A beautifully presented retrospective of the American automobile and the culture it produced brings readers on a startling tour of the roadside stops, vintage cars, billboards, interstates, chain restaurants, and oddball sights that have peppered the nation's roads for the past century, highlighted with quotes from people who have traveled the nation's interstates. 50,000 first printing.
The ultimate book about a road trip on Route 66. Legendary cars, diners, locations, reference to songs (Bob Seger, Night Moves) and pictures you will never forget. You don't have to go to all those places having read this book but you'll probably will... this is the American Dream in pictures. The most iconic cars ever build, their exteriors, interiors, from the beginning to the end of the 20th century. From Pony to performance muscle to Testarossa. Must read for every petrol head and driver. A classic and dream come true!
Oddly shaped for a coffee table book - it's more like a concrete block than a book - "Roadside America" is a meal for car lovers, with some separate narrative emphasis on Route 66 and neon roadside drive-in restaurants. Every beautiful car in the book gleams. I was reminded of my love for Packards, Studebakers, old Thunderbirds - all the good stuff. (There's an index.)
If you're a car geek, it's fun. If you're not a car geek, this one is not for you. There's true of most automobile picture books, I suppose.
