I picked up a hardcover copy of this book in a bookstore in my rambling about, and thought it would make a nice coffee table / guest room kind of book, or maybe more. The photography is lovely, with some off the beaten path shots of the various stages of the changing of the leaves in New England.
What I hadn’t noticed until I brought it home was that there is an inscription on the first blank page which kind of broke my heart a little.

On the following page, Katrina (or someone) wrote “Christmas 2010”
All this made me wonder how this book ended up in a used bookshop, although I doubt I’ll ever find out.
There is more to this book than the photography, there is a focus on the wild places during fall in New England and the beauty that is to be found by venturing a little outside the four walls of your home, however humble and comfy it may be. There is plenty to be learned in reading this, as well, the ecological aspects and impacts over the years, but just enough to leave one appreciative and thinking about our role in the care of this planet.
