m sure most readers notice, they accept this mysterious hearing each others voices wayyyyyy too easily. I think it all happened from discovery to acceptance in a span of a few lines. But I understand sometimes you just need to accept the oddness and move on to enjoy the story.
The two characters each have their own issues they’re working through. Beau is taking over his father’s multi-billion dollar company and isn’t happy with his life. April avoids her memories of failed relationships with work, work, and even more work.
Since it is so short at 128 pages, it’s difficult to dive deep into the characters and relationships the reader really wants to know more about. I felt the romance was very surface-level a lot, but it’s also evident the reader isn’t seeing everything.
This novella was short and sweet, with cute and steamy scenes that have you wanting more. McLean did really well with the amount of pages she had to work with.

It’s set in the fictional city of Chance - a place where anything can and does happen. It’s like the setting of a movie that’s equally as real and compelling as it is magical. It’s vibrant and full of life, I adored it.
The magic in this book is that Beau and April start to be able to talk to eachother in their heads. They don’t know how long it will last, and they don’t know why it’s happening. Their connection is instant and I absolutely loved it. Dani makes something magical and impossible seem real.

Both characters are lost, until they find eachother. It was such a lovely way for two soulmates to find eachother - like a gift from the universe!
I saw some reviews saying that the relationship is sexual from the off, which makes me wonder if we were reading the same book. The emotional connection in this novella is established way before the sexual, and it was so wholesome. When there was spice it was great, I loved it.

Later on, they discover that they can speak to each other telepathically but they don't know that the person in their head is the person they met by chance. They decide to get to know each other without revealing who they actually are so that they can establish a real connection.
Beau is the COO of his father's company gearing up to take over as the CEO. He's tired of people getting to know him because of his money or connections and wants to find someone who will want him just Beau. April is a data scientist who loves her job and doesn't have time for a relationship. Both of them are two lonely souls who just want to be loved. We watch them as they get to know each other on a deeply personal level and they fall in love.

Was very excited to receive an arc for this book, the summary of the main love interests being able to have conversation through their minds had me very interested. It was very short and very romcom-y so i had a fun time and if you enjoy fast-passed books, I feel you’ll enjoy this book. I don’t work well with third-person type books but i found myself enjoying this one.
I loved April & Beau, I loved their first meeting, I loved their banter, I loved their mutual understanding for one another and I loved when one of them would randomly start talking to the other while they were with another person, it just made me giggle.
This book works well as a novella but I wish it was a bit longer to develop their story more. It would’ve been great if 100 more pages were added to go further into Beau’s relationship with his dad, April’s relationship with her mom and her issues with relationships and marriage/kids, plus I just wanted more scenes with April and Beau after they met face to face.

I have such a deep appreciation for The Movie Magic Novella series. Dani McLean created something that quite literally forces you to let go of any type of rationality or even reality. You have to live with the fact that there's magic and it's not something explained, just some razzle dazzle for a fun novella.
I adored Beau. He's your billionaire heir who is in line to take over the family business but has a stressful relationship with his father and doesn't want the life mapped out for him. A story like this has no choice but to have characters with strong communication, and I love it. They fell in love with each other before even meeting, and everything else just falls into place after.
I'm really excited for the rest of this series. Definitely something to pick up if you want a short novella, with soulmate type of attraction.

I have such a deep appreciation for The Movie Magic Novella series. Dani McLean created something that quite literally forces you to let go of any type of rationality or even reality. You have to live with the fact that there's magic and it's not something explained, just some razzle dazzle for a fun novella.
