Screaming, crying, throwing up! I didn't expect to be so hooked like that. I've been crying for the past two hours. I am in love! I am completely overwhelmed by how deeply this book affected me. 好运时间 / Good Luck Time is definitely a new favorite.
"Jiang Ge’s hands were cold again, and Tao Sizhi thought it was strange. While eating, he wondered under what circumstances Jiang Ge’s hands would become warm."
Tao Sizhi is, without question, one of the sweetest and most lovable characters I have ever encountered. He has high-functioning autism, and his personality is shaped by routines, habits, and precise memory. He remembers events down to exact dates and times, holding onto moments with incredible clarity. He processes emotions and social situations differently from others. But aside from his quirks, he is someone filled with sincerity and love. And Tao Sizhi loves in a way that is straightforward, literal, and deeply genuine. He shows affection through repetition and routine: wanting Jiang Ge to celebrate birthdays with him, remembering promises word for word, and finding happiness in the simplest shared activities. Even something as mundane as drawing game cards together or eating cake becomes meaningful because, because to Tao Sizhi, those moments represent safety, stability, and love. I am on the floor! I love him so much! My sweetest baby.
"Jiang Ge felt that he was utterly helpless against Tao Sizhi. He could only accept that Tao Sizhi’s affection would always ebb and flow like this. Because even if what Tao Sizhi offered wasn’t much, it was already everything he could give, and all of it had been possessed by Jiang Ge."
Jiang Ge, on the other hand, is easy to be misunderstood at first. At first, you may think that Jiang Ge is a scum to Tao Sizhi but you'll soon realize that, Jiang Ge loves Tao Sizhi from the bottom of his heart. There are moments early in the story when his actions toward Tao Sizhi feel careless and unfair, and I found myself feeling frustrated and angry at him more than once. But the story gradually reveals more of his perspective, his guilt, and his internal struggles. Jiang Ge is flawed, impulsive, and sometimes selfish, but he is also deeply attentive to Tao Sizhi in ways that are easy to overlook at first glance. While Tao Sizhi remembers details and moments, Jiang Ge pays more attention to Tao Sizhi himself: his habits, his fears, and the things that make him uncomfortable. He learns how to care for him in small, practical ways, even when he makes mistakes along the way. His love is young and imperfect but it's genuine.
"Jiang Ge hadn’t thought much about what his future would be like, but he felt that from high school to university, even when he joined the workforce after graduation, Tao Shizhi would still remain faithfully by his side."
Tao Sizhi and Jiang Ge is literally the cutest ever. They were children, classmates, roommates, and eventually lovers, growing up alongside each other and forming memories that became the foundation of their bond. What makes their relationship so moving is how ordinary it feels. Their love is expressed through holding hands, sharing food, playing games, and making simple promises about the future. Even their most mundane activities are filled with care and meaning. This is what makes their separation so devastating to me. It is not just the loss of a person, but the loss of the daily rhythm that once defined their lives, especially to Tao Sizhi. Watching Tao Sizhi struggle to understand the world around him, while still holding onto his feelings with unwavering sincerity, was deeply heartbreaking. Tao Sizhi kept on waiting for Jiang Ge, kept on finding Jiang Ge on places they went before, he even went to the subway! But Jiang Ge was nowhere to be found. My eyes are swollen from crying.
"He really wished he was a normal person who could understand the things that normal people flippantly could. If he did, then Jiang Ge wouldn’t have left him."
I actually had to reread from the first chapter up until the flashbacks start just to relish the experience more. Knowing the future made every earlier interaction feel heavier and more meaningful. And loneliness is literally woven into every moment. Even during scenes that appear happy, there is always a quiet sense of fragility beneath the surface. There are moments of waiting, longing, and confusion that feel unbearably real.
"His brother was different from others. He was difficult to take care of, he would possibly need therapy for a lifetime, and he couldn’t live without his family. But he was Tao Siyuan and their parents’ most precious didi."
Anyway, I also want to talk about Tao Sizhi's brother. Tao Siyuan is a bit frustrating yet very understandable. There were moments when I felt genuinely angry at his actions, especially when he forced Tao Sizhi into situations that left him confused and panicked. That particular moment was extremely painful to read, and I strongly felt that he should have handled the situation differently by communicating more openly rather than forcing such a harsh outcome. However, despite my frustration, I cannot deny that Tao Siyuan's actions come from a place of deep love and protectiveness. He carries the heavy responsibility of caring for Tao Sizhi and fears that his younger brother might be hurt or taken advantage of. His decisions are driven by worry and fear, even when they cause pain. He is not simply an obstacle in their relationship but a reflection of the real-world anxieties that surround love, independence, and vulnerability.
"Point 28 - Tao Sizhi (Mingde High School, senior year, STEM stream) is good at waiting for people. If Jiang Ge is the type to always be late, then it’d still be better for him to remain in our city."
Despite its flaws and the things I personally wished had been included, this novel delivered an emotional experience that felt incredibly powerful. I particularly wished that there had been a clearer depiction of the conversation between both families regarding Tao Sizhi and Jiang Ge's relationship, as that moment felt important and deserved more attention. However, the extras hinted that things eventually worked out, which brought a sense of comfort after such an emotionally intense journey.
"Sitting next to Jiang Ge, Tao Sizhi quietly ate half the cake. Just like the plot of a sci-fi movie, a good-natured extraterrestrial visitor would eventually find an Earthling who’d become his place of belonging. The Vulcans found theirs, and Tao Sizhi found his."
This is, admittedly, a very biased rating, but to me, this novel is a solid five-star read. I am completely in love with this story and the characters within it. Tao Sizhi and Jiang Ge are truly one of the cutest yet most heartbreaking couples I have encountered. And by the end of the novel, I was left feeling hurt, comforted, and deeply moved all at once (I binged this book in just one sitting). I just know I will come back to this book again and again, thinking about it for a very long time.

