Welcome to Lumpy Gravy

Rate this book
Lumpy Gravy is a syndicated cartoon enjoyed around the country by millions of readers who revel in its fresh edgy, twisted take on life. It was created by John Long on a dare - while juggling dual careers as a serious artist and fireman, he drew his first cartoon to prove to his wife that he had a sense of humor. (He won.)

John's personal philosophy is, "Life is like lumpy gravy. You try to make it smooth, but somehow it always seems to have lumps."

Hooray for lumps!

my elementary favorite. My friend and I used to check this book out and renew it week after week (if other kids hadn't gotten to it first) and sit together and read it. Never got old

My daughter checked out this cartoon book from the local library. It's a bit like The Far Side in its humor, although many of the drawings are elaborate visual puns. Long's cartoons are not as consistently funny as Gary Larson's, and after The Far Side, it's hard for anyone to do this type of humor without being compared (unfavorably) to Larson. But it's a quick read. A good "bathroom book."
