Not an art book and not a biography, this innovative work gives a unique personal dimension to Ursula Hoff (1909-2004), who was a German Jewish scholar who migrated to Melbourne in 1939. As the first individual with professional qualifications in art history and curatorship to be employed in an art gallery or museum in Australia, she made a distinguished contribution to the National Gallery of Victoria. This study chronicles the sweeping changes in the Gallery with the changes in Australian culture in the post-war years.