English title: Good Luck Time by Ka Bi Qiu
Rarely we see a protagonist that has an autism in danmei. It’s so refreshing to read. I’m no expert on the subject, but I think it’s portrayed well.
It’s a slow paced, slice-of-life kind of story about two roommates, going back and forth from the present to the past. It’s sweet and heartbreaking at the same time. The knife is real, but don’t worry, it’s HEA.

ahhhh i don’t know how to feel about good luck time :/ it was good! don’t get me wrong, i’m very excited to read more novels by Ka Bi Qiu i just had trouble staying interested in the plot toward the end
the slice of life genre will always be a fav of mine and this novel was a slice of life as slice of life can get. tao sizhi’s brother, though, irritated me so bad that it kind of eclipsed my enjoyment at times
the romance between tao sizhi and jiang ge was the sweetest, so that made up for it on occasion.
there was also some knives & angst to this danmei even though the chapter length is on the shorter side. while there were a few things that i didn’t care for i’m still glad that i gave this a chance!!!! it was definitely worth the read and the translators did an amazing job too

MC adalah seorang autis dengan kemampuan fungsional tinggi. Dia mampu membuat penilaian dan keputusannya sendiri, dan ML bukanlah seorang autis yang mengambil kesempatan dari orang autis. Saya hanya menyampaikan ini agar orang-orang tidak langsung mengambil kesimpulan.
MC tahu apa yang dia lakukan dan setiap langkah dalam hubungan mereka dimulai olehnya atau dia menyatakan keinginan untuk melanjutkannya. ML awalnya tidak baik kepada MC karena perilaku MC membuatnya kesal dan dia tidak bisa masuk ke dalam lingkaran pertemanan. Namun, seiring berjalannya waktu dan interaksi mereka, ML mulai memahami reaksinya Dia menggemaskan dan dia tampak seperti seseorang yang sangat berarti baginya, meskipun terkadang masih membuat frustrasi saat berbicara dengannya. Dia sangat sabar dengan MC. Aku bisa bersimpati dengan titik balik di tengah cerita dan kisah itu terasa begitu getir dan menyentuh.
Saya suka pertanyaan-pertanyaan yang diajukan kepada ML tentang kondisi MC. Hati saya sangat sakit untuk MC dan ML karena mereka berdua saling mencintai dan jatuh cinta. Tetapi autisme MC memberi mereka begitu banyak rintangan sehingga menyakitkan. Sepanjang tahun, Anda melihat bagaimana MC mengatasi banyak rintangan hanya untuk menjadi lebih seperti orang normal dan itu juga membuat hati saya hancur. ML juga hanya ingin mencintainya, meskipun dia berpikir MC tidak dapat membedakan antara berbagai jenis cinta.

It was cute. I'm not sure how accurate the depiction of autism was but I enjoyed the story.
Summary: The MC is an autistic young adult who has gotten a job and has moved into the work dorms when at his job, he encounters the ML who he has known before and now feels uncomfortable around. The ML persistently tries to get close to him again and we find out through flashbacks what their high school year together was like and what led to the current situation.

It's ok, the angst is good and the portrayal of autism is ok. Don't love the dynamics nor the depth it is handled with. I keep trying to like this author's writing. While her writing is good, I can't seem to like her character nor the stories they tell. Will keep on looking though.

The plot is simple, no plot twists, no love triangles, just a strange, down-to-earth love story between an autistic young man trying to figure out how to live his best life despite his disability, and his maladjusted fellow student who doesn't like it when someone steals his hand to draw cards.

What a lovely book. I really like Ka Bi Qiu books, they never disappoint. It's sweet to see Tao Shizhi, a high-function autistic, and Jiang Ge, a rich 2nd generation master, fall in love.
